MAYBE Rush and MAYBE Ozzy would get a superbowl consideration. But I doubt it. The Who is on the short list of best bands/performers of all time. Above Led Zep, and below the Stones. Even if they put on a bad show, you're still watching history everytime they take the stage.

The legend that Bruce is, and the show he still manages to put on is incredible. You cant expect that out of em all.

I've seen Led Zeppelin, I'd have to put them above The Who and Stones as far as the show goes....

Well...everything runs on money, and that age group is more likely to download entertainment without paying for it than the other; also to watch TV shows online, which doesn't help networks sell advertising one bit - and that's what finances TV shows in the first place.

The fact is, the younger demographic is changing the way money flows in the entertainment industry; maybe that's the shape of things to come, maybe it's a good thing in the long run.

But, bottom line, it doesn't make them attractive to advertisers.

Personally, I think it would be cool to take all the living members of all the great groups, or atleast any member of broken up groups that wouldnt mind, and simply put together a ALL STAR lineup band....like what Ringo does, or Paul Shafer and just rock out to any great cover song, etc.

Bro, watching Joe Namath take the field against the Steelers would be watching history too, but I don't want to see that.

I used to love the Stones, but the last few times I've seen them they've been awful. It's over, Johnny.

I've also seen Zep, and they wasted both the Stones and the Who.

Yea you can. The great ones should remain great or they should call it a day.

Dio, Motorhead, Priest, Maiden, etc etc... ALL of them put on shows equal to or better than they did in their primes while playing MUCH more intense music.

Lemmy from Motorhead is 70, and he'll kick Bruce's *** all over any stadium. Dio is 67, and until he was diagnosed with stomach cancer he was touring relentlessly with Heaven & Hell...all in their early 60's.

Maiden and Priest are all in their upper 50's, and I defy you to find someone with more onstage energy than Bruce Dickinson.

Any of those bands except Motorhead could do a halftime show and bring down the house. I could see the Priest doing "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" and "Living After Midnight" EASILY on the show.

I can see why the NFL is pushing for British acts too. They are trying to market over there. That makes Sir Paul and the Who good acts to perform. It ensures the Brits will watch the game.

All the more reason to have Priest do a halftime show.

As for The Who, it will be funny to see all the teenagers and twenty somethings posting on myspace and facebook things like "Dude, the band at the Super Bowl halftime show played the CSI themes. What's up with that??"

At first I was miffed when I heard the Who, for many of the same reasons you guys listed. (do you know your audience, NFL?, etc...).

But after I thought more about it, I realized that the NFL has previously tried to appeal to the younger crowds when they bring in Brittany Spears, Justin Timberlake, etc, etc...

All of a sudden that put it in perspective, and I owe the NFL schedulers an apology and a thank you!

In other news I'm tired of all the over-the-top PC crap in this country. Townsend isn't going to cruise school zones when here, jesus. This country sucks sometimes.

All joking aside, Rob Halford strongly affected my view toward homosexuals, and I mean in a positive way. I was much younger and more immature when I went through that "affection" - previously I had been very ignorant.

i like Motorhead. But Bruce is a beast. I don't know. He runs around and dances and sings. Britney Spears would run a train on the Buffalo Bills to be able to pull that off.

I disagree. I think if Maiden or Priest did the half time show...you and 15% of America would be super-siked...and the rest would be like "wtf?" Not saying they wouldn't perform well, just that most wouldn't care to see them. They're not now, nor never were chart toppers or very popular among the masses. Not the kind of group who can go in and sell out a Giants Stadium on their own, and run tours at such venues...like the Boss, Stones, Who, etc...

    Great post.

Funny how Townshend gets crucified for writing a story about teenage sex, but the Twilight books and movies are all the rage, and no one is protesting that aspect of them.

This country is sucking *** in social terms since the '90s; it's regressed into an even more socially and sexually repressed society than it was before the "sexual revolution."

How about Britney Spears sister who got knocked up when she was what? 16? 17?

And do you know who Miley Cyrus is? Bc she's made it pretty clear that she likes to show the goods and throw it around.

I think you just want to defend her bc I called her a whore. But what the hell, the grass is green, sky is blue, Miley's skanky.
