Normally, I'm pretty good with this stuff, figuring it out, etc. but recently I bought a panasonic home theater system to go along with my panasonic 42" plasma. I hooked everything up according to directions, ran the test, and all was fine. When i go to play the sound from the TV to the system, there is nothing. I bought both HDMI and Optical cables and still doesn't work. I spent hours on the phone to product support, somewhere in Pakistan, i suppose, and none of them figure it out. I'm sure it's something a simple as the nose on my face but i don't see it. Anyone out there want to stab at it?? Thanks !!!
I've got no idea but with a 42'' flat screen and a home theater system that gathering of delaware dolphins fans might have to be at your place just kidding. best of luck setting it up.. i'm not so good with the home theater stuff
Just a guess off the top of my head maybe there's a button on your remote for the TV that you need to press that changes the sound settings to the theater system and not the TV speakers.
Hmmm, I dunno - I never go directly from the TV to the stereo. I always split or use alternate outputs from the cable box, computer, DVD players, etc to go into the stereo inputs. So your TV has audio outputs? What input are you looking at? If it's a cable box or something like that, you're better off using a digital coax or fiberoptic to send digital sound directly to the stereo. EDIT: Not sure if this from the FAQ helps or not.
check the settings on the TV's menu and make sure the line out you are using is activated. Also you may need to unlock your optical input on the receiver which would likely be in its Input options / settings. Good luck with it.
Are you sure you have audio out on your TV...... Everything should go thru your receiver with HDMI to the TV for Picture only. I install for a living....so try that. You shouldn't need optical cables as you already have HDMI. Additionally you should also run your DVD and xbox, pS3, etc thru your receiver. You should be able to setup you display names using the Panasonic remote so that it becomes as simple as labeling Satellite/CATV as such and DVD, Game etc. It keeps everything simple and you don't have to worry about multiple inputs into the TV and then having to remember what to change to watch what. The TV stays on one input. The switching is done thru your receiver....all the audio and all the video. Hope this helps
2socks said pretty much everything. Typically TVs don't have audio outs, and everything should be run through the receiver. I am guessing you got an HTiB and not a dedicated AVR as that (an HTiB) was the first thing I bought. Essentially though you should be running all of your inputs (dvd, cd, satellite, cable, etc) through the receiver and then have that output to your hdmi 1 input on your TV. If your receiver is unable to process audio and video from external inputs (which is completely possible), then it should at least be able to handle audio inputs. If that is the case you may need to utilize those optical cables as opposed to multiple HDMIs, however you would still use an HDMI cable from the receiver to your TV. If your receiver can at least has video passthrough, you'd still be good with the video via HDMI (still might need optical for sound though). It would be a lot easier for me to help if I knew what model HTiB you have, as well as all the components in your home theater as I could be more specific, but I am pretty sure the problem is you TV doesn't do audio out. Typically TVs only do audio out for over the air channels (if at all).
I have to make the switch within the TV settings. I go to audio and switch from TV to external speakers [surround sound], but nothing.
I have a mess of stuff. Cable, for basic networks with no box, Directv DVR for other programming, also a regular DVR to record from basic networks if need be and then finally, the home theater system. The cable goes to the DVR first so it's channels are not interferred with and then goes into the Directv DVR and then on into the TV. The home theater system is basically a stand alone system which only uses the TV for video and is hooked up accordingly. then from there, it should be a simple thing to hook the audio between the TV and theater system to play TV sound thru the surround system. I've had this set up before on older equipment and it worked fine. Right now, the speakers work fine with a CD or DVD in but the tV sound will not back feed thru the surround. There must be something simple, another configuration that I've not done yet. Thanks for the help tho!!
You need to run either optical or hdmi from the directtv dvr to the home theater system. That is the only way you'll get sound "from your tv" to the home theater system.
I have. I've run hdmi alone, optical alone and also both together. that's why I thinks there's some setting somewhere I don't have set right. Thanks!!
Not sure about your home theater setup - are you cycling through the aux inputs to find the one that the TV is supposed to be on (digital, hdmi, etc)?
My inputs source for the TV/Video lists as communications 1 & 2, the hdmi 1 & 2 and finally video 1 & 2 & 3. The regular DVR plays thru video 2, dvd thru video 1. The TV just stays in TV mode but when I switch from TV speakers [this in the TV setup] to home theater, there is no sound. I'm not in the "gotta have it now" mood as the TV sprs are OK. It's just that it would be nice to listen to the programs that are broadcast in dolby to be heard thru the surround sound tho.
TV is a PANASONIC TH-42PX60U Home theater system is a PANASONIC SC-PT670 hey, thanks for the help. Sooner or later, one of us will finally hit on something!!
I found the manuals in PDF files for your gear. 2socks was right, the best way is to run all your gears (DVD game sys etc) out puts to the receiver and use 1 HDMI out from the receiver to feed the TV HDMI 1.
Hit post by accident so adding more. if you have audio cables hooked to HDMI 1 audio in unplug them. Also check this in the HDMI settings of the receiver - "When using the HDMI connection, ensure that “AUDIO OUT” in the HDMI menu is set to “ON”. ( 29)". Hope this helps.
Thanks, I'll give that a whirl first chance I get and will let you know. Got a couple hectic days coming up.
