Please forgive if this is something that has already been addressed/discussed, but I was really disappointed with the lack of pressure we put on Brady today.

To me, that was the key to the game. And, it seemed like he had all day to to throw most of the game. Did we even blitz? Sure didn't look like it. Looked like we rushed 3/4 and played with max protect for the most part.

I know it's always a risky proposition, but daggummit...you can't give a guy like Brady (with all those weapons) that kind of time and expect to win...can you? :dunno:

Yeah I didn't check the stats but I just remember one sack and the rest of the time Brady seemed to have a good deal of time to throw it. Brady always finds way to get rid of the ball whenever we get close to a sack....I didn't see/hear JT or Porter's name much as far as tackling or pressuring Brady. It just seemed like we were staying with the Pats most of the game but they always seem to win the close games. We have to make sure we play smart football for 60 minutes and capatilize on our chances. I think we got a little conservative at the end and I didn't like that we decided not to go for it on 4th and 4 on the Patriots side of the field late in the game. I think they team played hard but it still sucks losing.

Most of the time we only rushed 3 or 4. Even we did blitz it didnt matter because the middle of the field was W I D E open. Seriously Pasq should be fired tomorrow morning. We've been getting boned up the middle of the field all year and no adjustments have been made. It's pathetic to say the least.

He had all day today. Our secondary did a good job today, but you can't stay with the receivers for that long a time.

I know Wake had a sack and I think Starks, but Brady was not flustered all game.

We did blitz, but the blitz doesn't work that great against this offense. The misconception of why the Jets beat the Patriots isn't because they disguised their blitz package. They did a great job of disguising where their rushers were coming from, but rarely did they bring more than 5...except in the case they had advantages in down in distance...which you saw us do (for example the 3rd and 11 they got on the Welker crossing route where Gibril Wilson almost got him).

I was saying all week that the key to the game wouldn't be how our DBs played but moreso how much pressure we got on Brady. The key to beating the Patriots has always been that--getting pressure by your front 4, 5 at the most. It was the key to our success against him and with other teams that effectively beat them. We didn't get that today--by a long shot.

The problem with blitzing, is their offense is predicated on a short-medium range passing game. Early on they took shots deep on single coverage, but saw we were up to the challenge, they made the adjustment to stick to their bread and butter. It's hard to get them in an advantageous down and distance for us becuase they dink and dunk the hell outta you from shotgun where it's basically impossible to not only get pressure but stop them for anything less than 5 yards.

That's why I say, it just isn't a good matchup for us. We need some sort of rush presence up the middle to make stepping up in the pocket tough for Brady, where he most uncomfortable doing with pressure.

I disagree. We just don't have the personnel yet to be able to "handle" that offense. I emphasize the word handle, because we're capable of hanging around to win the ball game, but not to handle them the way we did in the past.

The Patriots offense has changed as such they line up in shotgun and use a short-medium passing game to beat you. They rarely run the ball and use screens as their run game.

We've done a lot by getting a big CB, and getting edge rushers. Where we need to get better is in the interior--ILB, DT, and other presences to get an interior pass rush.

Paul Pasqualoni did an OK job today. The only quandary I have with today was why in the hell we didn't have an safety over the top on the Moss TD. I mean Moss made one heckuva play, a HOF play, but I still feel like we should have had someone bracketing that guy at all times--even if Welker had a good game.

I disagree. Pasq didn't do an ok job today. The fact that this team has been abysmal guarding the middle of the field all year long with no changes being made is reason alone to fire this idiot. All season long we've been abysmal guarding screens, no changes made. All season long we haven't been able to generate a pass rush, no changes made. You'd think we'd see more Wake, I mean the only thing he ever does when he comes in the game is get pressure, no reason why we would need that ability... Pasq is a horrible DC, no way around it imo.

Our young DB's did pretty well against the firepower that the Pats have. I think we should be proud of the young players we have. The vets pretty much got it handed to them today on D.

I think they realized they couldn't blitz because they were so spread out and IIRC, NE had four WR sets often but I may be wrong on that. What I was wondering was how come they didn't run a 3-3-5? I recall seeing it once I think and that was it. I would have used it more.

We did that last year. Welker torched us in the first half while we bracketed Moss almost exclusively. Then in the second half we had a 30/70 mix of bracketing Moss and he torched us. It's a simple read for Brady and it's a bad idea for us.

Take a look at the variety of defense we played. Take a look at the position we found ourselves in at the 4 minute mark in the fourth quarter. It's 24-17 with 4 minutes to go. After floundering on offense for what seems to be the entire game, the Dolphins have the ball with a chance to score. Defense did not lose this game. Wildcat did not lose this game.

The fact that we have no receiver (except Camarillo) that seems to WANT the ball is all to prevalent in every game. Now I'm not suggesting we go out and use a high draft pick on a receiver. That has proved futile for too many teams (including us) already. I'm simply suggesting we find a guy with some speed that can actually catch the damn ball. Save the high draft pick for a Middle linebacker.

Once again, I will show the variety of defense we placed on the field. The sad thing is that it must come from "Brady Highlights".

Let me get this off my chest first. The Patriots came out with a game plan to neutralize the pass rush. It is evident in all the bunch, motion, TE, and backs left in to block the perimeter of the Dolphins defense. For all the clamouring to bring in Cameron Wake, the fact is that he would hardly ever see a clean angle to rush the passer. As a matter of fact, no Dolphin DEs or OLBs would hardly ever see a clean angle to stick their hand in the dirt and sprint upfield. That was the game plan. There isn't much the defense can do about it OTHER than blitz the interior. The fact is that Brady had all day because the Patriots bet was our 5 or 6 in the secondary could not cover their 3 or 4 receivers.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d8140826b/WK-9-Tom-Brady-highlights

00:15 It's 1st and 10 at the 43. It's a good down for the offense to run or pass. They take the gamble.

The defensive formation is a simple 43 under. The back is on the right side of Brady to block the angle JT has on the passer. On the strong side one TE is in a two yard split off the tackle. Yet another TE is in the slot. The two TE set dictates that this a power running formation and it's played as such. Notice there is no clean angle to Tom Brady - NONE! Now count them. That is 7 blocking 4. Seven players are left in the secondary and they should be able to cover the 3 receivers ALL DAY. If the Dolphins made this offensive play call, I would suggest that Dolfans would be crucifying Dan Henning. Yet the Patriots almost pull it off. They almost pull it off because they have RANDY MOSS.

On the replay you can see the coverage call. Freeze the video at 00:44. It's a cover 3. Damn! Could the defensive coordinator put the players in a better position to make a play? And we finally see a player making a play.

00:57 2nd and 1 at our 37. You want to talk about a "pick 'em". The offensive coordinator could close his eyes and drop a pencil on the playcall sheet. Whatever the pencil points to, call it.

It looks like JP has a clean angle from the edge. Watch the motion. Nope! Sorry JP. No clean angle for you. What's on the other side? A back left in to protect from JT. This is a concerted effort to protect Tom Brady. The plus side for the defense is once the receivers are compact, it takes time for the receiver routes to develop. The motion man (88) has essentially become a 4th option in the play progression. Virtually every linebacker must clear out for him (88) to come open. The down side of this play call is that the 3 remaining receivers on the perimeter must get open.

Again it appears that we are in an UNDER front. The alignment is played based upon the ball on the hash mark. You can see all 11 defenders so it appears as though we are in straight man to man assignments.

The motion man chips JP. The back blocks the blitzer outside JT. This is 3 receivers versus four defenders. Pressure has to come up the middle. It's what everyone is calling for. Do we get it? Nope! That's six rushers versus six blockers gentlemen. And just in case you missed the replay, Wes Welker was open too.

1:36 Good old fashioned football formation. We have a split end, a tight end, and a wing. The defense appears to be playing a base 3-4 alignment with the linebackers shifted to the strength. Power football? Well I can you now (1:37) that the two linebackers on the strongside are blitzing. So at the very least, that's five rushing the passer.

No free release for the weakside end. Nope! He had to play run first. There was certainly no free release for anyone on the strongside.

Now this has all the appearances of a weakside rotation in coverage. Culver is too far towards Randy Moss' side for it not to be. But then again look at the way Culver addresses Smith. And that's another safety (Bell) back there making the tackle. Once you account for Davis on Moss you then see that this was 4 in the secondary. Which leads me to believe that this was a MAN assignment for Smith. With two safeties behind Smith and Davis, that tells me that this was Cover 2 MAN.

Now c'mon with it all you defensive coordinators. You covered two receivers with 4 defensive backs. The offense just gained 15 yards with one of the two receivers. You fault a coordinator for this?

1:48 This is looking like some sort of zone blitz. The defense has been a part of some sort of muddle huddle. I'm not even going to attempt to tell you how they aligned. I can tell you this about the offense though - they are still in an alignment to protect Brady.

There is a TE on the right side of the offense. On the left side, they have bunched the receivers and the back remains. This is still primarily a three receiver set. The TE on the right is an afterthought if we get pressure on the passer and it appears as though we have dialed up some heavy pressure on the TE side.

Now I'm a little league football coach and I seldom ever pass. But I can tell you the first thing that a receiver will do when he recognizes the blitz on his side is break off his called route to something short. Ben Watson runs to the sticks. That's all he wanted. And our boneheaded rookie gave him a 7 yard cushion to run exactly what he wanted. Do you honestly think this was the defensive coordinators call? Is this the execution he desired on this play? Or is the rookie so spooked by having to cover Moss all day that he gave a FREAKING TIGHT END a 7 yard cushion when they needed 4 yards to convert a 3rd down?

1:55 Hey! I see quarter, quarter, half coverage. I see four rushing four on the right side of the defense. I like it. I like it. We're rushing five and we have the triple receiver set zoned off with everybody's eyes in the backfield. You can't help but make a defensive play with this call. Uh, I guess not...........

Now for those of you watching at home if you are a big guy like Jason Taylor, you DO NOT let the crosser (Welker) across the field before you KNOCK HIM ON HIS ARSE.......

But walk through the rest of quarter, quarter, half with me.

Something is wrong here. The middle should not be vacated. If I had my guess (53) was only suppose to draw the block by being aligned there. Then he should drop into his middle zone. It is there that he picks up the first crosser through his zone (Welker). Now if you follow (29) from the play start you will see him frozen in time. He's taking away the Post from the backside (half) receiver. So this pass is completed. It's completed late but it is completed square in the middle of (53) and (29) zones. IF played correctly by the defense, Brady just threw the ball to Torbor.

..................I don't too much care to continue doing this. I'm only to the middle portion of the 2nd quarter and I have seen nothing in the form of bad calls or missed calls by the defensive coordinator. This is the second week in a row that I've seen people calling for the defensive coordinators head. This is the second week in a row that I seen the offense executing and the defense NOT executing. Wake up people. The accusations have no foundation.

I agree with you on most of this.It comes down to the pats play mass protection and we can not cover anybody in the middle of the field but pressure has been a problem all year not just in this game.
We need more talent at Ilb and wide receiver if we are going to compete with the elite teams next year.People need to understand this game was a bad matchup for us.My prediction for the game was 38 -10.
I think we win are next 3 games but do not get to excited if we do.This team has to many flaws to really compete with the big dogs.

While I do at times disagree with the actual play calling, I don't think you can blame the poor execution on the field by the players on the scheme. We get torched in the middle of the field by TEs and short crossing routes because our LB's aren't good in coverage, something that I expect will be addressed in next year's draft.

How come no one ever calls out Sparano. I mean yea, he did do some good things since he got here but he has made his share of bone-headed moves. Like last year, when Sparano told Joey Porter to come out and Porter ignored the head coach, he should have put his foot down and benched him the following game. Now this year, Porter is almost non-existant, supposedly because he is playing hurt. Well Sparano, sit him then. I've said it all year long, all the opponent has to do is an inside route or any type of play designed for the middle and they will be successful all day. Come on now, out in bars and with friends, we defend the Dolphins, but here, the die-hard fans, lets just be honest and discuss our problems without bias.

What in the hell does Sparano's relationship with Porter have to do with anything? Have you ever coached or played the game? It's a game of emotion. I had three 13 years arguing with each other coming back off the field when a kickoff was returned for a TD. If a camera would have been placed on me you would have seen:

"GET OFF THE FIELD!!!!" then you would have seen me speaking to the LAST talker. "HEY, HEY, HEY......YOU PLAY. WE WILL COACH!"

None of which mattered to a hill of beans. All three of the boys were on the opposite side of the field where the ball was run back. They had nothing to do with the play.

Anyone ever tell you that you ramble? What does last year have to do with this year?

Is Porter hurt or is he in pain? I would venture to say that every player including the benchwarmer feels some sort of pain at this point in the season. If Porter was INJURED, he would be sitting as has already been the case in previous games. Do you watch the games? Do you know how often Porter was actually IN the game versus the Patriots? I watched the game. It was not until I reviewed the highlights of the game that I realized how often Porter was NOT in the game.............and when he was in the game, the Patriots chipped and doubled him on passing plays. What do you want him to do? Do you want him to take out three Patriots per play?

What does this have to do with Porter? If it's not about Porter or if it's not about Sparano's leadership - why is it in the same finger pointing paragraph?

    Bias....... Okay, no bias.

Your team was 1-15 two years ago and the head coach was fired.

Last year the sun, the moon, and the stars aligned for your team to win their division.

This year the sun, the moon, and the stars are not aligning. The FACT is your team is TWO front office controlled offseasons from a no-talent roster.

If that wasn't sobering enough finformation let us not forget where YOUR team is losing. Your team is losing to a combined record of 33-8. For those of you playing at home, this means that your Miami Dolphins are losing to opponents who have a 76% winning percentage.

Now I combine the facts listed above and I find no reason to fire Tony Sparano. You go ahead though. Fire him all you want.
