    Defensive Player of the Week

    Vontae Davis, CB, Miami.

With the Patriots up 21-19 and throwing into the end zone to ice the game with 9:45 to play, Davis, the feisty first-round rookie from Illinois, made a play he'll be telling his grandchildren about someday. He leaped with Randy Moss and picked off the pass, killing the drive and helping the Dolphins make a race of the AFC East again. "It's something I'll remember forever,'' said Davis. He added three tackles and another pass broken up, but it was the pick that led to a long and winding road to the game-winning field goal by Dan Carpenter.

it reminded my of the interception he got over moss in the first game. i think it was like the 3rd play of the game. moss reached for it, and davis jumped up and snatched it out from air in front of moss' face.

So in his first year he's picked Brady/Moss combo twice. I don't remember the last time if ever those two got picked on an endzone fade play.

Not to mention the game was on the line. That's the gamebreaker we need in the secondary. And Vontae fits this team perfectly. Doesn't quit or get down if he gets beat, he gets hungrier.

Another first round pick by this front office that is fitting in with this team and going to be a starter in this league for a long time.

couldn't agree more that play was the defensive play of the week, it may have saved our playoff hopes.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but for me it's hard to believe that out of every defensive player in the league, Vontae Davis had the most impact.

He was huge, no doubt....but he did get beat on a 70 yard touchdown on the 1st drive of the game.

But hey, whatever fills Vontae's head with confidence is a good thing, so bring on the praise.

Honestly...a horrible coverage play and a freakishly amazing catch by Moss aside, his coverage on Moss has been way above average. He has gotten a couple of ints against Moss and like I mentioned the TD's Moss had were on freak type plays. I can live with that.

    I was wrong about Vontae.

At this point he is much much better than Smith. Even though Davis gets burned he makes up for it Smith doesn't

your not gonna get flamed. He did technically get beat there. But watch the play again, its more so Gibrils fault than Vontae.

The safety is supposed to be the last line of defense, and when a CB knows he's got safety help, he generally tries to cut off the shorter stuff while the Safety is supposed to cut off the longer stuff.

As usual, our safety play let us down and gave up a big pass. If Gibril wasn't suckered into stepping forward for the double reverse, he'd have been in position to play moss deep. But he was suckered, and he wasn't in position.

Leaving it up to Vontae to try and win a foot race with Moss. Something nobody but maybe Ginn can do.

I haven't been this jazzed about the possibilities for our secondary in years.

People mention this often and actually I read on a post today. Yeremiah Bell, is unreal, the speed he has, if you look at the higlights he stopped Welker and then was the only one to even reach Aiken on that TD. He out runs both CB and is far behind both when he starts sprinting....

Davis was talking some smack to Brady in the 4th quarter yesterday and he definitely said something to Brady about picking him off two times.

Enjoyed that he went right up to Brady and talked some ****.

I can live without that kind of BS. Don't need another Porter on this team.

<shoulder shrug> I think Smith is play just as well as Davis. They just play different types of games. I love the physicallity that Davis brings to the table.... Smith seems to be in the right place a lot of the time. He is just not finishing the plays. Once he figures that out he is going to be a great CB.

I look forward to the day they both put it all together. That is going to be great for the Fins defense.
