Please elaborate.... Lex Hilliard is already a factor for keeping a drive alive in the game Thursday night. He ran straight up the middle for 18 yards on 3rd and 16. A 12 yard gain, his first touch in the NFL was called back. Bill P and Jeff I have kept him around for a reason and it's not to play special teams. He is the future at running back.
I think the convetional set for the three is where its at, with that fullback, with that oline, and the old ricky williams, With lex poundin....sheeeee# There aint gonna be no kitty kitty no more.. Ricky runs behind a fullback very nicely... Just think about how hard ricky williams ran the ball the other nite and how many jaws polite slobbernocked...i'am tellin ya, defense's will not be happy playing these three in that conventional formation. On top of that, you have an oline thats out to prove that they are going to be the identity, and they dont want the wildcat as a crutch.
The guy sitting next to me at the game said, "I can't believe our D can't shut down a 2nd and 3rd string back". I just smiled and said Lex is actually our 4th string back. The look on his face was priceless.

Long time lurker here (closeted dolphins fan), with some thoughts on Hilliard. I am a huge Montana fan and watched him play during college. Great back who lacks the freaky top end speed of some NFL RB's, but is very good at making people miss and usually delivers a blow rather than receiving one. He looks like he has bulked up quite a bit since college, and maybe added some speed. Football skills aside, I can say that he is a very good guy. He volunteered at my son's Little Griz football camp and left a positive impression on the kids when he played college ball (As the starting RB for the team I really doubt it was a mandatory gig, since the other volunteer's were a long snapper and a punter if I recall correctly). Lex has some very good skills, and from what I take from talking with him and seeing him play and interact with kids, a lot of desire to succeed. I started following the Dolphin's again when they added Lex and Dan Carpenter (another very quality person) to the roster. My son and I went through the 0'fer season with the Dolphins, and still root for them and the Montana boys. I figure if Parcell's see's something he likes, that I trust his judgement (I think he is a great evaluator of talent). Hate to see Brown sidelined since he is such a talent, but love seeing Lex get the ball to showcase his own talents. *Your "ladies lounge" is awsome.
I sure do remember Rodney, but can see that much of a similarity tbh. A couple of other names from Dolphins lore that kind of popped into my head while watching Lex run, are Norm Bulaich and Don Nottingham.
I think Hampton was a bit taller? A guy named Earnest Jackson, led the AFC in rushing back in the day, 5'11 and maybe 220, but he had some wiggle in him running off tackle. Lexxy runs real low to the ground and "behind his pads" which to me simply means runs with good body lean forwards. And partial is right, if you watch the U of Montana video, Lexxy is more of a bernie parmalee type of back, in Miami he looks like he gained 15 pds or more and is now more of a power runner ala Alstott.
4.66 isn't fast, but 4.03 is. That's gettin somewhere quick, fast, and in a hurry!! A .63 second differential translates to some serious acceleration for his size.
Bringing this up again, perhaps seeing that Miami will likely only add say one RB possibly Jordan or Vereen. Hilliard's quickness and initial burst is very very fast. What they may rely on him to do this year is to play in a spread out system much like Woodhead does and instead of a pure quickness approach Hilliard will take advantage of undersized formations both as a pass catcher and a RB that can take 4-5 yards at least each carry. He can't play in a true I-Formation patience based running system like Ronnie loved. Hilliard however can get you that initial boom and short gain.
don't forget about the blazing speed of Kory Sheets, this season he returns healthy I see no problem in the backfield if the offensive line fix is in both Ricky & Ronnie have rubber left to burn return to the Orcas & the running game will reappear

Hilliard is probably gone: unless there are injuries. he plays special teams 1) they will retain either Ronnie or Ricky 2) DThomas is the power, everydown-type back 3) Polite returns (Hilliard as FB? no) 4) Kory returns (the healthy speedster) to the backfield & there is Cobb & we've picked up a FB in the draft
Hilliard will not be gone. RIcky and Ronnie are gone. Neither of those guys fit what this offense wants to do IMO.
Hilliard is gone...agree they will retain either Ricky or Ronnie...disagree I think you mean retrain...which still would do no good Thomas power every down back..disagree unless they decide to continue the wildcrap Has tall frame and needs to probably get stronger in the lower body. Doesn't really run behind his pads. Tends to try and juke and make guys miss rather than running over defenders. Isn't really a threat to run over most NFL defenders, whether it's linebackers or safeties. Will stop his feet upon contact and doesn't do a good job finishing runs. Needs to improve his ball security as he doesn't position it against his body when he gets out in the open field. Kory returns...disagree 2 GAMES IN 2 YEARS More delicate than Swarovski Crystal
Boomer told me Lex Hilliard's ceiling was Patrick Cobbs when I joined the site. That was a big battle. Now he matters. It is still about developing this guy Boom!
He's more of the guy you want if we're throwing in any zone blocking concepts or using a single back in spread formations. He's more decisive of a runner; his acceleration/burst will better then theirs; he's good at finding cutback lanes, planting his foot, and taking off. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised what Lex gives us compared to R&R of 2010. He can kind of do it all-- run, block, catch...... and if we can get him the ball in space with all these guys on the field he's gonna be a load to bring down (especially since he hits top speed rather quickly).
