Well, I know this guys' draft stock has fallen but: I like Jake Locker, I see some of Jay Cutler's positive traits in his game, along with the negative ones, I happen to like his arm strength and touch and think he would be worth drafting moderately highly, like late 2nd early 3rd. my .02 cents
Cabrani Mixon has some serious off field issues but he can play. I think Cam Newton has terrific talent. He needs a little work with his technique but he's more refined than Tim Tebow with better accuracy and a better arm.
I think Newton def goes in the first round. It could be Oakland. Depends on their coach. I think Al Davis still wants to play Campbell and likes what he brings. It seems like their HC would rather see him as a back-up.
DaQuan Bowers is expected to enter. Senior Bowl invites - Stephen Paea, Prince Amukamara, Adrian Clayborn, Jalil Brown (Colorado), Jimmy Smith (Colorado), Davone House (New Mexico St), Von Miller, Jeremy Bael, Casey Matthews, Shareece Wright USC, Cameron Heyward, Cameron Jordan, Ryan Kerrigan, Phil Taylor (Baylor), Chris O'Dowd', Stanley Havili, Pat Devlin, and Brandon Fusco (Slippery Rock).
Illinois playing right now. Jeff Allen, the left tackle, is a name to watch. Very underrated IMO. He needs polishing but has the tools IMO. Chris Carter of Fresno St. is another late round guy with some upside.
I've seen a lot of people grumbling about drafting another OLB...any names you like there that would match nicely with Miami's D?
Just in general. I was curious as a lot of people have started clamoring for another young OLB prospect.
only scouted one game so far of connecticut so far this year. have a couple on tape that i will start watching over the next few months but OG Zach Hurd looked good to me from the one game i have scouted of theirs so far. He is huge and has decent wheels. might be able to get him with a late round pick
if we want them to play at 260 or so, greg romeus if we want to spend a high draft pick, markus white for a late round draft pick if we want more speed and can live with smaller OLBs then mark herzlich, bruce carter, dontay moch would be possibilities. i suspect they would go with the 260 plus sized LB prospects though
Akeem Ayers will probably fall to about where we're drafting. He's my dark horse 1st round pick right now and could take our front 7 over the top into elite land IMO. I wouldn't mind him for his versatility..... especially considering Crowder's lack of reliability. Then we could effectively blitz from every LB position, no? I would think we'd be vying for the top LB corpse in the NFL with Wake, Dansby, Misi, and Ayers (who can move to OLB if needed). I also think Moses has molded himself into a fine backup. The only thing I'd want is a pure pass-rusher to throw behind Wake..... but I'd rather spend a pick on a guy like Ayers who can play MLB or OLB than spend a pick on a pass rush specialist. I wouldn't mind seeing: 1. MLB/OLB Ayers 3. RB- Kendall Hunter (trade up a bit if needed) 4. WR-Greg Little (purely for value & potential to become a #1) 5. TE/H-Back or Oline depth with Mankins in FA. W/O a 2nd round pick, acquiring Logan would immensely benefit our draft IMO.
Cam Newton is nothing more than a project. He's another glorified running back that will be vaulted up the boards by the media and those who want to see glorified running backs succeed in the NFL. In Gus Malzahn's offense, Cam Newton is not asked to make any complicated reads. I highly doubt that Cam can tell the difference between man and zone. I'd draft him as a tight end high, but as a quarterback, I wouldn't spend anything higher than a mid round pick on him.
I don't think he's worth more than a 3rd at QB either. He's a bust waiting to happen as a 1st b/c IMO there'll be too much pressure on him to succeed early, and it'll destroy him. He needs to be drafted as a 3rd or 4th so there will be less expectations out of the gate to where he'll have time to develop...... but unfortunately that won't happen.
Just a little Arkansas info for you guys. Hearing that Joe Adams will come out and the Greg Childs will come back for his senior year. For anybody who hasn't seen Joe play, he is a heck of a receiver in the Desean Jackson mold. Major attitude problem though and a diva receiver in the making.
Thanks B. Greg Childs was right up there in a 5 man group along with AJ Green, Alshon Jeffrey, Ryan Broyles and Justin Blackmon as the best WR in the nation.
Quite clearly the Mike Vick who's playing lights out now. Keith doesn't like black, mobile QB's who can run. He likes white pocket statues.
Pretty good list there. This senior class is pretty good. I don't see a magic bullet in this draft, I rarely see one in any draft, and so Miami is going to have to find other ways to improve (getting guys back from injury, new offensive coaching staff, free agents like Logan Mankins, etc). Hard to go wrong with Stephen Paea, Prince Amukamara, Adrian Clayborn, Von Miller or Cameron Heyward. I know some here are down oh him but to me Anthony Castonzo might well be the next Jake Long and all you need do is work on his technique a little. The ability is All World, and I don't mean track time or inches and pounds. I think Leonard Hankerson is a fantastic receiver prospect. He's built perfectly for the position. His hands started out very poor but they've been actively improving every year and he's making some difficult catches (like the over the shoulder) look very routine. For being as big as he is, he looks natural working the slot, has a lot of quickness and good body movement. That means you can play him a bunch of different spots and if he becomes a high caliber player, you can move him around to get mismatches like Dallas does with Miles Austin. I wrote about Pat Devlin in the QB thread. I like him a lot. And I think it speaks highly of him that he's the only QB that has been invited to the Senior Bowl thus far, if I'm reading your list right. I think we all love Kendall Hunter, so I won't go on about him. He's another DeAngelo Williams. There should be some really excellent Guard prospects. I say look out for Orlando Franklin, same big man I talked about last year. After that John Moffitt. I actually like Drake Nevis, I know some here do not. I think he brings more to the plate than Brian Price did. That speed off the snap is at times very special and it gives linemen all they can handle. He has the physical makings of a strong and versatile player, but that position takes a while to coach up, unless your name is Ndamukong Suh. Someone is going to just absolutely adore the player they have in Mark Herzlich, 6 months after they pick him. I wanted to keep this discussion about seniors, but Brandon Harris has indicated he's declaring, now that his dad got fired along with Shannon and his entire staff. Top CB prospect is between he and Amukamara, until/unless Patrick Peterson declares. Can't go wrong with any of the above. Lots of good, good players...and that's before we get into the bulk of the juniors (outside of Harris).
BTW , has anyone else noticed you ( your avatar ) bears a striking resemblance to Davy Jones ? and not the one born in Brixton !
Names that I have that are expected to enter the NFL Draft. DeQuan Bowers Ryan Broyles Patrick Peterson Cameron Newton Mark Barron Marcel Dareus Julio Jones Ryan Williams Brandon Harris Will Hill Marquise Mayes (sp?) Dont'a Hightower Mark Ingram Andrew Luck (last I heard) Ryan Mallett Blaine Gabbert Janoris Jenkins AJ Green To repeat from last month: Nate Solder will be at the SR bowl. So will John Moffitt, Gabe Carimi, Lance Kendricks, Titus Young, Austin Pettis, Niles Paul, Noel Devine, Evan Royster and Graig Cooper.
Lot of talent in this draft. I'm still building my list of players that I love but already you have: Anthony Castonzo, Orlando Franklin, John Moffitt, Stephen Paea, Drake Nevis, DaQuan Bowers, Adrian Clayborn, Cameron Heyward, Marcel Dareus, Mark Herzlich, Patrick Peterson, Prince Amukamara, Brandon Harris, Julio Jones, A.J. Green, Justin Blackmon, Leonard Hankerson, Kendall Hunter, Andrew Luck... ...and still going.
You're right. He is not expected to the grade that he wants from the Advisory Committee, from what I understand.
So do we really know that Ryan Williams is coming out? Because if so he's probably legitimately the #1 RB in the draft, and Miami needs a new runner pretty badly, so I would think he'd be square in our radar unless Bill Parcells "No running backs high!!!!!!!" philosophy has Jeff Ireland gripped real strong.
Call me lukewarm on any running back in the first round. Even if the guy is really special (Petersen, Chris Johnson) he doesn't make a difference if you don't have a QB.

You like him more than Ingram? I don't think it's fair for me to say I like Ingram more because I have watched Ingram so many more times.
I like him more than Ingram, yes. Although there's a chance that he could end up as immature as Chris Johnson. But, I'm not sure that's a big deal. I am pretty sure he'd be my #1 runner, over Kendall Hunter, just because I can't be sure Hunter would look the same if he weren't in a highly successful version of the zone-in/zone-out run scheme, not to mention I think Ryan is thicker and actively breaks more tackles with power. They've both got the speed to make big plays. Hunter is more Barry-like, could be another DeAngelo Williams.
Talked with one of Kyle Rudolph's former high school basketball coaches, and he said that Rudolph has submitted paperwork to the advisory board. At this point though, not sure what he's going to do. Former coach expects he'll declare at this point.
