I posted this in another thread that is now buried

It has been said time and again by Sparano that it's more of a numbers game. For Turner to start seeing playing time he has to play on special teams. According to Sparano Turner is able to perform 2 of the 4 aspects (something along those lines) of special teams well. He also stated that is improving in the other areas and is practicing better as well. In fact he had one of his best weeks of practice around the bye. The reason Hartline was able to see time quicker was because he was competent in all areas. With that covered he could slowly be worked in the game and it was then that Brian proved what he could do. Remember only a few weeks ago Hartline only saw a few plays against buffalo and now he's playing a lot more. Until Turner can do all the little things exceptionally well he will be buried under the depth chart due to all the WR's we have. Depending on how the Ginn situation is handled by the coaches Turner may or may not see the field.

If Miami only plays their 4.6ish receivers then won't opponents bring their safety or safeties up into the box to stuff the run?

If nothing else, doesn't the 4.3 guy keep the safeties back?

While speed is great what about technique getting off the line. Hartline may not be the fastest but can utilize great technique to get separation. Here's Hartline's draft analysis from nfl.com

Positives: Good height and an athletic frame. Good initial quickness off the snap. Better football player than overall athlete. Does a lot of the little things well. Reliable route-runner. Lacks elite burst out of his snaps, but runs them with precision. Good body lean and utilizes head fakes and varying speeds to help generate separation. Good hands. Tough. Will take a big hit and hang on to the ball. Good downfield blocker. Stalks defenders at the second level and can supply a big hit. Experienced special teams player.

Negatives: Lacks the eye-popping athleticism to offer much upside. Doesn't have the straight-line speed to challenge over the top. Lacks burst out of his breaks. Generally reliable hands, but has some ugly drops when he's trying to make a move on the defender before securing the pass.

What I think the bold statements summarize to is this. Brian's never going to be able to blow past a guy like Ted did on Revis against the Jets. He doesn't have the. But but running great routes and utilize his other skills he can still get really good separation which I think we've seen. So speed is important but it's not everything. Look at Ted for example last game. Mandich and Duper were saying he was severely rounding out his routes, which would allow the coverage man to stay stride for stride with him. Even with all that speed Ted can still be covered tightly because of his poor route running.
