Apparently a local police officer shot Nadil.

The odd thing about military bases is the vast majority of firearms on base are locked away, typically the only armed people are base security.

Any one venture to take a guess at the ramifications this will cause?

At first blush USArmy, I'd say very little to nothing at all.

I'd bet they draw up a profile, but this is not the first time such a thing has happened and there is really little way to keep it from happening.

I am wondering if the other suspects were under his command? Usaully, if I remember correctly, Major's serve on staff for higher ranking officers. I wonder if he commanded a unit? And add to that his age. I wonder if he was prior enlisted before earning his commision or just came into the military later on in his life.

I am not so sure, there is already a deep distrust of Muslims with in the Military. Now there will be the suspicion factor.

AP is now reporting Hasan was a "mental health professional" on base.

    It's getting darker....

    I wonder...

When this first broke for some reason the connection it made in my mind almost immediately was to this incident, in which a Seattle Police Officer was killed by a gunman who just drove up in a car and opened fire, for no apparent reason.

It followed an incident in which a police van and 3 other vehicles were torched.

Here's an excerpt from a report subsequent to the Officer's shooting:

Is it possible we're seeing an organized wave of retaliatory violence from American Muslims?

Sure, but there will be no official actions that can be taken.

During the Cold War there was a saying:

"You can keep the KGB away from the President, but you cannot keep the FBI away from the President".

Meaning the Military needs Muslims for everything from translators to soldiers.

It's a horrible sad thing. I served with a few Muslim sailors who were some of the most dedicated people to ever serve. After 9/11 everyone treated them like 2nd rate servicemen and its bull****. It got to the point where bar brawls were breaking out in the base bars. A few people with jacked up views make some completely senseless decisions, and every Muslim servicemen gets a crappy rep.

This is just awful, I feel horribly for the families of those soldiers. Killed by their own for no purpose or purpose of a political statement that could only hurt them in the long run.

    I guess it all depends on how you define crazy;

    cra⋅zy
[krey-zee] Show IPA adjective, -zi⋅er, -zi⋅est, noun, plural -zies.
    –adjective
    1. mentally deranged; demented; insane. NOPE
    2. senseless; impractical; totally unsound: a crazy scheme. YES
    3. Informal. intensely enthusiastic; passionately excited: crazy about baseball. NOPE
    4. Informal. very enamored or infatuated (usually fol. by about): He was crazy about her. NOPE
    5. Informal. intensely anxious or eager; impatient: I'm crazy to try those new skis. NOPE
    6. Informal. unusual; bizarre; singular: She always wears a crazy hat. NOPE
    7. Slang. wonderful; excellent; perfect: That's crazy, man, crazy. NOPE
    8. likely to break or fall to pieces. NOPE
    9. weak, infirm, or sickly. NOPE
    10. having an unusual, unexpected, or random quality, behavior, result, pattern, etc.: a crazy reel that spins in either direction. YES
Do I think he was mentally ill, no I don’t! I think he was a religious fanatic and will give him no pass or excuse. He killed those he had sworn to lead and protect. He knew exactly what he was doing, it was cold and calculated.

by that definition no spree killer is crazy. I find that hard to believe. you can be calculating and still be crazy, just like you can be cold. It does not render you sane.
I am not making an excuse, just saying there is no reason to try to understand his motives, as obviously he is no where near sane enough to have come up with a motive we sane people would understand.

I just want to add, there is a huge difference between being crazy, and having crazy beliefs.
