A stunning new benchmark in Corvette performance With its 638 horsepower LS9 supercharged V8, ZR1 is capable of 205 mph on the test track 6.2 Liter V8 with Eaton TVS Supercharger and intercooler produces 604 lb.-ft of torque Massive Brembo Carbon Ceramic Brakes I'll take this over the challenger anyday, with 638 HP. one can only imagine what this car will be capable of with just a few mods. http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/zr1/
It's capable of getting you up to the posted speed limit fast enough to let that tear come out as you realize you will never have a need for that much horsepower.
Thats not true.there are plenty of 1/4,1/8 mile tracks where guys/gals can race without the hassles of getting tickets.
challenger??? this car will have lambos and ferraris trembling in fear!!!(at 1/3 the price) but good luck getting one.
Yup...because we all know that no one ever goes faster than the posted speed limit. Spoken like a true non-car lover.
A lot of people who buy this car probably won't even take a professional driving course like they should. Most people don't go 100+ mph, which is half the top speed. And if the wink weren't there, I would take offense to the non-car lover remark.
I know of no tracks like that in my area. That's cool that those places exist, are they oval, round, street, drag courses? Are the people who go their legitimately capable of safely operating their vehicle at the kind of speeds that get hit there? (obviously some will be) I am really asking, like is there anything you have to do to prove you belong there before you get to use the tracks?
I believe he is referring to a typical drag strip by saying 1/8 and 1/4 tracks. And no there is no "proving you belong", they have "Test and Tune" events all the time where you can go and run your car as much as you like for fun.
Just because I can't afford most of them and I tend to think logically i can't love cars? There is a reason I buy all the Gran Turismos and Project Gothams, and plenty of other racing games and it isn't because I hate cars.
Thicken the skin bro...thicken the skin. It was a joke. But to answer your comment, True, most people don't drive 100+ mph, and that's fine. This Corvette isn't FOR "most people". Here's the clincher....you don't drive like that, then hey....DON'T BUY ONE! I regularly get my ride into the 140-150 mph zone when I know it's safe and the roads are clear, so who says that a Vette owner can't nudge that 200 mph bar when the conditions are right? Your first quote: "It's capable of getting you up to the posted speed limit fast enough to let that tear come out as you realize you will never have a need for that much horsepower." is ridiculous. There are people who do have a need for that much horsepower. When I said "spoken like a true non-car lover", I was messing with you, but technically there's some truth there. No person who loves cars would EVER say there's no need for that much horsepower. There are guys in my Mustang club that have almost 200 more horse than that car, and they'll be the first to tell you that they need it...for their own personal satisfaction. Of course there's no practical need for that much, but let's get serious here. Who the hell buys a Vette to be practical? Who buys a musclecar or a Viper or a Lambo to be practical? Plus, like has been said already in this thread....you can take your ride to the local track and see what she does. You don't have to hit the top speed, but if you're taking it to the drags the more horse you have the better. Do me a favor...next time you go to a car show, ask some of the owners if they think there's no need for 600+ horsepower. I'll bet you a week's salary that you don't get too many replies that agree with you.
So was my comment, because no one driving a Vette is going to cry unless the force of the wind forces tears out, or they wreck it. Edit: Pagan, it is very hard ot highlight one part of your comment.
I was gonna do the same thing and tell him to thicken the skin since what you said was obviously a joke...but like you, I felt it was too much work to highlight anything and comment. I am admittedly NOT a car guy. I don't drive too fast ever. In fact, the fastest I have ever gone was 110 going to L.A. in my Toyota Tacoma. The killswitch kicked in and I damn near hit a carcass of a deer. It would have been awful. Anyhoo, I am not a car guy but I like this car, and other powerful cars likes Camaros, Mustangs, and the classic muscle cars.
Personally...I LOVE when that happens. Fighting is to me like cars is to you...and apparently Stitches...
