Positives: -Chad Henne is solid. He still has some learning but Dolfans no longer need to lose any sleep at QB. At least for now. -Pat White and the option. No, it's not trickery or the "wildpat", it's the option and he did a good job. Will it work even better in the future? Who knows, but it should scare opponents. -Camarillo has the best hands on the team, we need to throw to him more. -We lost, but by 10 points[really 7, there was NOT 1 second left at the end of the half, when it hit his hands it was at 1 second, stopped it early] against an amazing team, in New England, after the bye week. -Rookies Smith and Davis did a good job. Davis stole that ball from a future hall of famer, with another future hall of famer throwing it. He's only 21. Negatives: -Pass rush did not do well, and Porter was non-existant, he had 0's across the board. -Running game was nothing special, needs to get going again. -WR-obvious. But Where was Hartline, if he is our #1 WR we have to throw to him more. He dropped one, but had another for 18 yards. We wont know if he is a great WR unless we get the ball to him more. This is our main glaring issue, and hopefully they go after someone aggressively. The Pats got Moss in 2007, we should do something similar. You can't become an elite team through the draft alone, a big FA move in the offseason is key. That's not for a while though. Hopefully we can make the playoffs with what we have, I think we can, our run game needs to turn it on for that to happen.
Vontae has been very impressive and he has come through in the clutch for us. Hell even on that play where he got hurt he helped knock the ball out of Moss' hands.
-lack of deep ball -lack of exotic blitzes -getting too cute is it just me or henne is reluctant to throw the deep ball? it seems like everytime he does a play action, he throws the ball to davone bess or to the tight end. Its not that thats a bad thing but IMO we need to be more explosive and one way to do that is to atleast try to throw the ball deep. also i think we should do more screen plays.. TE screen or RB screen. Forget the screen to Bess. Bess is no Welker. my 2 cents
i remember reading rumors last off season about the phins getting miles austin or anquan boldin. id love either one of those two right now. if we got both, id probably faint.
Dallas probably will do everything to keep Miles Austin. I wish though! And Boldin and Arizona are on the outs big time, maybe we can get him. We should. I don't even know why they still have him. They don't like each other, and they have Fitzgerald. He said in the past he'd like to play for the Phins.
Boldin, the guy who is ALWAYS hurt? He's as talented as they come, but he often has nagging injuries. He's def. not in the mold of a guys BP likes.
Porter broke through a double team and forced Brady's errant pass on a key drive at the beginning, he wasn't totally non-existant. I also noticed the lack of deep looks. I kept my eye on Ginn when he is in, and he is clearly a decoy as Henne immediately looks to the short route first and then throws it.
It wouldn't hurt the deep route if there was an open receiver there to throw to. Seriously, I agree that we need to look down the field more often, but most of our WR's don't have the speed needed to be really effective on those routes, and Henne has frequently not been getting the time to let the deep play develop. He is looking short an awful lot, but I have a lot of faith that he's doing it because the deep routes are covered and not just out of habit.
two really good questions to ask @ this point are: 1) why is the game being so poorly manged? 2) why are all our receivers suddenly dropping the ball?
At this point, I'd prefer Vincent Jackson to Boldin. Boldin can't stay healthy and Jackson will be a FA after this year.
Im all over the BUY a wide out position. So many busts in the NFL from the draft. When you have the opportunity to BUY a AAA STUD do it...
I agree on picking up Boldin, would make a nice addition, but the fact that we don't utilize our good receivers already kind of makes that a non-issue, in my opinion. Camarillo barely ever sees the ball, yet every time it hits him he makes the play. I can't figure it out. Hartline looks good but he dropped a key pass, which was a hard to catch ball maybe, but you still need to catch them. Also, Henne goes to Bess so often it's too easy to read. If he spread it out more it might open up the field a little bit, allowing a bigger passing game (Which is all we need in my opinon to turn these Ls into Ws.)
We need to make a hard run at Vincent Jackson this offseason. I don't know how realistic stealing him from the Chargers would be, but he could do for us what Plaxico did for the Giants(hopefully minus the gun).
We can blame Cameron for the WR situation. He gave away Wes Welker for a 2 and 7. One of those picks is no longer even in the NFL. The other is not nearly as good as Welker is.
Welker couldn't be a #1 for us, and CAM and Hartline can be just as good -- especially Hartline with some good coaching. i was against the Vincent Jackson signing earlier ... and still hedge on it a bit -- as i'd like to see what Turner can bring to the table .... personally, i think they'll end up being a lot alike. regardless, neither would be capable of being a #1 ... get a dominant WR, and put Turner/Jackson next to him along with Hartline and CAM and you would see us moving the chains consistently .... i guess that means we'll have interest in 2 SD players .... as i have Merriman down as a PHIN for next year to solve our OLB position and impact player needs ....
Time to get Wake a lot more playing time. Time to see what we have in Turner. Time to put Ginn on punts. Porter and Taylor are obviously not the future. So, time to upset the apple cart once again.
I know welker wouldn't be #1, he is the best slot receiver in the NFL though. Also, Antonio Bryant will be a FA in the offseason. We'll see him this weekend. I doubt that one will happen though, Parcells and him got in an argument, but hopefully they'd be able to bury that. Whatever, we need someone.
Unfortunately, you're probably right. I wouldn't let him walk unless he was asking too much money. And if that was the case, I wouldn't want him here either.
I agree a big time WR is a must and Vincent Jackson would be great if we could land him but IDK if SD lets that happen. That way we wouldnt have to deal with all the men in the box against us bc no team in this league is going to respect Hartline, Bess, Ginn, Camirillo. And if we get a WR in FA we can use our draftpicks on LBs and safties!
Please do not sign boldin I love the guy but he is injury prone.I am like you I love jackson but I am pretty sure the chargers will resign him.Anybody know who else is going to be out there at wr next year?
Get this, courtesy of Big O: The Dolphins WR's have scored 2 Touchdown's in the 4th quarter through our first 8 games this season. Chris Chambers scored 2 TDs in the 4th quarter alone yesterday for the Chiefs. I know, we couldnt get him anyway since the Chiefs claimed him off waivers. However, do you honestly think we would have if we had the chance to? I hope it was a slap in the face to our front office that Chris Chambers is better then any of our WRs. Now, hopefully they will be aggressive in getting one this offseason. You have to be aggressive off the field to be successful also, the Pats were aggressive and got Moss in 2007. Wonder why they always win? When was the last time Miami got a big name either through Free Agency or through a trade? JT this offseason is different since he was pretty much a dolphin the whole time, that doesnt really count. Seriously when was it? Porter in 2007? This offseason is the Perfect time for us to finally make a splash.
