If you thought the receiving corps scared no one before, wait until Ginn's gone. Then there would be absolutely zero threat of anybody getting downfield. It's bad enough we lost David Martin. You lose Ginn and the defense single up outside and bring the safety down permanently. The Dolphins might not 'love' Ginn right now, but they like him a whole lot. He might not be an elite receiver, but he's quite valuable to the Dolphins in 2009 because he's the only guy that scares a defense. Darren Sharper will know exactly where he is on Sunday. Ginn will likely return kicks as well. Trade makes no sense right now. Somebody would have to blow Miami away with an offer. Again, he is more valuable to Miami right now than probably any other team. I, for one, would like to see if he and Henne can hook up some more. Ginn has been getting open deep for 2 years. Now we've got a guy who can get it to him. I think the receivers might start flashing a bit more with Henne. I think someone like Greg Camarillo would be more likely to go as part of a deal, be it for a pick or part of a package. I like Camarillo though and hope he stays. I think he's starting to get back from that ACL right about now.
Unless we have a replacement lined up (Bowe) then trading him makes no sense, and Im not a Ginn fan. He is the only deep threat we have right now. While I feel hes never going to be a #1 or even a #2, hes can be an effective situational player. Personally, I really wish we had gone out and drafted more speed in the draft (Johnny Knox anyone?) than another pair of plodders in Hartline and Turner.
Yeah, 'Nando is offbase on that one, what possible reason would there to be to trade Ginn for a 3rd or 4th rd pick? If they brought Hartline up to take his Wr spot, then you've traded Ginn for Hartline and replaced Hartline's draft pick, in essence creating a push. Ditto Pat Turner, "Oh we traded Ginn for a third round pick because Hartline can go deep and keep the safeties honest"? Randy Mueller might have made that trade.
I could see Cam pushing Baltimore for him. But I cant see us doing the trade unless we get a replacement. Maybe a team lacking speed like the 49ers could be interested as well, but they wouldnt pay much at all for him.
I doubt the Dolphins would be interested in trading Ginn, espcially since Sparano says that he loves the team that he has. I don't believe he sees a need for it.
I file this under "Rumors with nothing to back them up at all". No chance this happens at all unless someone throws first rounders at us.
We finally get a QB who can take advantage of what Ginn brings and the media, used loosely, of course has nothing better to do but write about trading him. Maybe you should write a column which focuses on reality.
are you kidding? After that bomb on monday night last week, ginns value skyrocketed. We don't have ginn, we don't beat the jets. Its that simple. If we're to have any chance the rest of the season, we're going to need a wr who can get behind the defense. Or at least threaten to. Cam and Bess simply cannot do that. They play very well within 20 yards but they have nothing when they get to the 2nd level.
If Sheets is a good KR and somehow we were to get Bowe, why would we need Ginn? I think Ginn is a goner at the right price. I kind of think the Bills and Jeffs phones have been pretty busy today and well be tomorrow.
We'd have to be blown away with an offer. Ginn is nearly as important to us as Brown. Without Ginn, there is NO ONE to stretch the defense. Why would Camarillo, Bess, and Hartline scare defenses? They won't. No way around this one, but if we trade Ginn... it's going to hinder our offense this year.
Sheets has not returned a kick for us... how can you say this at all? And if we brought in Bowe... we wouldn't need Sheets because Ginn could return kicks again... because the pressure on Ginn would lessen for him at the wide receiver position...
How so? Bess would be the odd man out because he is the only receiver with real value on the team. Bowe, Ginn, Cam, Hartline, and Turner.
In 1996, Jimmy Johnson let 3 of our best D players walk. Guess what JJ did? He built a great D without those guys. Losing Ginn might hurt a little right now, but in the long run, we could be better. It's a chance that I'd take. Remember this is only year 2 of the rebuilding process the the big 3. I think the big 3 are more worried about building a team that can win a championship next year than teasing us in year 2.
There isnt much on him now. Hes being molded into a situational role player. One that does serve a very valuable need for us right now and whom I cant see any reason to trade at this juncture without getting a replacement. Sheets has potential, but until we can see him actually return some kicks, thats all it is.
i don't know why he would be a goner. he's cheap and hes a good reciever. It would have to be a good deal for them to trade ginn, otherwise why not keep he and bowe, and have a better corp then with bowe, cam, and bess.
Because he's returned 1 kick in his entire NFL career, and that's counting preseason... Or wait, maybe it's because he's logged so many games on an active roster in the NFL... No, it's got to be because we want to strengthen a position on our team, then immediately help negate much of the boost it would give us (referring to adding Bowe then trading Ginn). The great thing about trading for Bowe is that he could be a real #1 for us, and allow Ginn to move to a #2 spot where he should get more opportunities in single coverage, as well as allowing him to be used on ST (at least at times). It would be almost stupid to get Bowe and then trade Ginn.
At the right price, sure, why not? We need a good WR, we don't have any at this time. All we have are average 2's and 3's.
Well we don't have much time to trade for Bowe, trade away Ginn, and figure out IF Sheets can be a good KR.
Spped and the deep ball are important if we want this offense to be dangerous, ginn is excellent at both. Ginn has the talent to be doubled and henne has the arm to stretch him....our run game is gonna get even better now watch.
Nope. Not gonna happen. Get rid of him and then what? We still won't have a #1 WR. At least Ginn can be a deep threat, and is fast. He might work well with Henne, we'll see.
Wow, I'm amazed that anyone would think we actually would do that. Maybe if we're 0-5 right now and looking to the draft, but we're still in the playoff race, and like Ginn or not he's not the kind of player you just toss out for a single draft pick. It's a pretty widely agreed upon consensus that the kid has talent, and needs to line up opposite a #1 receiver, and he'll be dangerous. We're a team full of #3 receivers, and a #2 guy. We lose Ginn, and we're a team full of #3 receivers. We DEFINITELY won't get a good evaluation of Henne this year if we lose Ginn. And we're certainly not going to gain anything from it. Is Ginn on the trade block after the season? Maybe. I don't like it, I think he's got a spot in this offense, but there are very few people on this team that are given the inexpendable tag. Anyways, the rumors are flaring up with only a few hours left to go. Lets see them lay to rest and get on with our season.
Almost stupid? In your sentence, I'd replace 'almost' with 'completely'. Why not just trade for Bowe, throw in Turner as part of the trade, or if the Chiefs don't want him, cut him. With Bowe and Ginn together, we'd be stronger at WR and not need to draft one next year.
See this is what we call 'short sighted'. If we got another good WR that means teams don't roll coverage to Ginn all the time. Which means a lot more single coverage or another safety out of the box. I do not think there is anyone out there that wouldn't want to see Ginn in single coverage on a regular basis.
