Agree 100% with not wanting them to play at the super bowl....but I think this statement is a bit ridiculous:

Exactly how is he a risk? Does anyone really think that Pete Townshend is going to be cruising the elementary schools unaccompanied during the day while here? Like not every eye in Miami will be on him?

    Getting a tad carried away.

I guess the whole point of the protest is the fact that the NFL has been promoting 'family values' and since wardrobemalfunctiongate they have striven to keep the half time acts more 'family oriented'. Like Prince, for instance. :chuckle:

So wait... he wrote a short story about sex between teenagers? I don't remember this much outrage when 'American Pie' was released. Infact, hilarity ensued.

Keep in mind, it's the folks who grew up with those groups that are now doing the programing. People my age, who are now in charge of securing super bowl acts, were listening to those guys when we were your age.

They also try to find music that might appeal to a broad base of viewers, rather than only the younger (under 30) crowd.

Most of the bands today are downright awful. I have no problem with artists such as McCartney performing, personally. They should try to get a band that has been around for a bit but appeals to a lot of people, such as Red Hot Chili Peppers (I believe they have a new guitarist), Foo Fighters, etc.

or better yet... will he still even be performing after 30+ years like McCartney, Tom Petty, The Who, or Prince?

Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Metallica, there are numerous bands that still have mass appeal that they could choose.

Unfortunately, Janet Jackson's boob ruined all that. Oh irony. Sweet, delicious irony.

I agree with you to a point pagan. But, at the same time, I am so paranoid about anyone like that being seen, or around, my grandgirls.
Even at such a big event.
IF he's guilty of it, that is.
I just abhor child abuse of any kind and think the abusers should be punished to the max.

Seriously Dude, you speak as though yours is the only age group that watches.
How about the parties with 30 40yr olds?

If you look, the "other 31%" consist of 19% who are 25-34.

So... you're a TV exec, and you want the biggest possible audience.... do you target that 12-31%? or the other 69-88%?

Also... when he's getting close to 40 and beyond, I'd wager he'll be singing a different tune (Pun Intended), and wanting the same stuff he wants now, while the 22 yr olds are wanting what they listen to...

I abhor it as much as anyone else Debby.

What I meant is that this man couldn't even go into a coffee shop in Bismark, North Dakota without getting recognized.

Again, how on earth is he a threat to the children of Miami? He can't go ANYWHERE without people around him.

Ditto Bro.... again, I pose the TV exec scenario to you...

Besides, I'm not saying I think they should only invite groups that you consider "oldies". I'm simply explaining WHY they do it.
Demographics drive TV, no way around that.
While I'm not a big Timberlake fan, I do like some of Janet Jackson's stuff, and the suggestion of Metallica et al, would be fine with me personally, but I don't think they would appeal to the majority of the viewers.

    I agree with you 100%.
I guess it just grates on me for anyone like that to be out in public at all.
I just don't have any good feelings about anyone who hurts or even scares a child. And I just get angry.

But, your right, he wouldn't be able to move in Miami or anywhere without being watched.

And one other thing...and I'm NOT defending him....but he never actually scared OR hurt a child.

I'm not saying I'm taking his "research" story as truth, but he never touched a child. Granted, trying to purchase chilkd pornography online is horribly wrong...but he never actually committed any acts against children.

That being said...would I want him around mine if I had any? Nope.

Better old fart band than the Who? (not all-time..but currently)

    The Final Five:

    Bruce and the E-streeters
    The Who
    The Rolling Stones
    Kiss
    Led Zeppelin

I got the Who..they still sound damn good.

Well I am in the 22 year old crowd and I would rather watch Tom Petty or The Who any day over just about any band from now they'd have do the show (you just know it would be some awful pop act like Britney Spears or Lil' Wayne).

There are some modern bands/artists that I'd like to see be on the show but since they want a mass appeal it has to be a widely known pop band/artist and once again I'd take any of the older bands any day (except please god not Bruce Springsteen again...I can't handle my ears being violated like that again).

However I don't care for the Halftime show anyway that's when I usually do whatever else I need to do (bathroom, get a bite to eat, etc.). I'd actually like to see some sort of non-music halftime show because it's never captured my attention.

Bro, the Stones are just embarrassing now. The performance they gave at the Super Bowl gave me the douche chills.

    As for old fart bands:

    Rush
    Maiden
    Sabbath
    Priest

    All still sound amazing live.
