According to the yahoo thing there are situations that get us in without Tennessee losing. As long as there is another team at 9-7 it would be a three way tie so the head to head loss wouldn't matter, and their conference record is really bad.

It would go to the strength of victory tiebreaker because both teams would be 3-3 in the common opponents tiebreaker.

The strength of victory tiebreaker cannot be decided until the remainder of the season has played out.

One thing I just noticed is that division record is the first tiebreaker with three or more teams tied for the last WildCard spot (this most likely will be the case). As of now Miami has the best division record of any of the 7-7 teams so that is why Miami is currently the top 7-7 team.

    Via the nfl:
Here is why that becomes important as early as next week. If Baltimore loses to Pittsburgh, then Baltimore would be 3-3 in their division and 8-7 overall. If Miami wins they'll be 8-7 and 4-2 in their division. So according to all this folks as long as three or more teams are tied for the last WildCard spot next week then Miami would in fact be in the six spot.

So if Miami wins next week and Baltimore loses Miami will possess the six spot. Also the Titans are still behind us in all tiebreaker scenarios if three teams end up tied so that is good.

The simple thing is that no matter what if Miami wins out and Baltimore loses just once Miami gets in.

so our situation did not change all that much, minus the chances to win the wild card... so we just need to win and balt to lose next week?

The way I read it, is the way my thread starts

We get in with 9-7 even if Tenn is 9-7

We need Balt to lose to Pitt and Jax to lose to Ne

We should have taken care of buisness in OT but...if somehow we sneak in (which I doubt)I will be as happy as last year regardless if we get smashed in the playoffs.I'm tired of playing for draft picks . I just want a shot at it.Once you are in there is a chance albiet a miracle chance. It has happened before..
Even if it was a one year wonder I would take it.

As far as I can figure out that is exactly what needs to happen...well we just need Baltimore to lose once either to Pittsburgh or Oakland.

The one thing I am still trying to figure out was why when we and Baltimore were tied at 7-6 that Baltimore was ranked ahead since Miami had a better division record (4-2 compared to Baltimore's 3-2). It appears Baltimore was ahead due to division record but according to what I am reading Miami should be ahead.

    This is all confusing.

The reason Baltimore has had the tiebreaker on us up until this afternoon was because they held the advantage in the common games tiebreaker (PIT, NE, SD and IND). They are 3-2 and we are 2-3 (each team has 1 to play, PIT).

If I'm following this correctly, we need them to lose to PIT next week. A loss to Oakland in the final week does not help us as they would have beaten PIT and thus would still hold the common opponents tiebreaker over us for the final WC spot.

Also, we need Jacksonville to lose to NE next week as well. So the scenario is: Miami win their final 2 AND Baltimore loss to PIT AND Jacksonville loss to NE.

Keep in mind, we've lost the head to head tiebreaker now to Tennessee. Thus, if they win out, we need Baltimore to win that final game @ Oakland to create a three-way tie and negate the head-to-head advantage the Titans now hold over us.

True as far as common games Baltimore is at 2-2 and we are 1-3. They beat Pitt. and SD but lost to NE and Indy. We are 1-1 with NE, and lost to both SD and Indy. So true if we beat Pitt. and they lose to them both of us will be 2-3. However common games won't matter if they lose to Pitt. because we will have them on division record first.

However you are in fact right if Baltimore beats Pitt. we are cooked. Simply because it will come down to common games and they'll have us at a 3-2, 2-3 margin (if they lost to OAK).

There's no way Denver can also become a part of the equation is there?

They're going to finish 9-7 at this rate.

Divisional records don't matter when the two teams in question don't reside within the same division.

With the Denver loss to Oakland, I'll have to see how they factor into this mix. They have a trip to Philadelphia next weekend, so they could be staring at an 8-7 record as well.

You think we blew it today, what about the Jets, they had a slim chance to make the playoffs and then they finally had their opportunity to change that, now they are in a 10x worst position then ... I still like our chances, not as much if we won today but we are not dead yet

Philly is playing as one of the top 5 teams in the NFL right now along with Minnesota, San Diego, Indy, and New Orleans.

To get the WC we need to make sure that the Jags and Ravens lose next week ... if that happens we have a shot. Regardless, we now need a lot of help to get in.

We don't deserve to be in the playoffs after losing to Ryan Fitzpatrick and Vince Young-led teams in a span of 4 weeks.

That said, the scenarios that get us into the playoffs are not far-fetched.

Baltimore isn't getting a Dennis Dixon-led Steelers team next weekend at Heinz Field and Jacksonville is traveling to Foxborough to face a New England team undefeated at Gillette and looking to wrap up the AFC East at home.

In fact, you could argue that both teams (Jacksonville and Baltimore) could/should be underdogs heading into their respective games next weekend.

Don't get too excited. Remember: Andre Johnson is looming next Sunday.

Week 16 is going to be ridiculous with the number of HUGE games:

    DEN @ PHI
    JAX @ NE
    BAL @ PIT
    SD @ TEN

Can all impact the Dolphins in a very significant way with regards to postseason positioning.

    It should be fun.

Actually the Chargers are still playing for a bye week so they do have something to play for and I think the Chargers would not want to see TN in the playoffs.

Also as I've been searching over all the tiebreaking scenarios tonight its going to be very close. It looks like if Pitt. beat Baltimore it comes down to strength of victory and if Miami and Denver end up tied it'll be strength of victory again. From what I've seen so far Denver would probably win their tiebreaker with us and Baltimore would lose the tiebreaker with Miami by a very close margin. Denver could still lose the tiebreaker as well but from what I've projected Denver would stay ahead.

We better pray that Pitt. beats Baltimore next week to have a prayer at the playoffs.

If Baltimore wins even if we win out we are more than likely done.

I have watched improvements in each of these areas over the last several games....each one, which indicates this Staff is growing and fixiing previoius issues.

We made great halftime adjustments today from a D standpoint (especially following the blown coverage - blitz package that led to their TD prior to the 1st half)

We have given up 0 4th QTR points again today

Offensive play calling - or execution of the play that was callled?

Tony's game management lately? What was the last game you feel his decision impacted us?

Again, you feel we arent DECENTLY coached?

Please explain to me how a team that finishes in the top 6 of a conference, regardless of their losses, doesn't deserve to get in? You get in the playoffs for the games you win. Playoffs are not a collection of teams who have the least amount of losses against "QB x" lead teams. The logic that any team, and even more our friggin Dolphins are not deserving is insane to me. Now, whether we'd be competitive throughout the playoffs is a whole different discussion.
