I think Jair Jurjjens is going to be winning games for a long time in Atlanta. What a great trade that has been so far.
Heavily tilted to Chipper. Wrights production is suffering from a lack of productive hitters around him, the lack of baserunners, and the fact he usually doesnt start well. But we also know that Larry probably isnt going to hit 400 all year either. In the end I expect Wright will score more runs and have more SB's while Chipper may take the power stats due to the above factors. Right now its a 3 horse race if we're looking at the MVP so far with my vote going Berkman-Chipper-Utley.
a few things: i love that Wagner had to pitch in that game to stop the bleeding. hopefully it bodes well for tonite. JJ is the fricking man. love that guy. that HR Chipper hit was unreal. low line drive that he just crushed, as stated previously, he is dialed in right now like no one i've ever seen. you could tell the announcer (Schiambi) was totally surprised, just by the way he called it on the air. did you hear them talking about the clubhouse drama with the Mets? several of the white players ( D Wright, LoDuca were named), and apparently Willie Randolph have called out latino players because when the (ever intense) New York media want to ask tough questions about the way the team has been playing, suddenly they "no hablo ingles," putting more media pressure on the non latino players. that cannot be good for the team, at all. on a (possibly) unrelated note, it pains me to see the way Delgado plays first base. guy seems afraid to get his uni dirty. he is either taking plays off, or is a complete hole in the infield. as a former first baseman, i watch the way those guys play, and he seems just lazy out there. i know he is a slow baserunner, but in the field he moves like a fat church league soiftball player.
looks like benching Francoeur on Tuesday night payed off. 3-4, HR, 3B, 4 RBI...hopefully it keeps up.
Ask and you shall receive Chipper Jones #10 3B» 2008 STATS BA HR RBI OBP SLG .410 12 34 .482 .687 David Wright #5 3B» 2008 STATS BA HR RBI OBP SLG .287 8 35 .388 .520
Those RBI numbers for Wright are impressive. Especially with only a .287 average. That must mean the guy's about as close as you can get to a sure thing with runners in scoring position. I'm sure his average will eventually drop to somewhere in the .330 to .350 neighborhood. Whether he wins MVP will depend on his health and the fortunes of the Braves this season I think.
Delgado has never been known for his defensive prowess. He's the Anti-Pujols when it comes to playing 1B. I think it has more to do with effort. The whole Mets team seems out of the game and not ready for each play. Rick Sutcliffe called out Jose Reyes for not being in good position on a ball hit in the hole. If you played the game then you know, baseball is more mental than people think. If you dont know what you're going to do before the ball is hit you're in trouble. There have been plenty of guys that played 1B with limited range who were great. Buckner, Bream, Hrbek just to name a few. Delgado is washed up, they'll probably part ways with him after this season or next.
we? I'm doing all the work here pal. Plus the stupid animals just lay there in shock. So unimaginative of them..
After Mark Kotsay's single moved Infante to third, Jones drove in the go-ahead run with a single to right. "I can't believe he did it," Hudson said sarcastically. "He never does anything against them." That one made me chuckle a little bit. I hope they can keep this up against the Dbacks and have a good road trip for once. I wonder when the Marlins are going to let up?
Winning is fun isnt it? Rick Sutcliffe said during Wednesday nights' game that it was a 'tale of two locker rooms'. The Mets was quiet and disinterested, the Braves vibrant, joking around, loose.
No doubt. The Mets have some serious problems though that go way past just losing this series in Atlanta. I'm sure they also still have the weight of that collapse last season on them. I refuse to get too optimistic until Atlanta actually does something on the road. They're not going to win anything losing every series on the road, even if they are great at home.
15/59/254 with risp. Hes tremendous with the bases loaded though 3/6/8rbi. But hes been bad with risp and 2 out hitting only 222 and thats been symbolic of this team.
Interesting, with an average under .300 and that many RBIs it just seemed like maybe he was doing a lot of it with runners on. Looks like your team is ready for some new management. A lot of those players are seriously underachieving.
yeah no joke man. Some of them are underachieving (Delgado, Beltran, Reyes), some cant stay healthy (alou), and others I wonder why they even bother to lace em up (Castillo).
Could be a long night. JoJo looked horrible in the first giving up 5 runs. I was excited for this matchup, the offense is gonna have to come thru big for us to have a chance tonight...
Campillo gets another shot tonight. I hope he tops Reyes' performance. They're also facing Randy Johnson. I wonder if some of them are remembering that perfect game he pitched against them in Atlanta three years ago.
I think we get the win tonight. Randy Johnson isnt what he once was, and Campillo's change-up has a good chance to be effective against a young, aggressive Zona lineup. Plus I dont know if we've lost back to back games at home all year long...
Who needs a one run win when you can hit a walk off 2-run homer? Is anyone more clutch than Frenchie?
Probably. I'll have to check, but I believe last year Frenchie had the most 2 out RBI's in the league. The guy was MONEY with RISP all year long.
Owings against Glavine today..early game. Keep in mind, last time Owings pitched in Atlanta..he hit 2 dingers..in one game
Didn't expect them to get the win vs. Webb. Good to see them pull even in the series. That's a 6-2 homestand I believe. Nothing wrong with that.
Nice series Braves fans. Watching this series, the local station (Foxsportsaz) kept eluding to the incredible banners. Nothing but respect for your franchise. Also, the local commentators, Mark Grace and Darrin Sutton (Son of Don Sutton ) went on for the better part of 3 innings about Warren Spahn....once again, nothing but respect. Hope the Braves well tidings, and hope we beat you if facing you in the playoffs....and if not, hope you get another Championship banner to hang with all the others DISCLAIMER: Also hoping nothing but good things for the Marlins..
BTW everyone Chis Resop was designated for assignement. This means any team can claim him via trade within the next 10 days.

You don't remember the story about him pitching with that guy in high school and hating him and all of that? It must be tough to watch someone you personally hate pitch for your favorite team.
You dont listen to anything I say Yes, that and he is a horrible pitcher. When will teams learn that one-pitch pitchers with a straight fastball (regardless of how hard they throw) are RARELY successful? Anyway he makes room for either Smoltz or Soriano.
but if we got rid of everyone that hardkore hated we'd have no team.................. it'd be just chipper.....
The fastball was working for Juan Cruz in relief the other day. I watched that guy strike out the side and it was all because nobody could catch up to his heater. But I can't say that he's been a huge success in baseball or anything. He's so skinny his arm is probably going to fly off one day.
