I know shocking.....let's hear Armando Salguero out before we put our two cents in.. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...en-the-espn-draft-guru-said-and-insisted.html
Armando say's expert personnel departments can these days identify outstanding receivers in the second and third rounds. They call them value picks. I guess Patrick Turner is a value pick
He was more referring to Brandon Marshall, Sidney Rice, and Marques Colston, but you've got a good point too.
Great article, thanks for posting. I dont really like Mel Kiper, but I agree that we should go after McClain I really want to see him in a Fin uniform next year.
If Spiller falls to us at 12, I really wouldn't be upset with taking him. With ronnie only putting one fully healthy season (albeit because of some pretty freakish injuries) and ricky retiring after next year, having another franchise back in waiting wouldn't be a bad thing. Plus, CJ has the skills to run the wildcat.
i like CJ spiller, but running back isnt needed enough to use a pick on. we have more important needs that should to be addressed now. we can worry about a RB after next season.
Armando also said he would not be surprised if the Broncos took cj spiller. Why would they take him only a year after taking Knowshon Moreno in the first round a year ago?
No way the Broncos take Spiller in the first round....just doesn't make sense. Armando is way off on that call. If anything Denver is our biggest enemy in hopes of landing McClain. However, if they lose Marshall I seriously hope that Dez Bryant distracts them enough to allow McClain to slip to us. Now that Mel Kiper says McClain will slip to us I feel like our chances of drafting him just got worse.
I love CJ and what he brings. The only thing that worries me about him is that he always seems to be injured whether it's a tweaked hammy or turf toe.
Yeah, I think we just got jinxed by the "draft expert." I'm just fingers crossed that we can get another year out of Ferguson at NT, and deal with some other core issues (ILB, WR, S) this year, without having to compound it with stuff like NT, RB, TE (what I'd say are secondary needs). Honestly though if Ferguson isn't back, I think NT is our most important position. The way the Jets are running the ball (god I'm getting sick just writing this), we need some run stoppers up front. Our run defense, ironically enough, took a nose dive when he came out, and I don't think we can afford sub par performance from that position so long as the Jets are on our calendars 2x a year. God I am so glad I'm not making decisions for the phins. Next week I'll be thinking about how important any of the other high priority positions are... ugh.
