Who fills the Miami Dolphins leadership void? http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...sweblog+(Miami+Dolphins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)
If JT isn't back I'd be surprised. On the offensive side, as much as that offense has praised Henne's leadership, I expect him to get the nod. Maybe even Ronnie as integral as he is to our offense... heck, maybe even Long since he's now going into his 3rd year, and is a pivotal anchor for that offense. On the defensive side of things I wish I could tell ya. All the more case to make sure JT stays.
Maybe they should have changed this rule: Two of the four player-elected captains – quarterback Chad Pennington and nose tackle Jason Ferguson – were placed on injured reserve after suffering season-ending injuries. Per team policy, they weren't allowed on the sidelines during games, even though they wanted to be there.
Very good point maybe the team captains should be available to support the team healthy or not they still have that leadership quality to give.
Yeah, that is a good point. Not only are they out for the season and have to live with that harsh reality, but they can't even be on the sidelines with the people they see more than their family. Crazy, as if it was bad enough.
Time for guys like Vernon Carey, Jake Long, Ricky Williams, etc. to step up. I'd hope Ferg and JT come back, but still, time to change some of the old guard.
I would like to see another open competition @ QB between Henne, Thigpen & Pennington no doubt in my mind Chad Henne would emerge the starter & much better for having to compete & the new face & leader of the team on offense.
I bet Henne/Long have talked about when it should be their time to take over the team..Its a perfect unique situation considering their past experience together for 4 years in college, and the fact that they got drafted by the same team.....It might not happen til all of our vets are gone, but it will happen. Imagine those two leading into a camp as the unquestioned leaders with rookies and changeover comin in?...sheeeeeeeee# Chad Henne...The franchise Jake Long...The franchise... They both have proved to me that this franchise has two faces.
Jake Long and Chad Henne's ceiling's have not been reached physically, and their potential leadership qualities don't even have a dent in them...... It's so perfect..Henne is the leader, and Big Jake watches his back...... bring it on.
IMO you aren't going to have a successful team unless your best players are leaders. Once Brown and Pennington went out, that role needed to be assumed by Long and Grove. A lot of the shuffling of the OL IMO had a lot to do with leadership.
After listening to Ferg's interview the other day. To me, he didn't sound very enthused about coming back to play. What was you guys take on it? It may just be me.
I did not hear it but I would expect with back with the Fins unless they plan on drafting a NT. I don't see Ferguson playing on any other team.
If you have time go listen on aquavision ant miamidolphins.com. It just kind of worried me that he didn't seem to care much. As I said, it may just be me.
That's changed , listen to his show with Mandich , Ricky is poised to be a vocal leader as well as leading by example. He has changed in his interaction with media , people and he clearly states how important football is to him at this time and how he cherishes the opportunity to play. Ricky also commented on Coach asking him why he wasn't more vocal as he told Ricky he was smart , dependable and a leader. Ricky though a lot about it and realizes this team may have a bit of a void in being ready and he will be part of the solution. Great couple of interviews , all dolphin fans should listen imo.
i think ronnie surely has to be a canidate offensively. defensively if JT isnt back i think even yeremiah bell wouldnt be a bad choice considering he's been here awhile and in my opinion had a solid season.
To say hed win hands down might be a big stretch. I do think he would win but i think henne would give him a run for his money.
Sparano gave Henne alot of credit for being a leader going into the Pit game, said he had his guys fired up and ready to play. And it definitely showed we did far better in that first half than we had in quite a few games previously. Nevertheless I don't really think fans on a message board can pick out leaders of a team. I think moreso leaders emerge on thier own. If you know what your talking about people will listen and if you get results and get them to believe they will follow you to the bitter end. But they have to want that on thier own it's not going to happen just because someone told them this guy is your leader listen to him. We don't really know what goes on in the trenches but the team does and i'm sure they already have leaders emerging in thier own minds.
thing is, may the best man win... that's competition all would grow through the experience, which is the ultimate good of the team. Competition is the Elixir of Success!let them compete
2 socks, Pennington put henne in a hole this year at 0 and 3...Henne displayed big time quarterbacking skills during the season...pennington would get whooped in a strait up training camp battle with henne imo.
We are talking about a QB with a rating of 97.4....Pennington and a QB with a rating of 75.2........Henne Really isn't anything else to say
Absolutely!!!!!! I believe we would have won at least 2 more games this year if Pennington didn't get hurt. But, myself included, all wanted to see what Henne has to offer. He's okay.......definitely not a Dan Marino. He will be decent over time. Hell , he's decent now. Dan Marino......never........Franchise.........highly suspect. JMO
wow.........no offense but can I get some of what your smokin'.............no wait my bad that's what Pennington would do to Henne
Not saying Henne is better, but we lost the last 4 games Pennington was in, including his turnover fest against Baltimore. That year we went to the playoffs we were also playing against teams we earned the right to play based off a 1-15 schedule. Pennington is a great quarterback, don't get me wrong, but judging a 1st year starter's QB Rating against the rating he put up (I'm assuming) in that light schedule year is kind of misrepresenting facts. Either way, Henne was in his first year, coming in as a mid-season replacement. Let's see what a full offseason worth of prep can do for him and the starting receivers.
sorry man but pennington is done physically three shoulder surgeries on the throwing shoulder will do that to a qb henne will be the leader on offense once he learns the nfl game and gets some experience. this season was valuable. he will be much better next season i doubt we will ever see henne be a vocal leader but a qb who leads by example im perfectly fine with with that
