To sum up... Smoltz,Chipper, Smoltz, Smoltz, Chipper (again), Tex (Finally), Mcann, Johnson, Bullpen, Shutout. The people who say Smoltz isnt a first ballot HOF either arent a eligible to vote on entry to the hall or should have their privelege revoked.
Moylan looks like he's done for the year with Tommy John. Just when we thought the Bull Pen was going to be a huge strength this season...
dude we didn't have this many injuries last year. Maybe all my chicken loving has caused some bad voodoo....
Four in a row! Looks like Jurjjens might be what we all hoped he would be. I hope nothing serious is wrong with Chipper.
4 quality starts in a row for JJ, Tex looks like he is finally heating up. He may need to if Chipper is hurt. (He's listed as Day-to-Day btw)
just got back from Atlanta... man it was nice seeing Andruw have 2 K's on friday night. course he had a double too, but true to form, it happened with no one on and had no impact on the outcome of the game. got to see Chipper hit 2 HR's, and my girls (ages 8,4, and 2)had the time of their lives, even before the friday night fireworks. the Tooner Field kids area is pretty cool, they have mini diamonds set up, with employees to pitch to them so dad can take pictures, and the kids can hit nerf balls and run the bases. my wife was ready to go about the 6th, but she got over it. the beer was cold, the dogs were tasty, and the Braves won. only thing better was if Smoltz would've been on the mound.
Sounds like a good time. Glad you and your family got to go. I might be heading down there in 2 weeks to see them play the Reds.
You might need to consider a new wife. I'm heading out to a sunday game soon. I wish I would have went today. It was a good game. Poor Andruw was 0-4 with 3 Ks.
Chipper has a quad strain, wont miss more then a game or two according to rotoworld. As far as Jurrgens...that kid was good down the stretch last year and his stats were ruined by a couple of bad starts. Steal of a deal. He shoud be a solid 3, possibly an ok 2 in 2-3 years
You are correct Sir. A very exclusive club, only 15 members thus far. Smoltz will most likely join it tomorrow night at the Ted. Its against the Gnats so he may very well get it in the 1st inning
You think people would know not to run on him by now. It was either Sunday's game or yesterday's he made this running catch in fairly deep right field and then spun around and made a perfect throw to Texeira at first base. The runner got back but the throw was just a thing of beauty. He made it look easy and he didn't even stop and set his feet or anything. The guys on sportsouth were joking last night about how Chipper wasn't having a good outing because he was only 1 for 3 with one RBI. I'm still amazed at his bat. I wonder how long he can keep this up? He'll surely be in the race for the batting title later in the season again.
Smoltz deserved more support. he was his usual self; awesome. congrats on the milestone to a great athlete, future HOF'er and class act.
i posted awhile back about Skip Carey almost dying this offseason. anybody been listening to the Braves broadcasts on the radio? he sounds so bad i am not sure if they aren't wheeling him in on a stretcher every night for the games.
I hope they all apologized to him. The way they played they didn't deserve to be on the same field with him last night. 10Ks in 7 innings - an outstanding performance as usual. Francoeur did pretty good at the plate, i think he was 2/3 with a walk. Everyone else should be ashamed of themselves. Shut down by the mighty Nationals pitching staff.
It's just a shame and it was irritating to watch. It's not so much that he lost it's more that he pitched almost flawlessly for 7 innings and didn't even get a single run to support him. And I've never even heard of this pitcher, it's not like he was dueling with some ace. Even Chipper flopped which surprised me.
I was pretty frustrated as well. But its not uncommon for a team to rip a guy one day and then face him a week later only to be shut down. Lannan did a nice job of making adjustments against us. He got the leadoff guy out every inning and didnt give up any extra base hits. Those are some serious keys to success. And Chipper hit the ball hard a few times last night, the Nationals defensive postioning has been near perfect all the season against us (Pat Corales)
Nice 5 spot against the Fish in the 1st tonight. We need to scratch a few more though, Chuck James makes me nervous...
