A.J. Klein shoots the gap and forces the runner to redirect, Devonte Holloman does a great job keeping square and gets the runner down for a loss. Punt. Collin Klein with more poor throws. He and Seth Doege may be starting today, but they were the worst QBs from the practice week.
Branden Smith had a LOT of trouble getting Chad Bumphis down after the catch on that one throw toward the beginning of the game. Not good for Smith as Bumphis isn't exactly a big strong type.
Rashard Hall has been a rock at Clemson and just quietly gets the job done. Reminds me of Chris Clemons in that regard. ADDED: although Hall is better with the ball in the air.
Chad Bumphis continues to impress. Avoiding drops as he's catching passes on comebacks and the ball is basically in his chest. Where you'd like to see him improve is the catches away from his body because he was dropping a lot this week and couldn't necessarily track the ball in the air. It's a shame because he's VERY fast and built well, and gets open easily.
South Carolina does a great job of coaching up their defensive kids IMO. They flow well to the ball, play aggressively, and are good at trying to create turnovers.
I think all of us have looked at Texas A&M's roster and wondered which player we could imagine Mike Sherman lobbying for the hardest...and I think Christine Michael is that guy, in the mid rounds. A direct replacement for Daniel Thomas who has (finally) fallen out of favor.
I wish Chad could have played with Tyler Russell throwing him the ball and not Chris Relf. Chad's numbers took off this year with Tyler.
I think Chad Bumphis could come off the board as high as the 4th round as teams start looking for SPEED and potential in their prospects.
But Chad Bumphis won't go above Corey Fuller IMO. He's another speed guy but has much less problem catching the football and he's still just learning the position.
Rutgers' helmets look cheap, like they were wrapped in aluminum foil. Not a fan. ..... however I bet their locker room gets outstanding UHF reception.
So unfair for the East receivers who are depending on this audition to help them get noticed in the draft process. Why would the coach start a guy who looked bad in practice ( I'm assuming CK is right)
Look at my boy Bump winning MVP of the Shrine game. Representing Mississippi State and Tupelo!! I got a funny story. I live in Tupelo and did my residency here. So, some of the residents and I got together to play some flag football at the rec fields over by Ballard Park. While we were there, this 11 year old kid comes up and asks if he could play with us. So, we let him. This 11 year old ran us silly. This kid put one of our guys out with a hamstring injury and just overall made us look old out there. I went up to him and told him that I was going to start calling him Chad Bumphis. As I stated, Chad was from Tupelo and was a freshman at MSU at this time. This kid looked at me and said "That's my cousin." That kid is probably a freshman in high school now. I wonder if he ends up playing football.
Wow Devin Taylor was impressive. No QB really stood out to me. Really like Hawthorne's game. Some nice prospects played in the shrine game.
He came on a lot more as the week went on and did a good job re-stabilizing his plummeting draft stock.
I was speaking of Devin Taylor. Though the same could be said for Terry Hawthorne. Hawthorne looked good during the week. Khalid Wooten looked good during the week and followed up with a nice game as well, so I would watch for him to rise.
