1) online works just fine, just print the tickets. 2) #7 train lets you off in Willets point, less then 2 blocks away from Citifield 3) My philosophy is if the other teams fans arent obnoxious I dont heckle. If they run their mouth then they get heckled. Cant speak for anyone else but thats how I see it. Keep in mind many Met fans are also Jet fans so you'll be amongst some lowlifes. My philosophy at Jet-Dolphin games is to not engage hecklers regardless of how hard they try. If someone wants to talk to me then its rude not to respond. If someone just wants to talk trash thats just going to get me kicked out. Also, I would wear a rain slicker over the jersey incase you get stuff tossed your way.
Thanks Boik, I think we will leave the Jersey at home. Especially after looking at the ticket prices, I don't think we will be sitting in the champagne section.
One thing I will tell you is that I have sat almost everywhere in that stadium and I still like the seats I had for opening day in almost straight away CF the best. There's really no bad seats except for the ones obstructed by the foul polls and the ones in right-center that you cant see below you on balls hit in the gap. Shake shack is as good as it gets for ball park food.
There are rumors going around that Jeff Francoeur is being shopped around and could be traded as soon as this weekend. I honestly haven't checked out the Long Island Ducks or Bridgeport Bluefish rosters but surely the Mets could get something back from them that could be better than Francoeur.
+1. I laughed. And this is part of the genius of Frank Wren. People thought he was stupid for trading Frenchie for a scrub in Ryan Church, inside the division no less. But what he has effectively done is made Francoeur's trade value non-existent. Well, to be fair, Frenchie kinda did that to himself, but still.
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports this morning that the Mets are trying to trade Jeff Francoeur and that they may have a deal done by this weekend. There are no indications as to who may be interested in Francoeur, who was recently shuttled to the bench when Carlos Beltran came back from the DL. Francoeur currently makes $5 million and is arbitration eligible following this season, though he's a pretty obvious non-tender candidate. His value at this point is likely limited to being a bat off the bench against lefties and a defensive replacement.
Eh the trade was a wash really as Church really didn't do much with the Braves and if Francoeur was never dealt he would have been non-tendered in the off season much like Church. I wouldn't say Wren was a genius but at least he realized it was time to cut the cord with Francoeur, even if it was a year too late. Francoeur played alright in his half year with the Mets but they were dumb enough to believe in him and they should have prepared better for him to fall back to his old self again, they already gave him too much playing time this year. I really can't see any MLB making a deal for him outside of Kansas City due to the Atlanta connection. I think I said I thought Francoeur would be out of baseball by 2011 or 2012 and it's looking that way. The guy just never learned to take a pitch. I'll wait until Francoeur is officially off of the Mets roster before I (and I'm sure Phunwin too whereever he is) ask for an apology from Boik, Rocky all of the other Met fans who defended the guy against me.
Yeah, Wren was basically looking to dump Francoeur, with Heyward coming up this year. I think Frenchie's splits against Lefties this year will warrant someone taking a flyer on him. He could be a decent bench guy for someone to platoon against LHP.
I had no problem with him on the Mets, he is streaky but a great clubhouse guy and great defensively. In fact, I'm a bit worried about getting rid of him for the clubhouse reason, we are a smoking time bomb in that clubhouse.
Yeah historically Francoeur has been decent against LHP and he does have some defensively value. Either way he's probably going to spend some part of next year in the minors because I can't see any team tendering him a MLB contract and going through arbitration with him and risk having to pay a 4th OFer $5 million plus.
That stuff is overrated and usually when you hear people talk about how Player X is great in the clubhouse it's to mask the fact that he's not very good on the field (also see Alex Cora or Kevin Millar). If the Mets start winning again the clubhouse will be fine and if they continue to lose it's not like a speech or jokes from Francoeur is going to keep everyone together.
Francoeur supposedly requested the deal once he saw Pagan would be starting ahead of him. LOL, not gonna happen because a huge part of that argument was that Ryan Church sucks far more and that hasnt changed. Church was our Escobar...didnt get along in the clubhouse, too many bonehead plays (like missing 3rd base), etc. As far as Frenchy...He was taking pitches early this year for the first two months or so but the last two months hes been on a massive swing at everything binge.
Incorrect. Not the argument with me anyway which was Francoeur sucks and isn't good enough to be an everyday player. You and others kept saying he's going to be a good player etc. We never argued about the actual Francoeur for Church trade because I don't think I ever really had an opinion on it. I know I've been going back and forth with Rocky for years on Francoeur well before he was traded to New York about it. I always said he won't ever be a valueble player because he swings at everything and really isn't a good hitter. I think someone (I forget who but it wasn't you) even tried to compare Francoeur with Carl Yastrzemski during the debate about whether Francoeur is actually good or not. Just simply wanted to pointing out that the Jeff Franceour Era with the Mets didn't go as well as everyone thought it would.
That's kind of what Frenchy does. It's why five years ago we were speculating at how big a star he was going to be and now we're speculating how much longer he'll be on an MLB roster. He makes some adjustments, has some success, and then reverts back to his old ways like clockwork.
Even a broken clock is right 2 times a day. Somehow the analogy fits perfectly with Francoeur (except of course that a broken clock has more trade value and would probably take a pitch or too every at bat).
Just wow. What the heck was frankie thinking? Roid rage? As far as where we (or at least I) went to...try the nba thread
Just LOLZ @ "you can't speak to my mami that way". Is he kidding me or what? Is he a twelve year old? Start acting like a professional.
He is a spoiled little momma's boy who always gets what he wants. There is a reason three women have restraining orders on him. One of the Mets need to take him behind the bullpen and beat the snot out of him, but we only have wimpy guys so that won't happen.
Unfortunately we cant beat the snot out of him....have you seen the rest of our bullpen? Yeesh! Not pretty.
Anyone else here put money that R.A. Dickey would pitch a one hitter tonight? Good, now I feel better that I didnt. Seriously, only Cole Hamels got a hit, just missing the first no hitter in Mets history.
Dickey has been amazing this year, and you know, with that sinker, he could pitch another 5 to 7 years.
Ok, if things for the Mets can't get more sorid there is a rumor - and I can't emphasize the word rumor strong enough - that Joe Buck is getting a divorce because his wife caught wind of him having an affair with, uhm, Fernando Tatis.
Dude, hes been our 2nd best pitcher this year. For a guy who has been rattled with injuries his whole career and who spent years in the minors learning to master the knuckleball after all his arm surgeries dropped his velocity from the mid 90's to the mid 80's I am happy for the guy. Hes got better stuff then Wakefield for example and he should be able to pitch til hes around 40. if the mets brought him back on a 2 year deal or something Id be happy for him. Hes the best story this team has going. His perseverance and humility is everything that is right with pro sports. I heard this too but i have yet to hear it from a credible source. I heard it this morning when i woke up to a caller on WFAN talking about it.
This is where I heard it was mentioned first, I am kinda shocked WFAN didn't use the cutoff button on this caller, this is pretty damning stuff here.
#rangers acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur and cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for infielder Joaquin Arias.
I'm just SHOCKED that a guy with a career OBP of .309 in over 3300 plate appearances failed. So much for that chance of scenery huh?
I liked Frenchy, that arm in the OF will be missed. He showed flashes this year of being very good when he took pitches, but than he would fall back into swinging at everything. Just sorry they have not cut Perez and Luis (nice way to blow the game last night) Castillo. Looking forward to see Mejia get some starts and this power hitting kid that plays the OF (Duda 2007 seventh-round selection out of USC hit 17 homers in 70 games for Buffalo, tying a franchise record with homers in five consecutive games from June 28 to July 2.)
Last night on WS of Poker coverage on ESPN: Dan Harrington: "I always wanted to play for the Red Sox as a kid, it was my dream, till I found out I couldn't Hit or Field the ball." Lon McCaraghn: "Well, that would not have stopped you from playing for the Mets." ouch. FIRE MINAYA.
The Mets simply don't believe in sunk cost, if it were the Yankees or Red Sox they would have been off the team months ago. I'd be shocked if either guy is on the team by opening day next year and if they are it's only because the Wilpons don't want to pay them to play for another team. It all comes back to Omar though, he signed both guys to those insane contracts when Castillo wasn't going to come close to getting that in the open market both in terms of years and dollars and they were bidding against themselves for Perez ignoring all of his warning signs.
I could live with the mets going with a youth movement. See what Duda, Tejada, Meija, possibly Fernando Martinez have over the last 30 games or so. Pretty sure Bay is done for the year and youre 13 games out at this point. They should be sending: Reyes (when healthy) Thole Wright Davis Beltran Duda Pagan Tejada/Arias (2B) Might consider starting Pagan in Cf and Beltran in RF since Beltran is the oldest starting CF in the majors right now since Torii Hunter is play LF now. On the good side: R.A. Dickey and the Mets are discussing a contract extension. The Little Dickey That Could has been phenomenal. After all the arm surgeries he's been through and the way he has pitched this year, count me a fan.
Is this the smart move though? Like you said Dickey has already had numerous surgeries and although he's having a good year is he a safe choice going forward? Not sure if he's still going to be under Met control next year or not (I know he's only had 4 or 5 years of MLB service time) but signing someone like him long term after 1 good year just seems odd (although it is possible that CitiField helps him out and knuckleball pitchers do tend to bloom late). I'm not saying don't bring him back but if the Mets do have him under control for next year already there's no reason why they should jump into a multi-year deal with him right now.
I would sign him, I'm sure it will only be a one or two year contract, they don't have him under contract next year. Boik, Fernando is hurt again.
I guess it was ok for people to gloat about Francoeur when he was having a few good weeks at the start of the season but it's not ok for me to gloat when the bottom falls out in which case makes me pompous? Please. I've only been beating the Francoeur isn't good drum for 3 years now. It's not anything new nor my fault that you were possibly too much of a homer to realize it when we had our debate last year, as there were obvious red flags with Francoeur that myself and a few others tried to point out using facts, stats and trends to back up our arguements. If Francoeur turned it around and turned into a useful MLB player I would have been more than happy to admit that I was wrong (believe it or not it happens to me at times). I'm a stand up guy so I take my victories as well as my defeats. Plus a lot of this Francoeur stuff I post is me having fun with guys like Rocky Racoon and Boik since we've had countless debates on this issue. They don't take my knocks and digs to heart, it's all in good fun and joking around, trying to have a sense of humor. But seriously, I told you so.
Ok thanks for the information, then yeah I don't have a problem signing him for another year with maybe an option based on performance. They could probably get him on the cheap too. I'm starting to lose some faith in the Fernando Martinez bandwagon. The guy just can never stay healthy.
