Damn. Did you hear Greg Hardy has been declared 100% fit for the first time in a year? Pretty ridiculous IMO. EDIT:
I like the idea of drafting Blount in the 6th or 7th round. We have three 6th round picks and two 7th round picks. Hell we recently cut Shawn Murphy and we traded up in the 4th round to get him. If Blount turns out to be great or even very good then Ireland would look like a genius.
Gotta tell you. I been watching the East Carolina/ Va Tech game and there are some football players playing in this one. The battle between LOT Ed Wang and DE CJ Wilson is worth the price of admission alone. Also LOG Sergio Render vs DT Jay Ross is pretty enjoyable. Here are some quick thoughts on some of the players Ive sen in one half of football East Carolina DE C.J. Wilson - This guy is fun to watch. Someone is going to get a good foiotball player when they draft him. Might be too big for 3-4 OLB and too small for 3-4 DE but looks like a player. FS Von Eskridge - Not sure he has the speed but I think this guy would be a great 6th or 7th round draft pick. Great football instincts and nice toughness. Could be another SS in the pros and obviously we dont need those but a nice footabll player LOG Terrance Campbell - Big boy, Not as tough as I would like but big. Another interesting 3rd day prospect WR Dwayne Harris - seems to get open alot. wonder what he would look like with better QB. Not sure he has the speed to get excited about but nice player. He's a junior so probably a 2011 pick Virginia Tech Wang, Render and Warren are all nice players on the oline and Worilds looks interesting on Dline
Jay Ross I watched earlier this year and wasn't too impressed. He struggled to shed blocks and struggled at the point of attack but did run well laterally and showed some quickness off the line. IIRC, he played some 2 tech as well as 1. True, we'll see how far he slips though because from what I know, he's had work ethic issues and has showed up late to team meetings in the past.
I'm finishing up watching Bowling Green and Buffalo here and a trio of players stand out. The big one that many have been talking about is Freddie Barnes, the WR of BGSU and he doesn't look bad. He's got quick feet and very good hands. However, it's clear that he doesn't have great foot speed because he's had some trouble separating in this game, specifically the first half. He ran a few go routes and the cornerbacks were stuck on his hip pocket. Later, the BGSU coaches started to call shallow crosses to get him open and going and that's where most of his receptions came from. He doesn't have several moves at the LOS to create some separation from press coverage, which bothers me a bit. He's got one and when it's neutralized, he keeps going to it or he simply tries to outrun the DB but it doesn't work out too well. One thing that he does do well however is find the soft spot of the defense and it makes me wonder about him as a slot receiver. Moving on, I know people have been watching Naaman Roosevelt of Buffalo mostly but Brett Hamlin impresses me. He's about 6'0, 190 and he's got some Brian Hartline in him IMO. He runs quality routes (shows good sharpness), he's not the fastest guy off the LOS nor does he have elite foot speed but his route running helps him get open. He can make some good catches and he catches with his arms extended and uses his hands. One thing that I really liked from him is that he's very aware of where he's on the field. Whether he's working the sideline or he's working the soft spot of the defense, he knows where everything is and he can make some good sideline grabs. When it comes to run blocking, he does a good job of mirroring the defender but doesn't necessarily do a great job of sustaining his blocks. He doesn't have great strength and should pick up his intensity IMO. Last, the one guy that really impressed me and is one of my sleeper late round DB's is Kendrick Hawkins, the Buffalo CB. He's had some injury issues in the past - missed 5 games last year because of a foot injury, got a concussion this year and had a small but not significant knee injury - but he's got some talent IMO. Goes about 5'10 - 5'11", 190 pounds but don't let that fool you; he's pretty physical. He'll play bump and run, and he will put a good jam on you, he'll play the run, he'll play side saddle technique and he'll play press-bail cover. He's got a smooth backpedal - looks natural IMO, shows a good closing burst and I think he's got good foot speed. He can play man coverage. When he covered Barnes, I recall seeing Barnes only catch one pass and that was because Hawkins was playing a deep zone and allowed the underneath catch. He may not get drafted or he could in teh later rounds but I like him. I think he's one of those late round guys that has some potential and could be a contributor at the next level if he stays in one piece. Just some late round guys. * I also wanted to add that the Buffalo QB has some very nice athleticism and the BGSU QB - Sheehan I think? - is very erratic with his accuracy but also made some nice the throws.
ross is definitely a horizontal tackle as opposed to a vertical tackle there's a place for those types however. why its a good battle is because Render is a bit overhyped IMO.
Why not? Who else is gonna take the team picture? Brent Musberger: "Miami's massive Wang was draped all over Brady's tight end on that play folks!...leaving no room to even squeeze a ball in there." Or..... "If Sanchez keeps takin a pounding from Miami's Wang like that, his *** is gonna be hurtin tomorrow!". "Wang went to Fagg instead and really confused Bush with his signals".
Yeah.... I agree. Some how the thought of a Long Brown Wang with a Smiley should be strictly reserved for the 49ers.
On second thought.... I guess that depends on whether or not he was Brown before he entered the hole.
It's like a madlibber's dream. My friend was _____ when _____ _____ helped his _____ _____ turn _____ in the middle of a _____. My friend was smiley when polite Thomas helped his long wang turn brown in the middle of a grove.
WOW. Did anyone see that TD catch by TE/FB/H-Back Dennis Morris over Kyle Wilson? That was Andre Johnson sick. Man. If he can run fast and do that more often, sign me up.
I had visions of the Prothro catch and the Andre Johnson catch that he had against us down in Miami last year. Kyle Wilson never looked back for the ball. Seriously though if Morris is a guy that can be split out wide against one of the best corners in the country and make a play like that in the end zone, he's worth a look. Nice little pancake too of a late round DE draft prospect, Winterswyk.
Dennis Morris really had a nice game. Kyle Wilson is pretty good as a CB prospect so it says alot that he was able to do that aginst him. Another guy that had a nice game was Titus Young. He's a junior but if he comes out early would definitely be worth a look as a WR
As far as corners go I'm still a big Ghee guy but if Ras-I Dowling comes out, he is the first corner drafted. Posted via Mobile Device
MOre thoughts on today...Orlando Franklin is still the best guard I have seen in college this year, Pitt is showing why I disagree with folks about Arthur Jones being potentially a nose as they are moving him off the ball easily with double teams, but he does penetrate well and he can beat single blocks so I still like him at 3-4 DE, Greg Romeus is for real, and if Jimmy Graham sticks with football he will be an excellent TE. Have the Iowa-Northwestern game taping. Can't wait to see the matchup for Wootton, im a big fan. Posted via Mobile Device
I like how Greg Romeus is quick to reposition his hands, reset and move onto his second and third moves once he's been defeated initially. He's a stud, love him. I haven't seen any of Corey Wootton's game but I have a feeling he might be the best straight up DE in this draft, from what I've seen prior to today.
My biggest issue with Jones that I've seen is that he spends quite a bit of time on the ground. I watched him against Cincinnati and it seemed like every series, he was on the ground at least once.
Iam on the record before the season started that Jimmy claussen is horribly overrated, and charlie weiss will lose his job because he attached himself to a qb that has severe weaknesses. Well, as this season transpired, all i heard from draftniks was that he was a sure fire first rounder, and how he's in the hunt for the heisman, and i heard out of mel kipers mouth, that hes top 2 in the running to be the #1 qb taken, and should be considered first overall.. LOL....well, after todays loss, case closed.. The kid cannot survey the field, cannot process information fast enough, doesnt have the gun that people think, is terrible at evading the rush, and flat out picks up stats because he drops back and launches the deep ball with his eyes closed. I'll tell ya what will happen...Claussen will show well at the combine in shorts. Some scouts are not seing what i am, all they see is the deep out thrown with a tight spiral, and the long ball which has nice trajectory, and some other surface level talents..those qualities are perhaps all the kids got..bottom line...i would'nt draft him with a 7th round pick, unless all defenses in the nfl sign a contract that they will play a prevent defense the entire game against him.. Please come out Jimmy, pretty please... I just hope the bills take him with their first round draft pick..lol....the dude has been a bust since he came out of high scool with all his accolades.
I was hoping to get a guru's opinion on ILB Jamary Chaney Mississippi State. Hes from my high school and graduated the same year as me
Jimmy Clausen has not done enough to convince me. To me he has Trent Edwards written all over him. Christian Ponder or Sam Bradford may be the best draft eligible QB out there right now but it's clear to me that the best draft ineligible QB out there is Andrew Luck of Stanford. He also just had the best single game pro-compatible performance of any QB I have seen this season. A long time ago when Bradford was a frosh I talked about how he'd be the top QB taken one day...well I'm telling you now Luck is a frosh and he will absolutely be the top QB taken one day. Ridiculously complete performance for a redshirt freshman.
Yup, both are very good players. Odrick almost went pro after last season. Too bad no one is as talented on the PSU OL.
Pete, Odrick had his way with Ohio St's line Boren did pretty good but for the most part he was very disruptive. Heyward played out of his mind today.
Spiller had 622 yards vs UM & FSU.... in case anyone was wondering He was the first on the field after the game to greet Bowden.... and when Erin Andrews asked him what he would like the country to come away with thinking after seeing his performance, CJ said he would want people to see how much passion he plays with. Total class act.
Hmmm.... question: If John Holmes wasn't dead and his dangler was draft elligible, would it make for a good NT?... bc it was notorious for clogging holes from what I hear. That might be a formidable match-up against the Long-Wang duo.
Cj spiller has a legitimate chance to be the first offensive skill position player taken, dez is his only comp...... top 10 player... Suh is a freak.. Their both complete and dominating football players....no need for specifics, they do everything exceptional.
