http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sfl-sparanoqa120709,0,1757072.story Kind of interesting, Wake sounds like the Dime rusher mostly, with JP/JT/Charlie Anderson as the OLB's, which to me kinda explains why Roth was let go. Who would Roth have replaced other than JT? He couldn't fillin for Joey Porter, meaning he was sort of a SOLB only who did not offer Wake's passrushing or Anderson's versatility. BTW, Jacksonville's weakest positions according to PFF is their Tackles, Eugene Monroe and Ebon Britton, this is another week where we should see pressure from the ends entering their Kitchen...
I hope this is the game we let Wake play more. I think he could get at least 3 sacks against those tackles.
I perused the Jags Oline stats: Ebon Britton has surrendered 4 sacks and 30 pressures Eugene Monroe has surrendered 7 sacks and 17 pressures By comparison: Jake Long 3 sacks and 4 pressures, 2 of those sacks came in the Falcons opener though Vern Carey 2 sacks and 9 pressures The one thing about the Jags is their Defensive front 7 is really quite good at stopping the run, not so good at pass rushing or stopping the pass.
they are different types of players ... i think Wake 'could' actually bring more to the table with some better technique and experience. granted they both are at their best using speed to get around the corner.
Thats great but we have to make sure to close the inside gaps, Gerrard is no slouch and can kill us with his legs taking off up the middle.
Thanks padre. After going to a pass first mentality against the pats, and it being successful, i could see us employing the same scheme on offense this week. Especially because most people analyzing the league still think were a run first team. They stack the box early and it should open things up for Henne to make some plays downfield early. Our tackles have played well in my opinion. I could see some stunts and corner blitzes on Garrard, not just our Dline pass rush. We need to contain him. His feet can beat us if we pressure, give up containment and he eludes the pressure. Not sure but a corner or safety blitz might help prevent him squeaking outside the hashmarks. It should be a similar situation to the Tampa game, execept they have a much more potent running game.
Well Freeney is basically an end who can pass rush as well as anyone in the league but he isn't really good for anything else. At this that's where Wake is at.
I may be crazy....but in obvious passing downs.... Why not put both Charlie Anderson and Thunder Wake in? Both are much faster, and quicker than JT or Peezy... When Charlie Anderson played last time for Peezy, I thought he had a hell of a game...
Because we will have to pressure up the middle in this game? Watching the Jags, they attack the edges with MJD and I'm not 100% that we need the two ends pinning their ears back and heading upfield. After Chris Johnson, MJD is probably the most explosive Rb in the league imho.
Yeh...but like I said....obvious passing downs....2nd and long..3rd and long...and then...why wouldnt you run a delayed blitz. Why not blitz both off the ends....and run a delayed bllitz with Wilson....on the draw..or the screen....the SS in this case is ghosting the RB MJD. I think you can cover the Jax WR's one on one with our CB's....
Per OmarK: I like what we did in the Bills games, pinch the DE's and have the DT's hold their ground and bullrush up the gut.
Wake reminds me of Trent Cole, only larger and more explosive, Freeney is far more polished than Cole or Wake, Dumervil is a better technician than either of those two so I'd put him ahead of them as well.
The real danger is that once the tackles give up pressure, Garrard starts to run around. DANGEROUS because Wake blows his position for contain on rushes on mobile QB's at times (see Bucs game). Even worse, if the ends pressure Garrad, he could scramble on and angle up the middle to either side of Soliai. I don;t think Soliai stays active enough through the end of long plays. That means his lazy *** is liable to get run right by on busted pass plays when our ends force Garrard to seek an escape route. A lot of this weekend's success is on the two interior guys on those passing downs. Hopefully Starks is one of those interior guys in a four front and Soliai doesn;t run out of gass. Or maybe it;ll be McDaniel.
Two players I'd love to see blitz a couple times (but no more than that) are Vontae Davis and Gibril wilson. Wilson has great timing, and Vontae's accelration and suddenness get him to the QB in a blink. Both have been successful blitzers. I'd add Culver, but I never see him on the field anymore. What gives?
