Casserly says we made an offer for Edwards

Not sure what we offered but I would imagine the price was steeper then...

 

i remember someone on this site saying the browns wanted Ronnie or 1st rd pick back in the summer

 

supposedly they wanted Brown for Edwards, that would have been a moronic trade.

 

Now that we have Henne who can utilize Ted's strenghts we don't need one yet. And the way this offense runs the ball, the last thing we need is a proven wideout who has a high percentage chance of complaining if they don't get the ball enough.

Our wideouts might not be the most relevant for fantasy football, but they truely are there to contribute where the team needs them and winning is far more important than individual accolades.

If were going to get that big wideout, i would prefer it comes in the draft. I'll take the team first mentality and keep our picks anyday of the week. This team can score on some good D's without the "media" wideout that everyone is convinced we need to score points.

What we needed was the thought that we can and WILL go deep on your team if you load the box. Henne and Ginn proved to me last night we now have that.

 

Yeah. Looking at what Ronnie has meant to our offense so far, I just can't imagine that Edwards would have made as much of a contribution.
Maybe there's an argument to be made in there somewhere.....but I don't see it.
If he continues the way he's started out; at the end of the year he'll probably be our team MVP, go to the Pro Bowl and maybe be named to the All Pro team.

 

What you saw last night wasn't an example of having a red zone threat, or someone that can go up and fight for a ball. Like Edwards did.....

Having a big, physical playmaker would do nothing but benefit Ginn.....and give Henne a weapon he could use to his advantage.

That "media" wideout is real......and we're a team that could put one to good use.

 

And to think, there were ppl who wanted Edwards instead of Ronnie back then. Glad Satan got it right.

 

Back then? I remember 2 years ago people griping about that. If you were starting a football team today and had to choose between Ronnie or Braylon, I think Brown is the no-brainer.

 

Now whether or not he pans out remains to be seen, but I think that's what Turner was drafted to be.

 

I guess i'm not saying we couldn't use one. I'm more questioning the timing and method to get one. The idea of trading resources for one that comes with caution flags with most diva wideouts IMO is not the best way to go about it.

As for timing, we can score points on the ground and have some various options with sure handed wideouts and some big bodied TE's who have proven they can get open in the endzone.

Just because we don't have the corner fade route to use that can be so dangerous in the red zone doesn't mean we can't score in other ways.

It would no doubt benefit Ted, Chad and our offense. But in my opinion there are better ways and a better time to adress it. You try and get one right now, when there is VERY limited supply, get ready to pay through the teeth.

This offseason there should be better options especially when it wouldn't cost nearly as much. My best thought would be to target a FA, so all your giving up is $$, or take one early (round 1/2) in the draft, after our FO has interviewed and get the guy they want for their team.

 

Maybe....but personally I think there's a better chance that Turner ends up being another Derek Hagan. And I'd rather not have to wait 3 years to find out.

We could put a big, physical red zone threat to use right now....you add a guy like that to this team and it improves our entire WR unit, not to mention our young, promising QB.

 

I voted no, but if we could given up Camarillo, a no name, a 3 and a 5, I would have done it in a second.

 

If they wanted to trade him for a 3rd and a 5th during the offseason, then yes.

Or for the Pat White pick if Miami for sure could get Sean Smith.

Not for Ronnie Brown or for how much they wanted during the offseason

 

The 3rd and 5th alone I'd consider. But no way do we trade Camarillo. He came up on Monday for us for a few good catches, and aside from Bess proves often to be a good workhorse.

That being said though, if we do pick up a big stud WR, it's going to likely be him, Bess, or Hartline that gets the bump, and with Hartine being a rookie I doubt that.

Maybe it wouldn't have been such a bad deal.

I'll reserve my opinions on Edwards though until I can see him consistently play. All that talk of dropped balls with the Browns concerns me.

 

I'll take Matt Jones for free over Braylon. Our offense isn't focused on the passing game so we can get away with a middle of the road #1 reciever

 

Well, to become a Championship type team we WILL need a true #1. I'm glad we didn't get Edwards, but you can bet this offseason we'll be adding one whether it's through the draft, FA, or trade.
