The Phillies have a very good team. I doubt that they fall far off if at all. If the Mets get that corner Outfielder...then look out. The reason the Mets have climbed back into first has been the pitching foremost and the mind boggling resurgence of Delgado. Right now the Mets are playing with confidence and the ability to put HUGE letdowns behind them quickly. That said..after last year..NOTHING will make me sit easy.:no:

No the Phillies really dont have a good team thats what is incredibly annoying about our own ineptitude. The Phils have exactly 6, maybe 7 good players on their entire roster. After Rollins (who has been only ok this year), Utley, Howard, Burrell, Victorino (who is like a slightly better version of endy chavez), Hamels and Lidge what else is there? Id maybe include Werth but theyre too dumb to play him everyday.

The entire staff after Hamels is questionable at best. Moyer, Blanton, Kendrick, and Who's Adam Eaton are all incredibly flawed in one way or another. The pen is better then average but not dominant aside from Lidge.

And regarding Delgado...I wonder if its coincidence that all of a sudden he can get around on a fastball, play an adequate defensive 1B, and go to LF all after willie is gone. Is it possible he really didnt connect with Willie after that first year or whatever happened just made him that miserable? Whatever, keep it up as I have officially changed his name back from Delsucko to Delgado

According to idiot extraordinaire Buster Olney the Mets are talking to SD about Brian Giles. Apparently, SD would trade him to get his contract off their books. He has a NTC to 8 teams one of which is not the mets but it would vest his 11m option which for a 400 OBP machine wouldnt be bad. It would mean the end of Crapstillo in the 2 slot as well which we can all be psyched about except Phunwin :)

    ROAD SPLITS

    2008
    .326/.414/.446

    2007
    .299/.374/.496

Edit: also found this which is very interesting.

Folks just need to realize that he's still an All Star away from Petco.

    Just compare road splits 2005-2007
    Matt Holliday -
    854 AB, 127R, 240H, 54 2B, 7 3B, 30HR, 73BB, 126RBI, .281/.346/.466 BA/OBP/Slug

    Brian Giles -
    850 AB, 151R, 253H, 63 2B, 3 3B, 29HR, 150BB, .298/.404/.481 BA/OBP/Slug

And that trend has continued into 08. http://itmightbedangerous.blogspot.com/2008/07/brian-giles.html

    This is an excellent 1-6.

You do make a very good point about thier starting pitching although thier bullpen is good. Thier offense just scares the crap out of me. Just flashbacks to last year. I so want to believe in our club..trust in them...just going to take it day to day. As for Giles...sign me up!. Marlon Anderson both at the plate and in LF is just down right scary!

good job by perez... but poor guy cant get a win... he hits Howard to load the bases so they pull him, heilman throws 3 pitches to end the 8th and he gets the win, haha...

this month Perez has 4 starts, 1.35 ERA, struck out 31 in 26.2 innings, given up a total of 4 runs, yet he finished 0-1...

he got the Santana treatment this month

You know what they say, if you dont wanna see a guy celebrate after hitting a home run...dont give up a home run.

Reyes does crap like that every time he hits a homer. This was nothing out of the ordinary. There is officially a rivalry between these teams. Bout time too, the Braves were getting tired if being the only rival of all the NL East teams

The fun part of how hypocritical that article is, is that in the first game of the series when Victorino homered he was standing at home plate for like 10 minutes and theres no mention of it. Philly fans whine like babies. Everyone knows it. And thats one city that I hope never wins anything just because of their fans.

So I told the writer of that article all about just like that.

Best comeback of the year today by the PHILLIES.

They blew a 3-0 lead on the Braves and gave up 9 runs in the 4th.

Then the Phils come back with 7 runs and win it 10-9. :tongue2:

Hes just not throwing his fastball for strikes. It looks like the only pitches he has confidence in are his change-up and slider but the problem is those work off his fastball so hitters are sitting on them and taking them for balls. As a result hes walking guys and having to take something off his 90-93mph fastball and hes throwing it 85-87. Thats a pretty significant difference.

Nice job by Johan with the CG today. We needed that after we used everyone in the pen during that 14 inning gem last night. If anyone can inform me why in the blue hell you pitch to Albert Pujols with a tired relief pitcher who has a propensity to give up home runs Id love to know? I spent much of last night and this morning trying to figure it out. I mean if Rick Ankiel or Troy Glaus beats you well then stuff happens. those guys K a fair amount also so you can get around them. But you pitch to a guy hitting 349 after Heilman had thrown 45 pitches in 2+ innings? I asked on another board but all I got were a bunch of Jerry defenders. I like Jerry but thats got to fall on him for not just walking Pujols in the 14th inning saturday. When someone figures that out let me know.

On a related note, there seems to be 1 game every series we just throw away. We had the blown lead in the Phillies series, the game saturday with the aforementioned situation...For a team thats like 4 games back of having the best record in the NL, this crap can be costly when we're trying to get home field!

Forget his hits, did you see that sick catch he made today robbing a Card of a sure HR?

But you are right, I mean this Mets team his nine home runs this weekend and he didn't have one, like you said imagine what this team will be like when he does get it going.

I dont think we have what it takes to get manny unless you want to give up a certain OF half his age? And then pick up his 20 million options the next 2 years? I love manny as a player but hes 36 and a handful for any organization with his nonsense. If we didnt I couldnt kill the organization because I really think Manny is the most feared hitter of his era in a big spot, even more then pujols and arod and hes one of about a dozen players with a career OPS at 1000 (hes currently at .998) and getting him gets Beltran in the 2 slot where he belongs. But I dont want to completely drain the minors either and getting manny is a win now move where Fernando, Niese Parnell and any high minors prospect with any upside we have is gone....though I think I just named them all lol.

    • Pedro Martinez has arrived in Florida and should rejoin the Mets on Tuesday. He’s officially listed for Friday’s start in Houston. Pedro will throw a bullpen session tomorrow, with batters standing in the box but not swinging at Dolphin Stadium. He’ll be capped at about 80 pitches against the Astros. Martinez returning after a team off-day is by design, since it ensures a rested bullpen as a hedge against a short outing.

    • Ryan Church will begin taking batting practice Tuesday, and ideally play in minor-league games this weekend with St. Lucie and be activated next week against the Padres.

    • Jerry Manuel has anointed Fernando Tatis as his left fielder barring a trade. Translation: When Church returns, Endy goes to fourth outfielder and defensive replacement.

    • Manuel plans to stay away from Aaron Heilman for a second straight game today, after Heilman tossed three innings Saturday. Told he could now use Heilman as a starter, Manuel said he told Heilman the very same thing.

Per Adam Rubin's blog - NY Daily News.

Well, it's a moot point. ESPN is saying that we have no interest in Manny. I would absolutely bring him in if it could be done without giving up Martinez...which it almost certainly couldn't.

Mets contact Red Sox about Manny
Contrary to the denials that made the rounds Monday, officials from both teams say the Mets have contacted the Red Sox about Manny Ramirez and are interested in pursuing a deal for him if Boston decides to make him available. The Red Sox suspect that GM Omar Minaya wants Ramirez more than Mets ownership does. Regardless, the Mets are reluctant to part with top-prospect talent in exchange for outfielders like Adam Dunn, Raul Ibanez and Randy Winn, but they (rightly) consider Ramirez a far superior hitter to those in that group, and they would discuss players in a Ramirez deal that they would not discuss in others. What remains to be seen is whether a Ramirez deal is too complicated to come together in time for the deadline. (Newark Star-Ledger)

I was surprised that we didn't inquire about Harden when he became available.

next best thing is to make sure we have the best lineup in baseball. You add manny to what we have.....that SHOULD be enough.

    BTW, Marlin fans are abusive...LOL!!!!

We always talk about how Jet fans are obnoxious..but WOW....

Hard spot for me since I like both teams (ties go to the Mets), but Jesus H. Christ...the 4 Marlin fans there last night where insane.

Heaven forbid if they knew I lived 20 minutes from the stadium as they told me to go "**** myself back to New York."

They are talking about Beltran for Manny on WFAN, would you do it. (They are not saying that is the deal)

Its intriguing, you could put Edny in CF and not lose on defense, and gain more offense with Manny and not have to give up to many prospects that way. But I'm not sure I pull the trigger on that one.

I'd feel like when we signed Mo Vaughn. It'd be pretty hard to get past the lingering feeling that his best days may be past him. I'm fine with Beltran, and I'm especially comforted with him only being 31.

Well, that's where you and I part company. And not for the first time. :wink2:
Where you see a 26 year old with electric stuff and tremendous numbers, I see a kid with a fragile body who's only once even come close to pitching a complete season.

No, I would not do it. In fact, I almost barfed up my lunch reading that.

    1. Beltran gives production at the plate that's not too far off from Ramirez, is younger, a bit cheaper, and significantly more valuable on defense and the basepaths.
    2. Any scenario that ends with "and Endy Chavez can start" is a bad one.

No. I think the shallow LF hides Manny defensively. Without a stud like Beltran in CF the OF defense would blow. Offensively Manny is a higher average more clutch hitter, and man wouldn't it be fun to see the stats Wright could post with Manny behind him.....however we lose the speed element this team is built on. Beltran is very low maintenance where as manny...not so much. While I wouldnt be upset to see the statue go this doesnt really solve much for us, it just creates a different hole. Plus I think Id rather see Tatis in LF then Endy in CF on an everyday basis.
