Has anyone been following this? I was looking at it a year ago and again a few months ago... Now that Batman has come and gone, it's quickly made it to the top of my new game wish list. It's being called am FPS/RPG. Looks freaking awesome to me. Here's a developer interview with some great insight on the game.

Thanks to Phin o Rama for pointing it out today via evil IMs, but Borderlands leaked today. As did FIFA10 NTSC. Good times, good talk.

I dont even know where to begin with this. It's one part FPS, one part RPG, one part MMO and 100% awesome. This game will probably not sell the amount of units it worth. It's what Planet Side should have played like. Granted, it's not an MMO - It's capped at 4 players. But the game, the world, and the quests are huge. The spec system rules. The weapons kick ***. The looting kicks ***.... The Tarentino-ish presentation is very cool as well. My main gripes is:

    1. Lack of a looting system in mutiplayer. Worked fine playing with my buddy, but I can imagine going into XBL for help with a boss or something, and the douche runs in and snatches all of the good loot. No bueno.

    2. Lack of true character customization (visually). Once you pick a class, your look is picked. You change his (or her) color and gear. That's it. There should be more visual freedom.

    3. Some quests are labeled "Normal" difficulty, and it's just plain hard. Similar to World of Warcraft, the quests have level recommendations as a color classifications Green is easy or normal, yellow is tough, orange is hard, and red is impossible. Normal quests should be beatable with relative challenge. Some are normal like they should be... Some are absurdly hard. Maybe they're looking for the "team" element, wanting me to invite XBL buddies to help... But then the quest should be labeled as such. I'm being picky.

    The game kicks ***.

Planetside is still alive and relatively well. I think is THE most unique and underrated MMO ever.. even in its current situation. I am glad that games are somewhat starting to emulate it because there is NOTHING like Planetside out.

It has a story, but it's broken up a lot. If you need to be hand held via a story line, this isn't the game for you.

so how linear is this game? I want to like it, but after watching a few videos I'm not sold on it.... should I just wait and get my kill and loot fix from Diablo 3 or something?

It's like a non MMO... MMO. It's a very hard game to classify. I love it. It has the grind (kill n loot) from diablo, a story telling style like Fallout (not as good as Fallout though), and the quest/spec system of WOW. It borrows a lot from WOW actually. It's clearly designed to be played with buddies, and is much more fun that way. But the majority of time I play alone just waiting for that next purple Sniper Rifle to drop. The gear has a color class like in WOW:

White - The item is normal
Green - The item is good
Blue - The item is rare
Purple - The item is Epic
Orange - The item is one of a kind

Again, I really dig it. It gives that satisfaction of getting awesome gear without having to put in years of your life that WOW asks for.

It sounds awesome, I'm just worried I won't like another post apocolyptic game after Fallout 3....is there an exploration aspect?

It's not as post apocolyptic as the video seems. It's more like Wild West meets Pirates. If that makes sense, i dunno. You can explore and find great stuff. But if you stray too far, high level mobs show no mercy. A 3 level difference in this game almost mean certain death. Levels are such huge jumps it's amazing.

It doesn't affect anything. I use to play games like GTA openly when my kids were one and two. They don't notice. Unless an obscenity is shouted every two seconds they won't remember anything. You should take advantage because when he gets to be 6 or 7 you really won't be able to play when he's up.

yeah, I'm loving it right now. Only made it to lvl 20 so far but I wish there was a place to stash things. I was playing with some buddies who were a few levels higher than me and pulled a whole bunch of stuff I can't use until lvl 24, so like 3 of my slots a taken with useless stuff right now

Truth. If i could add any feature on a patch or addon, it'd be a bank to stash crap and a proper looting system. The current system is fine if you're with a friend or someone who likes to make crap fair.... but if you're joining random groups on XBL, whoever is the closest can just grab whatever they want.

the game is great. Ive sunk a large amount of time into it. But i gotta say im getting to the point where i want some storyline.

i realize this is entirely a gamers game, but games like fallout and mass effect still reign supreme over something like this because they provide the addicting nature of grinding with an overall story.

Speaking of fallout, man was that a good move changing the art style to cel-shading. this game would have looked exactly like a poor fallout if it had tried for the realistic graphics.

I hopped in a buddies game last night to help out with sledge... he was a lvl 14 and I was lvl 26. He drops the gate, I drop the scorpion turret thinking it will keep his health up, I then fire an elecric rocket at Sledge to drop his shields so my buddy can mop up. The turret fires one burst and it kills Sledge. I felt like a total douche, but we both laughed pretty hard since it was like the shortest boss battle ever, literally like 1 1/2 seconds

the key to killing him is having the machine gun car and getting the turret locked on, then you just drive around and hold the trigger, just takes a couple minutes and is pretty painless

so I don't know if you guys are like me, but I'm super obsessed about equipment spec and just read some stuff that ticks me off a bit. Apperently there are up to 5 lines of bonuses that can be included on equipment.....FIVE. As you are probabably aware, the console versions only show 4 lines. That means all my stuff potentially has hidden stuff that I don't know what does and it's driving me crazy when I go to see what stuff is better. There is a PC fix that I can track down if anyone cares, apprently you can go into the code and change the font down to size 8 and it will show everything fine, but this really irks me that I can't do anything about it so now I spend even more time trying to figure out hidden stuff; especially since there is no modified accuracy, recoil, damage, or fire rate number you can compare anything to

I have been playing this quite a bit lately(just got it about a week ago) and am up to level 23. Its ten times the fun playing with people you know(xbox live was a mess trying to play it like that)...I got my brother on there the other day and we played all the way through till he reached level 17..I was 22 at the time... I heard the new DLC is really good with an insane boss, new guns, and enemies. I'm hearing its about 10 hours of play, so I will most likely get it once I complete it. Anyone get the General Knox?
