Ken Rosenthal suggested that a Carlos Delgado-Richie Sexson deal might make sense for both teams. Here's the link.

I think he's just suggesting it as something he thinks would make sense, not a deal that's being discussed. At least, I hope so. Delgado was at least good for half of last year. Sexson hasn't been good in two full years.

Yeah, I don't like that deal. Delgado has been struggling but lately he has been showing signs of coming out of it. I wonder if he was still hurting.

The problem with the Mets for the last year has been how inconsistant they have been. Every game you think its the start of a breakout for several people(Delgado,Beltran.Reyes,Castillo) and it never lasts for more than a day or 2.. I cannot remember when 2 players on the Mets were hot at the same time. We have been waiting for this team to go on a run and we keep waiting and waiting. Just a very frustrating team to watch.

I would flip the heck out if we got sexson. I mean Delgado hits 220 and we complain but Sexson hasnt seen 250 in 2 or 3 years. 220 is his norm. No thank you. Not even if Seattle paid his salary in full.

And as far as managerial replacements go I think Oberkfell and Carter would top my list. Mazz wouldnt be bad but not great. i would love to have Davey Johnson (currently coaching team USA) or Bobby V back but because of past incidents with Valentine I cant foresee that happening. Joe Torre would do literally nothing for this bunch. Hes Willie Randolph with more tact. Not a real fiery guy like this group needs. This team needs a good kick in the butt not someone who will coddle and baby them.

Wilpon loves Bobby V, they talk all the time! But Bobby is a god in Japan, and I think he enjoys that too much

Really? Cause I was always under the impression that they were not on the best of terms. And with the whole squeaky clean image thing I wasnt sure Valentine really fit. Id love to get Bobby V back. He's royalty among Met fans as well after making it to the WS with the worst OF ever assembled. :hi5:

They talk about it on WFAN all the time, But like I said, he is a god in Japan, and he is one that loves being a god.

Wait, you mean Roger Cedeno, Timo Perez and Benny Agbayani WEREN'T a great outfield? Come on, man! Show love!

I would welcome back Bobby V or Davey Johnson with open arms. I think Greg is right; he's pretty happy in Japan, and I'm not sure he's eager to leave that. But if he and Wilpon are on good terms and talk all the time, man, that would be great.

He has a documentary coming out on showtime or HBO where college students followed him for a while in Japan, I have to find that story.

What an absolute disgrace on the missed Home Run call in this game tonight!!!!. On so many sides this was just a bad job by the umpires and Randolph. I will start with Willie....I lost ALOT of respect for him tonight as a manager. You MUST get tossed is that situation...you must blow a gasket and show your team that this DOES mean something. The Umpires totally blew the call...and your team is fighting and scratching for any sign of life...and your bench coach is the one who gets tossed. I was LIVID watching that play...and Willie just comes out and walks back to the DUGOUT. You get tossed in that situation..no ifs and or buts...show some life Willie!
As for the umpiring crew...what a disgrace!. The guy closest to the play calls it a home run(granted he even seemed lost in doing that) but then that BUM..Bob Davison..the home plate umpire who is standing over 300ft away overrulles the call...than tosses someone from the Mets for having the audacity to argue the call. I would pay a fortune to sit with the umpires after the game and let them watch the replay. Way to get the call right...then have someone a mile away overrule it and get it wrong. Lets hope there is some accountability that goes with this. You just blatantly missed a call...and worse is you changed it from a right call to a wrong one. I have disliked Davison for years...and he needs to be held accountable for a his incompetence.

Agree with both your posts NY and NJ.

Ollie pitched a nice game save for 1 pitch to Matsui. I still say deal him though. I hate his inconsistency.

JOSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE JOSE JOSE JOSE! JOSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE JOSEEEEEEEEEE! Yes Met fans I'm on the bandwagon tonight (and yesterday). Nice to see the Mets finally showing their potential right now.

Can't wait for Hankensteiner's comments tomorrow morning because you know they're coming the only regret I have is that Johan didn't pitch a perfect game on Saturday.

It helps they didnt have arod and posada (though we probably would have stole another 4 or 5 bases if Posada was in since thats what we always do vs him) but ill take it anyway we can get wins at this point

Now, the Mets can't have the let down, they have to win something like 7 out of the next 10.

Hey, I'm just glad that I'm not the only one that misses Bobby V. He'd turn this team on its head.

That's an excellent point. You hate to criticize the manager after an 11-2 win which completed a weekend sweep, but man, show some fire, buddy! Pull a Crash Davis and call the ump a ****sucker! Throw an old fashioned Lou Piniella style tirade! Do something to show your team that you'll fight for them. You don't have to go quite this far:
    Link
    or do this:
    Link

    but do something!

He is pulling out the race card also. It has nothing to do with his race, win and people will love you. I mean trying to use I Thomas as an examble?????? I could careless if he was a Alien from Mars, just win and show something.

"Is it racial?" Randolph asked. "Huh? It smells a little bit."

Asked directly if he believes black managers are held to different standards than their white counterparts, Randolph said: "I don't know how to put my finger on it, but I think there's something there. Herman Edwards did pretty well here and he won a couple of playoff [games], and they were pretty hard on Herm. Isiah [Thomas] didn't do a great job, but they beat up Isiah pretty good. ... I don't know if people are used to a certain figurehead. There's something weird about it.

At least he seems to be fighting back some now.

You know what that quote by Randolph is? The typical guy who cant analyze why they're criticizing someone or being hard on them.

With the stuff Isiah pulled off the court even if they had won he would have had a rough time. With Herm Edwards in game management any coach would have faced the same criticism. Dave Wannstedt suffered the wrath of the press and fans for a lot of the same reasons. His examples are nothing more then a copout and if that how he manages a team, making excuses for them its no wonder we're struggling. If youre making excuses, you cant be hoding them accountable.

If he gets swept by the Braves I hope he gets fired. But I doubt Atlanta can pull that off. For one we're way too Jekyll and Hyde to let that happen, We'll play at least 1 great game every series which is what aggravates the hell out of us, and then usually play at least 1 game like crap.

You're prolly right. Although we do have the best home record in baseball and we've dominated the Mets at home over the last 8 to 10 years. I dont anticipate Glavine and Jorge Campillo both getting wins though.

    Should be a good series.

Here's the part that gets me...

Um...probably because Joe Torre won 4 World Championships and never had a team look as disorganized and disinterested as Randolph's often has. Torre's biggest flaw was in bullpen management, specifically, how he'd ride a couple of guys right into the dirt (usually Mariano Rivera and 2 setup men). Randolph's biggest flaw is in bullpen management...as in trusting the absolute WRONG guys. Call me crazy, but I'd much rather have a manager overwork the best pitchers than let guys like Guillermo Mota and Scott Schoenschiesse stroll into the game smelling like gasoline.

The marlins are facing in this order: Micah Owings, Brandon Webb, Danny Haren. By the end of the week we might be in 1st and Willie will be saved. For now.

I have to tell you...its a day later and I am still so pissed about how Randolph reacted to the bad call by the umpires. Show some damn life!..some energy..some fire!. Your bench coach is the one who gets tossed? You start to see why this team is so passive...they follow his lead.

Pedro looks good in spring game, could be back in majors soon

    By Jon Heyman, SI.com

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez threw so well in an extended spring game on Monday that he's been summoned to Atlanta for a bullpen session in front of club officials Wednesday.

If all goes well, Martinez hopes to be pitching in the majors not long after that. "But if you leave it up to me, I'd say, 'Put it right here,'" he said, opening his glove.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/05/19/bc.bbn.martinez/index.html

If he comes back he could be huge. Not only the experienced pitcher taking Vargas spot, but in the dugout and locker room. This guy keeps everyone loosy goosie.

Willie is making his own bed. The team was not ready to win last year? WHAT??? His problems have something to do with rascism??? Unless its a vet reliever who goes by that name that he overuses and continues to use even when he has shown nothing to warrant being on the field. Rascism has nothing to do with it. This could get ugly fast. Willie has been around long enough...especially in NY to have known how this is going to be played out in the media.
I think the frustration level of this fanbase is starting to be heard over the din of excuses and the cry for patience. Wille wants us to forget about the collapse last year and move on....really? Yea...lets just forget about it...just keep on showing us the same empathy and careless, lifeless play. We will have something else to remember about this year.:no:

well I mean all glavine did was retire 22 in a row vs a team that knows his every pitch. Maybe the reality is our hitting is just not that good. Somethings definitely missing here when you have outings like that vs a guy you know very well.
