I agree. Had he not suffered a variety of horrible injuries, his career would have been longer and he might have been a shoo in. For him to get such little consideration is weird. Kerry Wood falling off after one ballot is not weird. He was never going to get in. But again, injuries ruining what could have been a great career. He only had the few awesome years though. To his credit he stuck around a long time doing what he could after he wasn't able to be a starting pitcher any more.
Santana was a very good pitcher but I don't think he's a HOFer, his career was just too short unfortunately. He's 100 all time in WAR on BR site and his stats are similar to those of Scherzer, Wainwright, Price, Cliff Lee, Jon Lester, Cole Hamels, Ron Guidry, Jim Maloney, Josh Beckett and Roy Oswalt. Again very good pitcher but yeah no issue with him falling off the ballot after a year. I have an issue with Hoffman being in the HOF, without the save stat there's no way he's in and there's a pretty good argument to be made that Billy Wagner was the better RPer, again if you take away the save stat.
Even though they suck, I think I'll always root against the Braves, after they bullied the rest of the NL for so long.
Woah! You should be pretty happy about this: Report: Cubs agree to 6-year, $126M deal with Darvish https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1483651 https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1483651
Yeah, thats a really reasonable contract for Darvish. Gives the Cubs a rotation of Lester/Darvish/Quintana/Hendricks/Chatwood, and pushes Montgomery to the pen as the long man. Yu will likely be wearing down by the end of the deal (he turns 32 this season), but the window is now, so reinforcing the rotation was huge. And aside from a couple of middle relievers, the entire club is signed/under control through at least 2020. And there's payroll room for an attempt at Bryce Harper next Winter too. Cannot wait for the opening series in Miami (sorry Marlins fans)! Now we'll see where Jake Arrieta ends up. He had a terrific run with the Cubs, but the magic is gone, and he's probably not going to get it back. Still, hoping he goes to Minnesota instead of the Brewers.
