that remains to be seen....he did tear up MILB last time too and looked lost when he came up....

I agree though there is just to much here to think he will bust out....if anything if he does start slowly, keep him there.....he will learn more at the MLB level than he could on the farm...

San Diego is stupid for trading him....for the record I wasnt high on Kelly, still am not too.....Rizzo I always knew was a decent player...

Still wish TB would of packaged something to get him. We had plenty of firepower to do so

He was rushed up to the big leagues last year and didn't make adjustments at the MLB level. It happens all the time for young players. Last year Mike Trout had a tough time and now look at him. Not everyone is going to come up and hit right away like Pujols or Ryan Braun. Same goes for pitchers too, check out Roy Halladay's first go round at the MLB level, would anyone have put money on him that he'd be a future HOFer?

The main thing that gives Rizzo hope is he's finally starting to hit LHPs and that's because he changed his approach and swing mechanics a bit, something that the average fan just looking at a box score wouldn't know (I didn't/wouldn't have known either if I didn't read about it). He's also quicker to the ball now, especially the inside pitch which MLB pitchers kept throwing him to get him to jam himself for an easy out.

That's not to say Rizzo is the next Adrian Gonzalez but I certainly don't think he's (insert bad hitting first baseman like a Doug Minetjjejwkwitz) at the plate either.

That's the main problem with us as fans trying to rate prospects, simply because we've never seen 98% of them play either in person or on TV enough. You were never high on Kelly, that's fine to have what opinion but why? Not to pick on you but I'm assuming you wouldn't be able to pick him out of a police line up. You're simply just looking at his stats, which in the minor leagues could be a tricky thing as sometimes the numbers don't tell the whole story, especially if the player is young for the league. I admit I'm guilty of that too, it's natural. That's why I try to read up on the prospects from places like BA, BP, Keith Law instead of some reports from the teams themselves because they're unbiased/biased.

I'm glad they didn't and actually surprised they didn't go after him. I'd love to know the reasons why didn't make a move for him or if they did, why they couldn't get him.

Another complete game 1-hit shutout for Dickey. Career high 13 strikeouts. Ike Davis first career Grand Slam. I love this team.

Serious question if the ASG "counts" and is suppose to "matter" as a fan of a NL team do you really want Melky Cabrera starting that game? Especially over Ryan Braun?

So you would want to play a guy who's been doing well for the past 3 months over a guy who's been one of the best in the league for the past 4 or 5 years? Makes sense. This is exactly why the whole "The ASG counts" thing is a joke.

The quickest Giant EVER to 100 hits.....guys I am playing....

Braun is obviously a better ball player, the ASG is a popularity contest...the reason why Kinsler gets the nod over Cano and Pedoria at 2nd...

he is also about to go on the DL, he pulled up lame last night...

It has more to do with him being a hacker at the plate (18 walks in 298 plate appearances) then anything else. I'm sure if someone like Barry Bonds or Willie Mays went up to the plate with Melky's approach they could have probably had 100 hits by the middle of June too. And like others have pointed out his BABIP is .404, which is completely unsustainable. His career BABIP is .308. In other words, if you got Melky on your fantasy team now might be a good time to trade him because regression is coming and it's going to hit him very very hard.

I think we found out the reason TB rolls ANY scrub out there in the 9th and they become Mariano year in and year out...

be interesting to see how this turns out...

Eh I don't know if its that reason, I mean I'm sure a little pine tar on the ball can give the pitcher a little bit of an advantage in terms of getting a sharper break on the ball but not sure if it's that much that it would turn an average RPer into an above average one. Nor do I think every TB pitcher does that.

I will say though that Joe Maddon is starting to come off as a bit of a baby and a talker. Between his comments about the HBP war with Boston earlier in the year and now this I'm starting to get the feeling that Maddon likes hear himself talk and also likes to read about himself in the papers. Of course none of this has anything to do with his managing job because he's one of the best, if not the best current manager in the game, but he comes off looking bad with his comments. They were just strange and really not sure how you can justify it.

If someone like Bobby Valentine or even Joe Girardi said what Maddon said the media would be having a field day for the next week.

Dont say I didnt help your man-crush...

GM Brian Sabean told ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick that the Giants identified Melky Cabrera and Angel Pagan as trade targets this past offseason because, in spite of their flaws, they’re both impact MLB players. “We're talking about switch-hitters who can hit almost anywhere in the lineup, play all three outfield positions and help you on both sides of the ball. There's a lot to like," Sabean said. Check out Crasnick’s piece for a detailed look at how the Giants scouted and built their new-look outfield.

I wouldn't trade anything of significance for him, I would have "someone" reach out to his agent, and tell him that the Yankees are interested in bringing him back....

I absolutely LOVE how outspoken Joe is. About his own players, and his opponents. He doesn't tend to bite his tongue.

But in this case, I think he's wrong. JP cheated, opposition caught him. I don't have a problem with what Johnson did. I dont have a problem with JP doing it honestly. He did it, was caught. Its part of baseball, much like stealing signs. I understand where Maddon is coming from and I do like him sticking up for his players, even if he is wrong. But, I think he went a little overboard on this one.

I don't have a problem with anything else Maddon has done.

A good manager, well really any manager, should always have their players backs no matter what. Even if it means they're completely wrong in backing them. So that part of it I don't mind. Like you said Maddon went too far and none of his points/reasons/arguments made any sense. It made him come off looking bad, especially the "that's why no one wants to play in Washington" part. It just made him come off looking petty. He just should have said "while it's against the rules, it is part of the game, JP got caught and now we're going to have to deal with whatever happens next but it's not like JP is the only one in baseball who does that", that's it case closed.

I kind of understand where Madden coming from. I think it's wrong that the Nationals basically said that it's okay for them to cheat but not okay for anyone else to.
