Yes and if he played in any city other than NY he wouldve finished 3rd in the voting behind Atkins and the winner of the award, Chipper Jones.

A gold glover making 21 errors

Well yeah, Hurdle didn't want to be called a homer, but I think Wright has better range than Atkins. Atkins moves maybe 2 or 3 steps to the right or left, whereas Wright is diving all over the place. I think this is why Wright makes some more errors...maybe trying to do a little too much at times. I was checking assists, and Wright had 324 last year to Atkins 252. They are both solid, have good arms, and can turn the DP as well. I am hoping my Phillies can acquire Atkins, who played with Utley at UCLA. We don't have a
3B like Chipper or Wright and if we got an upgrade at 3B we would have a sick infield.

Wright does have great range. He just has very inconsistent throwing mechanics. Reminds of Rey Ordonez. Guy would dive for a ball, get up and throw a strike to get somebody out and throw a routine chopper in the dirt on his next chance.

Besides that I always feel that guys who play in NY get too much credit and are constantly overrated. So I like to take a cheapshot at them whenever possible.

You know youre wrong when philly fans defend a player cause they dont even defend their own.

Wrights errors are all throws as he very rarely misplays a ball but there are some that would be avoided as well if he had a 1b who was any good defensively. Im not even talking about a human vacuum cleaner type like Keith Hernandez back in the day or Doug Mentkieviecz but if there was say a John Olerud thee who wasnt the most agile but made some solid defensive plays while he was there....

Good to see Hurdle has more common sense then the fans. Another ex met comes through :)

I see, so the requisite for winning a "Gold Glove" only has to do with stopping a ball. Make a bad throw and you're still ok, got it

You cant tell me that if Wright played in Atl and Chipper in NY (besides you guys having alot more division titles and maybe a WS) that award would still be on D. Wright's mantle right now. Thats really my point.

Dude his range is as good or better then Chipper's when chipper came up as a SS. Chippers a hell of a good player who I have admired for many years so I cant say what youre saying is true. However I am extremely familiar with wrights body of work. Over 80% of his errors are throwing related and about 35% could have been avoided with an average defensive 1b in range factor instead of Delgado. With a good 1B youre probably looking at about 50% fewer errors....:wink2:

The Rockies gave the Mets tonight's game....three straight innings they loaded the bases and never scored a run. That's hard to do....even for Clint Hurdle. Aaron Cook could be 15-0 if he didnt play for the Rocks. The Rockies lose a lot of 2-1 games. I think Hurdle should be given his pink slip after he manages the all-star game.

Phils pulled out a nice win. :tongue2: Looks like the Dodgers are going to lay down on the Marlins. The NL West couldn't beat some AAA teams.

    God, I miss John Olerud.

One of my favorites ever. That year he batted .354 for the Mets was awesome.

IMO that was the greatest Infield of all time, or at least the greatest Infield I've ever seen.

Ventura, Ordonez (went 105 games without error), Alfonzo (I think 4 errors all year), Olerud.

The possible career-ending injury to Moises Alou means the Mets have to look at the trade market for a replacement, and baseball sources are telling Newsday's Anthony Rieber the Mariner's Raul Ibanez is a possibility.

Joel Sherman of the NY Post reports that if the Mets are willing to take some money, "they might be able to use a Double-A corner player such as Mike Carp, Nick Evans or [Daniel] Murphy to complete a deal."

Ibanez is in the last year of his contract and can become a free agent next year. The Mariners have the worst record in baseball and are in the cusp of full sell-mode.

Ibanez is the M's best player, but at 36 and in the current trade market he's more of a commodity than a franchise player.

The Manhattan-native played with Carlos Beltran in Kansas City.

"He's a great guy," Beltran told Rieber. "Love him as a person, as a player. Great guy, great guy. I think he's a great, great player. A player no one really talks about, but he always does his job. Driving in 80, 90, 100 runs, hits 25, 30 home runs, plays hard."

If they trade Carp or Murphy in a deal for a 36 year old outfielder I may just puke!

OK Mets fans....looks like we let you back into the race. That is what happens when Cholly Moronuel keeps sending out Eaton and Myers. :pity:

The all star break can't come quickly enough. Still lots of baseball to be played. :tongue2:

Ibanez wouldn't be my first choice, to be sure. That said, I don't think Murphy's a great prospect. He's 23, a tad old for AA ball, and has just started to hit. Moreover, he plays a position (3rd base) where we're set for the next decade, and I don't see that there's been any showing that he could play 2B. I like Carp a bit better, but we did just draft Ike Davis, who figures to be on the fast track to the big leagues anyway.

Of the guys at AA not named Fernando Martinez, I think Nick Evans is the one with the best chances of success. He's been tearing the cover off the ball this year, at age 22.

You guys should stop looking ahead at the Phils who we both know will end up blowing their lead, and more right next to you at my Marlins.

Good luck the rest of the way. Nearing the all star break. If you have any one large advantage it's most certainly Santana.

Actually Murphy was moved to 2B about 2 weeks ago as I think they are trying to fast track him seeing as 3B is blocked for at least the next decade. Hes played well there considering its an in-season move on short notice but i think the Mets suspect either Castillos injury to be worse then thought or they feel Murphy has more trade value as a 2B. He would be the one Im most willing to deal though as I think Reese Havens will also be fast tracked seeing as how he is shredding in A ball and likely to see AA soon imo.

I agree with you on Evans. I think hes the 2nd best hitting prospect at or above AA and he made the AA all star team.

Carp however I am kind of reluctant to deal because I feel he may be a late bloomer. Either way I'm skeptical about moving any of them for a 36 year old rental OF like Ibanez. I think what I would rather do is acquire Bronson Arroyo's bloated contract, for crap since Im sure Cincy wont be picky in that situation, use him as my 5th starter, and deal Perez for a bat seeing as how I think he could bring more in a return possibly.

That said for the right price, I would take Ibanez without question as I think he is all of the things Beltran said. Hes a hard worker and a smart player. :hi5:

Pedro left early with shoulder stiffness, as a precation. At least he was looking more like Pedro with only 1 hit and 3 walks through 4.

Stud Pelfrey pitches tomorrow as theres a hard act to follow after the 1 hitter 5 pitchers combined on today...

Sad but true. If not us though I'd rather it be the Mets than anyone else in the division. I can't stand the Phillies like most Marlin fans. I've never had anything against the Mets though.

King Fernando is starting, batting 7th, for the AA World All stars. Despite being injured part of the year and all of 19, he may not be that far off....possibly september.

He's got a .759 OPS at AA. Unless he heats up dramatically, I don't see much point to bringing him up this year.

Actually, until the last couple years, I've never held anything against the Phillies. They've almost never been good at the same time as the Mets, so it always seemed to me that it was nothing more than a geographic rivalry. Traditionally, I hated the Braves on a different level from every MLB team, then the Yankees, then the Marlins. I hate the fact that the Marlins would cry "small market!" whenever it suited them, yet blatantly bought the 1997 World Series. I hated the fact that they were an insta-franchise that demanded to be treated like a real team, despite playing in a city where the only sports people care about are pro football and college football, and where the attendance is usually limited to friends and family.

Actually Bernazard has been quoted saying that had Fernando not been hurt he would have been up once or twice already...

Nick Evans is slugging with a 900 OPS in AA does that automatically jump him over Martinez as a better prospect? of course not. Fernando's OPS suffered from the slump suffered right after his injury. :wink2:

Did you see the crowd with Pelfrey in the 8th????? This kid is feeding off it now, man he can be good. That hard sinker and the 4 seam rising fastball are a great mix.

Thanks Boik......you and Greg are ok for Met's fans. :tongue2: :bighug:

I think you have good fans and bad fans with every organization. I don't know any Jet's fans so I hate most of them, but I know a Pat's fan who I can usually watch a game with and he never talks crap about my Phins and I never talk crap about his Pats. I think the Phils and Mets play a series a little while after the all-star game....that should be a huge series. I don't get why Ryan Howard isn't in tonight's HR contest when he leads the league in homers. Look for Chase Utley to hit a lot of pitches into that short porch in RF at Yankee Stadium.

The thing is he shows the type of plate discipline that will translate fine because he works pitchers deep in to counts. Besides with the quality of pitching at the mlb level it really wouldnt be much different then AA... :wink2:

Church will be back this week which will help, every Doc said it was migraines (which he has a history off).

I would platoon Easley and Reyes (the other one) at 2nd and find a injury on Castillo to keep him out of the mix!

Church coming back, now trade some fringe prospect or Murphy since he has no position, for Ibanez.

And ANYTHING that keeps Castillo out of the mix, up to and including whacking his knees with a bat, Im in favor of. Ive seen enough of him to last a lifetime. Slag city.

  35. phunwin

phunwin Happy kids are Dolfans. Luxury Box

Yeah, because that .365 OBP is KILLING us.

One problem is that Castillo's defense has fallen off. Easley is, at this point, just as good, and A.Reyes has been stellar on D, though he can't hit a lick. A platoon of Castillo and Easley at 2B might make sense, since Castillo has generally been a better hitter lefthanded, and has certainly been this year (.277 BA, .380 OBP).

If we could get Ibanez for Murphy, I'd be all over that. I'd really like Nady, but I would think the Pirates will want a lot more.

i dont care about his 365 OBP. I care about the fact Id rather see the pitcher up in a big spot then him. The guys is bloody useless. They should have a little league fence up where the outfield grass starts when hes hitting since thats about as far as he can hit the ball. USELESS. that hefty 331 Slg and 695 OPS says a lot but when your manager says dont rush back I think that speaks VOLUMES! :wink2:

Nice win by the Mets. 4 in the 9th to come back from 8-6 down. Johan didnt have it tonight but David Wright (Go ahead hr, 4 RBI), Tatis (3rbi) and Delgado (hr, 3rbi) did have it. :hi5:

Are you trying to ignore stats, or is it just happening accidentally? You don't score runs without guys on base. If you're getting on base, you can score runs. Check out his numbers; by nearly every measure, he's a better hitter with men on base than without.
