He's a quality returner. Watch him in the Senior Bowl return kickoffs. He's got some explosiveness and hits the hole fast. I know SF wanted to keep him because he looked good in the pre-season but they couldn't get rid of Glenn Coffee after spending a pretty high pick on him.
If Ginn can start to consistently catch passes like that TD last night I agree. Put that boy in a glass bubble and keep him away from KRs. If not though, I would much rather see him be the man to take them. If our Special Teams can get a few key blocks in he can wrack up some serious yardage. I think this will be a good pickup, this team has great success picking, and grooming RBs
our return game is a failure more because of blocking than the skill of the returner IMO. Cobbs rarely got to the 20 without having to avoid at least 1 tackler
Here is what's being said on a 49ers MB about the Sheets pickup: Is this true? Maybe someone here can confirm. The ongoing sentiment is that the fans really like this guy. ____________________ Size: 5'11/208 40 Time:4.47 (3rd overall for RBs at this year's combine) Bench Press: 15 (near the bottom) 3-cone drill: 7.18 (shows footwork/"shiftiness". Was mid-bottom in that category) 20-yard shuttle: 4.39 (mid-bottom) http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/kory-sheets?id=80684 ____________________ [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gMwSSLrzSg"]YouTube - Kory Sheets Highlights[/ame] Watching the vid, it seems like the guy has superb balance. He runs north and south. At 2:26, you can watch the play where he breaks the ankles of a defender. Seems like a decent pickup.
I dunno. Cobbs wasn't even getting to the 15 I believe with the last two returns, or close to it. Ginn goes in and gets us to the 30 with what looks like almost no effort.
this could be a great pickup. he clocked a sub 4.40 time, he has jukes and can return kicks. I think he may become a serious weapon in the wildcat. And having a guy who can run sub 4.4 makes him a 3rd down threat out of the backfield in a standard formation. I am rarely psyched by these types of pickups but this one could be gold
Where did you read this? He was a 4.47 at the NFL combine. Looking at his vid, he does not look like a sub 4.4 guy.
To answer your earlier question Colmax. He has to be placed on the 53 man roster for the rest of the year. He cannot be on the practice squad. However he does not have to be an active player for the games. Only 45 players are allowed to be "active" on gameday. So he can be among those 8 "inactive" players. Inactive players cannot enter the game. Unless they are entering as the emergency 3rd QB.
That must've been before the "official" results. I remember way back when, they unofficially clocked Patrick Willis at the combine at 4.39. Then the official time came out to be something like a 4.47. Looking at his video, he's definitely not a blazer. No doubt he has some speed, but average tailback speed, IMO. I'm excited to see him play. BTW, is it true that he has to be placed on our 53-man roster because we signed him off of their PS? Read that at the 49ers MB. **EDIT** Thanks guys for answering the question!
If this kid shows something on returns then I doubt you will see Ginn back there anymore, other than the fake hand off stuff. They'll be concerned with keeping Ginns legs fresh for them long bombs from Henne
Everyone is dying to see Ginn on KR. The Big O was ripping Miami for not having him back there, but if Ginn gets hurt on a KR Henne only deep threat gets hurt.
Better to go down playing your position rather than KR. Giants lost their best CB that year. We dont need to lose the only receiver with speed
I think the chances of that happening are literally 1%. There was a statistic around here that said so.
Because getting injured on your job is inevitable. Getting injured say, while going to get your boss coffee sucks.
Looks like a decent pickup to replace Cobbs on the 53 man roster. I hope either he or Hilliard can take Cobbs place in the Wildcat, he played a big role in it. As for KR, I'd rather we keep Ginn back there, but if Sheets really is a good KR, then it's worth a shot I reckon.
i wouldnt mind seeing this kid on returns and seeing hilliard on the field getting a hand off once in a while. i only see hilliard on the field the 9 out of 10 times he seems to be the first guy hitting a kick returner.
EXCELLENT!! Love this guy... (GM LEAGUE GUYS WILL SUPPORT ME ON THIS, SINCE I DRAFTED HIM IN THE FIFTH ROUND IIRC). Explosive / scat back type. He was one of my favorite backs in the draft. IMO, a lot like LeSean McCoy in Philly. The knock though is that he was not supportive of his Purdue quarterback back in college and was reprimanded by the coach. But his speed will fit in immediately on this team. He will make an impact in the return game immediately. This is one of those acorns...
Seeing that you seem to be very knowledgeable on Sheets. How is his blocking? Watching Cobbs he has become a real unsung hero with blocking in this overloaded wildcat we have gravitated to. I remember liking how he played at Purdue, but never gave him a real analysis other then he seemed to be able to carry the team, and break big plays. The character issues are why I never figured him to become a Dolphin.
That possibility is still there, but why double the possibility by making him run KR/PRs back too? You take a lot more hits, and risk taking hits from 2, 3, 4 guys at once on returns. On a catch it's typically him, the CB, and maybe the safeties. I think the point is for someone who is arguably (and I use that word loosely) our #1 receiver, we shouldn't add additional risk of injury to him. Put in someone who takes less snaps, and is less integral to the offense.
third fastest RB @ combine excellent speed & balance got a nose for the end zone & has played extensively in the spread offense Miami is the Mecca of young RB's could develop into someting nice has he ever played WR?
