He has had moments of poor hands, times of average hands, and times of very good hands. He doesn't always show poor hands.

He runs poor routes at times, perhaps a majority of the time (I can't see coaches tape, so I do not know the percentage). Sometimes he runs very good routes, but typically I would say he runs average routes.

I don't see how he has an unwillingness to go over the middle when I have seen him run routes over the middle of the field, perhaps it would be a better argument if you expanded what you mean or worded it differently.

Alligator arms has surely happened but it is not such a frequent occurrence that it happens more than even 10% of the time. If you feel otherwise, I would love to see the evidence. I would say improper hand placement is a much bigger problem for Ginn than alligator arms.

Beyond the above and inconsistent run blocking, I am not sure what other inconsistencies you could be referring to.

I am glad you are so ready to assume what my opinion is on the matter before allowing me to reply though. That definitely made for a very good argument on your side. I mean, I guess I shouldn't even reply next time, since you can just answer for me.

    Bingo.

They do on occasion, and no one here is arguing that they havent....this has only gone down the path as to whether folks feel these traits will always define him, or whether Ginn has shown positives in 2008 and some positives in 2009 to counter these 2009 problems, and if they can be avoided going forward. Some also point out what he is actually doing as a return man to contribute while he has some deficiencies with his receiving role.

As a Fan, I dont put my self in the Former catagory, and I have read were many Fans "dissapointed in Ginn" to date do not put themselves in the Later catagory, so that is blantanly inaccurate and does nothing to foster debate over substance.

    - And the hands have only been bad for a stretch THIS season.

    - He has been open enough to shake the "poor routerunning" label I think, the double move on Revis was a thing of beauty.

    - I saw Jason Witten have "aligator arms" on a play last night and he is a 240 pound machine, but ofcourse its Ginn so lets just scrutinize it.

Pretty easy to call Ginn a *****,or a bust sitting on the couch.

So glad I woke up this morning to see so much support, especially when we got a very important game today.:pity:

i dont care if its "your game" or not to make leaping catches in the endzone.....but this picture clearly shows.....he dropped the ball, even if the guy is pulling his right arm down....why is his left hand STILL crossing the right one? what kind've catch attempt is that? like the saints game.....he crosses his hands when he attempts to catch.....

you are a nfl wide reciever. regardless of draft pick (which former dolphin darryl gardner said on my radio show "draft slot absolutley matters to performance on the field") regardless of "the game you play" or what type of receiver you are.......you need to make that catch. defend it all you want (i know you will)

but if you dont expect a nfl WR to catch that ball......then you have very very low expectations for a WR on your team.....and iam glad your not running the team

I feel he gets open a good amount as well, but he has run poor routes at times. If he were an exceptional route runner, I do not know if anyone could cover him 1 on 1. I would love for that to happen, but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Understood, and some folks have more tolerance towards it than others, but it nevers adds value to a discussion or debate about what the real issues are. Its an uneducated attempt really to convey specifics regarding what is an otherwise fair critique.:hi5:

agreed. his route running imo has gotten better.....those out routes against the panthers and patriots he had a ton of seperation.....thats exciting to see. but agreed he'd be like desean jackson.....if he can become a better route runner instead of using just straight speed.....he can be very very hard to cover 1 on 1

He did have improper hand placement (not sure how much was affected by the cb), but his left hand is "crossing" because the ball hit his right hand and he brought his left hand over to secure it. The ball came out as he was bringing the left hand over. The picture above(from behind at that), is late and makes it look much worse than it was IMO.

See, his hands don't look crossed there.

And I said I expected him to catch it, that he needed to catch it, as I am sure he expects himself to catch it. However I wouldnt kill any guy for not coming down with that pass, in particular a guy whom I know is not a jump ball WR. However it would be foolish to think I wasn't disappointed that he didn't catch it. As I've said numerous times, I was much more upset with his 1st missed TD chance than the 2nd one.

Could you expound on this? It seems to be a common argument and I want to understand more when / where this is true.

He hurt us with his drop against the Saints that turned into a TD.

He hurt us in the Indy game when he didn't come up with the game-winning catch.

While he has had a few other drops I can't think of any that were game changers that he himself was the sole reason we lost (for example - his 4th down drop against NE came AFTER a Hartline drop - so singling out Ginn is unfair. I would argue the same for Bess' fumble against NO.)

On the flip side - he single-handedly won the Jets game. And had a huge contribution to the 2nd win. His return against NE set up the game winning score I believe. In the Indy game his 11 catches (7 for first downs) was a HUGE factor in the game.

I know this thread has gotten heated and I don't mean this as an attack - just an honest question of what situations I am missing where Ginn has hurt the team more than helping.

Honestly though does anyone think Davone Bess makes that catch? He needs to work on attacking the ball while in the air thats for sure but that wouldve been a great catch and I agree to be "the guy" you need to get that ball. But he is not our #1 WR, infact he doesnt see many snaps so at this point plays like the one on the sidelines vs the Pats are fine with me.

I say to myself thats a fine play out of a #3 WR, If we judged him on his draft status anything short of multiple TD's or 100 yards would be the measuring stick...and really we would be kidding ourselves.

    1) I don't know anyone defending that specific play (other than saying its a tough catch)....not a tough drop!....we all wished he would have held on. But its not the first time, nor the last time, a NFL receiver has failed to catch what would have been a game winning TD, or failed to catch a ball FANS would expect them to catch.

The difference is subtle, but perhaps its that Ginn supporters don't view this as his DEFINING play....but rather a disappointment that can be overcome. I don't get that sense from those not only disappointed in Ginn but rather use this to claim they will always feel he cant overcome this play.

    2) I can say the same about running the FO for all the Ginn non-supporters......and frankly, from a factual standpoint, since the ACTUAL FO that runs this team still puts Ginn on the field as RECEIVER, the onus leans toward the Ginn supporters saying, see, we too believe he can add value in the future. Ginn non-supporters cant point the ACTUAL FO and claim the same.

Is the reason he gets this much hate for a drop on a 40 yd pass in a game he has 11 receptions (7 for first downs)? It was week 2. WEEK 2.

OK. I will answer from bottom to top.
You are right, I shouldn't have simply assumed your opinion. My bad on that one.
The inconsistency comment was general assessment of his overall play. His is very inconsistent in all aspects of his play.

I don't have video evidence, but my guess is his alligator arms appear more than 10% of the time. Your idea of poor hand placement is a valid one and one I actually didn't think of.

Ginn does go over the middle. I should have said his unwillingness to take a hit to make the catch. I think we can both agree he is afraid of getting hit.

We basically agree on the route running. Overall, I'd say his route running below average. But close enough.

I know. And it's unfortunate because I've been a major supporter of Ginn up until recent. He was my favorite non-Hurricane in college and I absolutely loved the pick. Defended him ever since, but I'm ready to call him out as the bust he truly is right now. What else is there to say in defense to Ginn? First it was the weak armed Pennington, now he's got a QB rifling him bullets and it's going right through his hands. Not only the drops but he plays like a puss. I thought "No Fear" was supposed to be a required theme of an athlete.

I'm not trying to start any crap here, but I find it a little ironic that Ginn is a punk when you have a guy that lived and died in a series of horrible off the field decisions in your avatar.

I will agree with anything anybody wants to say about Ginn on the field, but everything I've ever seen or read about him as a person tells me that he is a good man off the field.

Again, no ill will intended just caught my eye.
