It wanst Fredi's fault that someone couldnt get him a goddamned bullpen for over the past 3 years.
I didnt think he was the best Manager but blame falls more than just him(read: Loria and Samson)

Most of the people here would love a Cuban manager

From MLB.com: Players Shocked By Gonzalez's Dismissal

This is your typical run of the mill article about how the players were glad to play under their former manager, etc etc. But right in the middle of the article comes this:

O RLY? You failed to give him personnel and then fire him anyway? Way to go, Larry. But we all know the real reason why you failed to give him personnel: you had no money with which to pay people who could actually play baseball at a high level.

Therefore, I hereby declare that Jeffrey Loria will no longer be referred to as Jeffrey Loria, but as Bozo the Art Clown.

In all honesty, I feel like the team has been constructed in a deliberate manner by getting as many Hispanic prospects and players as possible so as to appeal to the Hispanic community in Miami. It hasn't really worked. I don't think having a Cuban manager would in itself be a big draw, but Guillen would inject a hell of a lot of life into the team. I'd love to see him handle another Hanley situation. I suspect spiked cleats would be involved.

They need to get rid of the trash in the bullpen to fix this trainwreck. Sanches, Wood... ugh, makes me sick.

Brian Sanches isn't that bad, actually. It's Wood, Veras, Sosa, Buente, Badenhop, and Meyer that made this bullpen so bad.

It reeks of favoritism on Bozo the Art Clown's part. This entire episode stinks, to be quite honest. Yeah, Fredi was going to be a goner, but I view the team's performance as an excuse for Bozo the Art Clown to bring in a buddy more than anything else.

Also, Bobby Valentine is a career .510 manager, while Fredi Gonzalez is a career .497 guy. Not really a big difference, certainly not enough of a disparity to fire one guy less than halfway through the season to replace him with the other.

I also like what Jorge Sedano said this morning, that this is our fourth managerial change in eight years. Who would want to coach for an organization that unstable? It's a career risk.

I wouldn't use manager winning % as an example here as it means little to nothing in terms of determining whether a manager is good or not, so that's probably not the best example to use when comparing Valentine to Gonzalez as a lot has to do with the talent the manager has to work with. I'm not saying anyone can manage and there are definitely some managers better than others but you can put the greatest manager ever with the Royals or Pirates and it wouldn't make a big difference (sure they might finish in 4th place instead of last) while you put the worst manager with the Yankees and the team would still win 90 plus games and make the playoffs. Terry Francona and Joe Torre both had winning % under .500 when they took over the Sox/Yankees and now it's well over .500. Did they become better managers suddenly or did they just get lucky enough to manage teams with actual talent? Personally I do think it's a mixture of both as especially with Francona he has really grown into the job since 2004, but I guess a lot of that comes with job security.

Grady Little was a terrible manager but he had a lot of success with both the Red Sox and Dodgers leading them both to the playoffs, and trust me when I tell you that those teams won dispite him. Another example is Buck Showalter who helped build two franchises (NY and AZ) and spent numerous years managing the bad teams waiting for the players he helped bring in develop and then gets canned a year before both teams end up winning WS titles (in the Yankees case started a dynasty).

A good manager will probably help his team win maybe 5 or 6 extra games a year, while a bad manager will 'help' his team lose 8 to 10. It's really up to the players to perform.

That's... my point. This is a meaningless move. Bozo the Art Clown thinks a manager switch will make up for years of low payroll instantly, because apparently Valentine will be offered a 4 year contract.

    My thoughts?

Yeah, I agree with you. It's all on the owner here. He needs to start spending money and make this team better. Marlin fans should be thanking MLB offices for getting on Loria and forcing him to spend money or they'd probably be talking about dealing Josh Johnson right about now.

Maybe it would be better if Loria just stayed in his owner box or his seat and let the baseball people deal with things.

The MLB front office is the reason why Loria owns the team in the first place. They get no gratitude from me.

False. Marlins were discussing a contract extension with JJ long before the MLB offices stepped in.

While that's true they were talking about a contract extension in November the discussions stopped when the Marlins refused to give Johnson a 4 year deal. The Marlins get hammered by the MLB and player's union on January 12th about them needing to spend more money or they risk violating MLB revenue sharing provisions and suddenly on January 15th they suddenly have a 4 year deal done with Johnson. Seems like it was pretty interesting timing between those two events.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4819982
    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4826840
The Marlins recently came under scrutiny amid concerns from the players' association that they weren't living up to a provision in the basic agreement that requires teams to use revenue-sharing receipts to improve performance on the field.

Although Marlins president David Samson maintained that the team did not violate the basic agreement, the Marlins issued a joint statement earlier this week promising to "work cooperatively" with the union and the commissioner's office in the future.

"In response to our concerns that revenue sharing proceeds have not been used as required, the Marlins have assured the Union and the Commissioner's Office that they plan to use such proceeds to increase player payroll annually as they move toward the opening of their new ballpark,'' said union executive director Michael Weiner.

Oh I agree whole heartedly. I read an article about Japanese baseball years ago, and the conditioning they had to do was insane. Most American stars here couldn't handle it. I remember one instance where plays had to run up hundreds of stairs with their gear just to get to the field.

ESPN's track record isn't great, but it's such a schadenfreude moment that I want it to be true.

It would be just like Bozo the Art Clown to not tell a managerial candidate that he's not getting the job.

Our owner is the Al Davis of MLB without the track record of success.

Bozo the Art Clown addressed the team before tonight's game and told them that Edwin Rodriguez will be the team's manager for the rest of the season. Also, there are reports that Bobby Valentine was not hired because he wanted more autonomy than Bozo the Art Clown was willing to give.

    Al. Davis.

I like that E-Rod had the balls to make multiple pitching moves in the 7th. And it worked.
