    No Rob Chudzinski?

Bill Walsh spent some time in the broadcast booth after he retired from the 49ers and before he went back to Stanford, he covered a U game and raved about Leon Searcy's movement.

I'll never forget him saying "look at Searcy move, big men who can move that well are what makes for successful NFL blocking schemes"

Searcy ended being a #1 pick for the Steelers.

Well, he takes heavy duty back meds, and he is bankrupt, overall I sorta feel bad for B Kosar, he is also running herd over the Brownies as a "special consultant".

He is in charge of finding the Football Czar.

When they showed the guys on the sidelines in the face of the camera, it looked like Dwayne Johnson - aka The Rock - in the background.

Yeah he was on the 1991 Natl Title team.

He played maybe one full season in total, he really messed his shoulder up and just could never make it out on the field

What a great Documentary. One of the best I've ever watched. Especially for those like myself who weren't around to see the great Canes teams of the 80's.

Those 80s Canes were the greatest.

I will never forget going to the Orange Bowl. We had the family pack: $25 got you 2 adults and 3 kids into the closed section of the OB. It was general admission. My buddy and I would go with our dads + a friend we agreed could come with us. We'd get there early so us kids could sit as close to the field as possible, while our dads would sit 30 or so rows up, cause they wanted to see the whole field. However, me and my buddies just wanted to be as close to the Canes as possible.

One day, we really got our wish. I think it was 89, 90, or 91, I don't remember. Penn State in the Orange Bowl. We were in the third row in the closed end of the OB. Kevin Williams returns a punt (or maybe a kick) all the way to the house. He celebrates right in front of us. The entire Canes team runs over the celebrate. The Canes are going crazy. We're going crazy. We're smacking helmets and shoulder pads. Everyone behind us is trying to get to the players.

    And then the fence broke.

There we all are, lying on the field of the Orange Bowl, with about 30-40 Hurricanes jumping up and down. It was crazy. It was bedlam. It was awesome! Luckily, only one or two people got hurt. But for a minute there, this 14 year old boy got to celebrate on the field with the Miami Hurricanes.

Although I don't remember all the details, I'll never forget that feeling I had with the Canes.

Bratton was the guy that blew out his knees.

had he not blown out both knees in back to back years..he would have been a great NFL back...he had spectacular hands..was a great blocker and could run between the tackles.

Alonzo Highsmith...also had a series of injuries in the NFL...but he was a damn good FB....Had Gaudy numbers as a blocker for Mike Rozier.

They missed a couple of anecdotal things.....

The four fingers up at the start of the fourth quarter that you see today....

    yep..the Hurricanes started that.

it was after the 1984 season when the Canes blew 4th quarter leads against Maryland, BC, and UCLA in the fiesta bowl. Jimmy Johnson in the offseason told the team...'We are gonna play our best football int he 4th quarter....We are not going to let up on anybody."

It was payback for that 84' season.

    Awesome documentary.

The media can still kiss our asses. To hell with them all. I feel bad for the rest of the county when we rise back to the top. We've got to carry on like the old days. It's a U thing. Always will be. Whoever doesn't like or approve of it can...

I loved the part about refusing to shake hands with opponents. I love it.

Two favorite quotes from the film:

"Florida State... was... a University of Miami wanna-be."
"I respected those guys (FSU) because they kept us on the schedule, unlike the Gators."

This is and always will be our state.

    He had serious shoulder problems.

He also had an achilles problem.

Had he not been injured so often...he would have had a similar career to Mike Alstott.

They also forgot to mention how Jimmy Johnson changed the game by converting Safeties to Linebackers and Linebackers to D-ends. Speed kills.

taken out of context, but it made me chuckle jmust a little! That show reminded me of how bad I hated/still hate UM. I was up at FSU in the late 80's/early 90's and remember that $hit. One year my buddies had to hold me back cause I was DRUUUUUUUNK and gonna jump the fence and rip the head off of that stupid bird! Back then Doak Campbell stadium was as big a dump as the Orange Bowl was. HAHA good times....I'm gonna sound like an old-timer when I say this but, you really can't appreciate that time if you weren't alive to experience it.

Awesome documentary, brought back a lot of good memories. One of my favorite bowl game's is still the Cotton Bowl against Texas. Lol, way too many penalties, and still beat the hell out of them. Hill scoring a td and running into the tunnel firing his pistols was pretty funny. Now you can't even hold your finger up in the air after scoring without getting a penalty. The :theu: sure made football fun to watch.

those were fun times, "wide Right"....:tongue2:

Heck, I never even knew the Canes were in the Big East until the mid 90's!

The ESPN Radio hacks were talking about this film, Cowhered said "It was vulgar, even worse than I remembered it being" Van Pelt said "Now I remember why I hated those Hurricane Teams, they were villians"

Those teams were soo over the top, man that was fun to watch then and even now.

TBH though, that was the first I'd heard of the embezzlement and steriods stuff, that was a new one on me.

It was all trumped up BS.

The media back then was in full court press mode to destroy the U...Including BS artist Dan leBatard.

The pell grant crap in the end was found to be about 220k worth of phoney loans in a matter of about 8 years. That is nothing.

Any university has vastly more financial fraud than that.

The steroids stuff was ONE GUY that got caught with it and he wasn;t even a player..he was some local workout guy...even then to save his neck...the best he could do was to say that he sold it to TWO UM players.

Those programs were cleaner than some of the CURRENT succesful ones....but you won't hear that in today's media.

Certainly crippled the program though, iirc in the mid 90's out of the blue I heard the program was suspended and it came out of left field, they lost a ton of scholarships and were getting spanked by Syracuse and I was like WTH?

Probably, Reggie Bush's momma still has that house and no one is calling for USC to fold their program.

College football has become a business, a big business, when the Canes were doing well the Bowl Checks were typically less than 1 million, now even the also ran BCS bowls pay out 10 million.

INOW, those players were doing those things simply because they liked to do them, and in that era self promotion had just really hit college football, Deon Sanders created "Primetime" to garner more attention and make more money, ditto Desmond Howard doing the Heisman pose, that is just how players got noticed in the media before the NFL Draft itself became a massive business.

Back then, if a player made a play the way to get it shown on ESPN was to then go over the top.

Jacory Harris was on QAM this morning and said he liked the film, he also has been hanging out at St Thomas football games doing some Ambassador type stuff, which is cool with me, that mutt Kiffin is busting his chops and violating every soft recruiting rule to try and sign some of those SFL players.

My Dad grew up playing soccer in Jamaica - same aura, same swagger. That's how it is. I was raised to play sports in the same manner as those 80s Canes teams. I love it.

Yep. Not only that but The U started pretty much every college football trend you see today. That's what our boys do. Trendsetters. That's why everyone wants to be like us, but they can't. So instead of giving credit where its due, they criticize. But we feed off that very well. This program always has.

That is his spin..always has been. "Oh...I just "reported" on the pay for play...."

he conveniently forgot his 45 columns in a row on the pell grant "scandal"..

at least he admits that Sports Illustrated's freak out was his fault.
