I like where this is going. I didn't know they even made 45 gallon tanks I thought it went from 38 to 55 (see you do learn something everyday). Anyway I am way too into aquariums and mine has mollies, cory catfish, bubble bellied mollies, guppies, and neons. *quite the community tank* Also I have an outdoor garden pond stocked with fish. Yes I am a nerd.
In truth it could be a 43 or 46 hell I don't exactly remember but 45 stuck in my head. I have two tanks in storage a 35-38 (?) and a 55 tall. I love the 55 but it's a pain to clean. Sounds like a nice community tank you've got going there. Do you let the live bearers just go nuts and survival of the fittest or do you use birthing traps?

Mix and match actually. Since tropical fish are great one day dead the next I keep however many I need alive and then yes the rest I let go their own way.
Some of those fish can form hybrids, swords & platys I believe it is make some awesome looking babies. Are you doing live or plastic grass? If you don't already have it put something that floats near the the top of the tank a lot more of the fry will survive.
