Yes. This is an attempt to shift blame and make the man responsible for the single mother's situation.

The truth is that the only person that put her in that situation is her. She chose to have pre-marital sex with a douchebag. She chose to go down that path.

And now that she's there, her child suffers because of it.

Meh, that goes both ways though. I'm sure you've known kids growing up that would've been much better off if one of the parents were out of the picture.

Me personally, I was glad my parents got divorced when they did. Kids don't need to hear/see certain things growing up. Maybe some single mothers leave the father for what's best for the child.

If a woman makes a poor choice in getting pregnant by a douche bag, should she compound the issue by marrying said douche bag? Furthermore, is she marries a douche bag and gets pregnant does that make the situation any better?

Maybe so. Maybe vice-versa. But at least in that situation, the father is still in the picture, and sees his kids on a regular basis.

My thing is that if you're stupid enough to have a child out of wedlock with a douchebag who abandons you, you aren't a "brave, strong woman". You're an idiot who should be ashamed of yourself.

Maybe. But remember there is a difference between a stupid person and a stupid decision.

And maybe I'm new school, but marriage to me is highly overrated. Especially when you consider more then 50% end up in divorce. But that's a topic for a different thread I suppose.

Marriage might be overrated, but at at least there was one point in time the couple was comitted to each other, and wanted to have kids together. More often than not, couples have kids and the marriage falls apart afterward. So the father has lived with the children and experienced being a dad to them.

To me, I would think that the father would be far less likely to abandon his kid(s) coming out of that type of situation, becuase there is an unwritten obligation to STAY being a dad.

With a woman who he isn't married to, a guy can just bail without ever seeing his kid for one second. It's not as hard to throw away that which you never had...

Who should that apply to? Anyone? Or just people who disagree with your point?

    Live from the Internet.
I learned a lot in this thread.
I'm not talking about the subject that is being discussed, I learned some things about people who post here.
Some of the opinions and posts that I have seen here, caused me to re-think of of what I think about the posters and not value their opinion on any subject the way i did before.,
    Shame.

As a taxpayer that pays for the existence of the military i think we have the right to offer our opinion on what should happen. If our opinion don't mean squat then why do we give our money to the armed forces.
