The way he pitched for most of last season, I'm pretty sure he was an Atlanta Brave then, too.

And of course Church gets hurt to end the game. Yunel Escobar's knee meet Ryan Church's head. Not good.

That was a scary moment. Why did Church go in so high? I realize he was trying to break it up (as he should) but he almost looked as if he was caught in between a hard slide and peeling off.

This is going to be the Mets season.

Now today we will go out and score 10 runs, everyone will say we are ready for a run, and than we will lose two more.

Swept by atlanta. Wright doubled off on a line drive. Beltran caught in a rundown in the 8th on a ball hit to SS while hes on 2nd. If theres a team that runs the bases and fields worse then we do, Id like to laugh at that little league team. No common sense. This team is just aggrevating to watch. Just stupid players, no coaching, no emotion.

The pitching is fine. Yohan pitches another pretty good decent game, no one fields their position better except maybe Maddux.

I feel you bro. First time Ive ever felt bad for the Mets. They arent running the bases smart, they look lost defensively, guys arent picking each other up. Mental mistakes are killing them.

As an outsider with an objective point of view I'll say this. Willie isn't booting balls, getting doubled up on line drives, or throwing balls to the incorrect bases. Is it his job to get them mentally prepared? Of course, that is what coaching is all about. But his players arent helping him or themselves out too much. The attitude and morale of that team is whats most dissapointing to me if Im a Mets fan.

Willies biggest mistake seems to be the comments hes made lately. When you start caring what the teams TV annoucers say about you then you have a serious problem with paranoia,

Problem for the Mets is if they let Randolph go whos gonna step in? Jerry Manuel? Jim Fregosi? I think they have to let him try and right the ship for now. Its a lose/lose IMO. The hole seems to be dug too deep for Willie and Minaya...

No, but he will be gone when we get back by Colorado if we don't win that series.

New coaches list not in any order, my short list

    1. Lee Mazzilli
    2. Larry Bowa
    3. Tom Kelly
    4. Bobby Valentine

But word is Manuel is the early favorite

Oh I completely agree but theres 3 problems.

    1. You cant change all the players in mid season so someones gotta take the fall when the team looks completely inept.
    2. This is just a carry over from last year. I dont think its only Willie who is paranoid I think its a locker room full of player who are like that. They remind me of the Dodgers a few years ago; you kinda look at the roster and go how are they this bad? Then you watch them play and you wonder how theyre even 500 with how many mistakes they make.
    3. The lack of simple fundamentals falls squarely on the manager first. If the players arent performing for you theres a reason. Where's his Jim Leyland tirade? Or the Phillies rallying around Cholly Manual last year? You have to strike at least a little fear in to players. If you cant or dont you lose effectiveness and your team gets too complacent which seems to be what has happened here.

Bring back Bobby V. Hire Lee Mazzilli. Keith Hernandez or Gary Carter, Carter in particular since he has asked for the job and has managing experience...though I think hernandez would be great at it. The only thing I ask is that it be someone who shows more passion and fire then Willie does. The guy is Joe Torre minus the rings and some brains. I watch Willie during games and I get images of Torre sitting there with sunglasses on and looking like hes sleeping. Except Torre had a team full of players aching to play for him.

Maybe its me but Tom Kelly would just reek of another Art Howe situation. I think Kelly might be better but I think he'd also be best in a small market.

    Managerial style
Kelly's managerial style has been described as "even-keel," emphasizing consistent performance over the span of a season rather than flashy individual game performance. Under his and successor Gardenhire's leadership, the Twins have been widely known for playing the kind of fundamental baseball that wins ball games consistently, rather than having individual superstar players, although a number of well-known stars have emerged from the Twins organization under their leadership (most notably Kirby Puckett).

I'm not sure Kelly's what the Mets need. I think "even-keel" is the opposite of what we're looking for. Bobby V or Davey Johnson would be great.

I'm kind of leaning towards Larry Bowa, I don't think Bobby V will come back.

But I think they will give it to Manuel

Theres always a few idiots in every fanbase. A lot of people overreatced to Valentine's mustache incident. The rest of us realized we made a WS with one of the worst OF's ever assembled. With Johnson it was a different scenario, Doc and Daryl's drug issues derailed any chance that group had at long term success. Darling couldnt maintain his success. There was the idiotic trade of Kevin Mitchell who would have been the middle of the order bopper they needed. Johnson didnt have the players either.

Thats the difference here is willie has the players. Same group as 06 when we were killing everyone. the only things that have changed are 2nd base (Pornstache vs Castillo), 1b (Good delgado vs bad delgado), catcher (Lo Duca vs Schneider which is basically a wash), LF (Alou vs Floyd, another wash though I think we could have used Floyd's leadership). Everything else is the same.

Forget a return of Davey Johnson. He hates MLB. As for Mazzilli..I have heard that he isn;t the sharpest tool in the shed.

No I didn't, he could not catch or throw anyone out. And the pitchers didn't like the way he called games (Another big reason they got rid of him besides his mouth and injurys)

He threw out about 25% of runners in 06, not a horrible percentage at all champ. And so far as that pitchers didnt like the way he called games, Ive heard exactly the opposite.

I can see why some on this team didnt like him; he doesnt kiss some of the butts that like to be kissed. He just tells it how it. And for a team that cant handle adversity, you would think they'd want someone who possesses leadership qualities, but again that makes too much sense.

Not this one. Probably the only two managers to leave that I was truly pissed about.

Imagine how well Reyes could perform under those guys, especially Bobby V. Could change the atmosphere of the entire team.

Bobby V is a good manager, but I think he's the kind of guy who's schtick gets old sooner than later. I think he's the sort with a no more than a 5 year shelf life, even in the best of times. See also: Ozzie Guillen, who's a good manager and due to get the ax for the same reason.

As for Johnson, I didn't understand at the time why they let him go, and 18 years of life has not enhanced that understanding.

True, but I would be absolutely stunned if Schneider continues to hit like this, there's nothing in his history to suggest he's anything more than your normal .250/.300/.350 hitting catcher. And I don't give a hoot how much the pitchers like him; the dropoff from LoDuca's usual numbers to THAT makes him a downgrade.

(It's for this reason that I always thought we pushed Piazza out the door too soon. Yeah, he had a lousy arm, but he produced far more runs with his bat than he gave up with his arm.)

I think injuries had more to do with Piazza not being resigned then anything. I still dont believe that it was anything personal, just that Piazza wasnt staying healthy the last 2 years of that 7year 91 million deal the mets gave him...

Another terrible loss tonight. Blew a 4-2 lead (thanks willie for running ollie out there with 102 pitches after 5 so he can walk his 7th and 8th batters of the night to start the 6th), blew a 5-4 lead as wagner gave up his first run of the year to Holliday (which I can live with)....but of course you know you wont get 2 scoreless innings from Heilman so why would you bother trying! So dumb.

But Omar did give him that vote of confidence today and there is a meeting set up Monday. Which means willie probably has til the end of the month. They said that during the broadcast of tonights game on TV...

Wow this Mets team is such a mystery. They play good ball last weekend and beat up the Yankees and then they can't get out of their own way in Atlanta and Colorado so far. I do think it is probably time to let Willie go. It seems like he doesn't have a lot of control in the clubhouse and it seems like a lot of the veterans walk all over him (plus I personally don't think he's a good manager to begin with). I think the Mets need a manager that is totally opposite from Willie, I heard Larry Bowa's name mentioned and I think he might be a good fit there.

I don't think the past year and a half is all Willie's fault, blame has to be put on the players and also Omar too as I think he's done a so-so job as Mets GM.

Don't want to get anyones hopes up here but apparently Mike Francesca leaked out today that in a private conversation with Keith Hernandez that if they offered him Willie's job he would accept it.

Ohhhh baby, com'on Jeff, if you get rid of Willie and hopefully soon, do the right thing man.
