I would like him to be in coaching but he seems to be ok just being the backup as long as he could stay in Miami. He should be the assistant QB coach or something. Maybe take his job and be the QB coach. I don't know....
I think he's the perfect number 2 quarterback, maybe number 3. He can't play above average, but he brings alot to the team in regards to professionalism, and leadership. Keep him here, have him as the number 3 QB, and if theres an injury during a game use him. If theres a long term injury, go week by week. I have faith in his decision making, and that breeds faith in his arm. He was never a downfield threat, so this should only affect his gameplans slightly.
This staff should make up one of those coaching positions to get Pennington on the staff. IIRC, Nick Saban did some of that and ended up with a HUGE staff. I'd do it just to keep Pennington around.
Just throwing this out there, but what if??? Pennington signs as a coach, then if something detrimental happens, we re-sign him as a player coming out of retirement. Is that even possible???
That's pretty cool that he loves being down in Miami enough to be willing to stay on as a backup. There's plenty of veteran qb's that would go anywhere as long as they didn't have to stand on the sidelines. I hope he sticks around.
id love it if Pennington stayed on as a back up for as long as he could still play. he was good enough to get us a division title. he may not have the big arm, but he moved our weak offense down the field pretty consistently and reliably. face it. anyone else as a back up may be able to throw farther then Pennington. but i doubt any would run our offense more smoothly.
I too hope if he doesn't retire he stays as a backup or if he does as a part of the coaching staff. I just really like the energy and leadership he brings to the team. Plus it is good for Henne to keep his mentor around,I like the help Pennington brings to Henne still with helping study game film and stuff.
