http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/4221/wake-has-eye-opening-day-for-dolphins I hope Wake's emergence means Joey Porter has a chance to recover from that hamstring tweak, moving into the bye week JP being able to rest and the Defense not losing anything performance wise would be boon to us. Well, JT and JP watching Wake and laughing about the days when they had that good cartilage in their knees is sort of funny...
Padre baskin in all his glory..love it man.. Also like the way he handled himself in the post interview's...very humble cat.
Milk it milk it for all that it is worth Dj... To be honest, JT's performance impressed me as much as Wake's did Dj, JT makes sacks and tips passes based on his knowledge/anticipation of the what the Offense's habits are, so it normally takes him some time to warm up and start getting those sacks and TFL's, to see him moving like he did so early in the year is heartening. The old Dog still has alot of bite left in him.
No but we will face the Jets twice in the near future. I think it is fair to say that Wake has nailed down the nickel rushing DE role.
The point I was trying to make was... Wake had a great day, but it was against the backups of the worst OL in the league. I'll pop a bottle of champagne when Wake can do that against a good offensive line. The same goes for the whole team. I really enjoyed that win, but I'm not going to get excited again until the Phins can whoop a good team... like the one we'll face Monday night.
No Champagne until we are at least at .500, but I'd guess we both have seen the backups come in and play better then one would think they could. The Jets game will be one heck of a test for Wake and JT for that matter. Have to stop the bleeding first LL, JP will be on the field for that game I'd bet, and the Jets are the 27th ranked passing offense, despite the Nacho Sanchez hype, Thomas Jones is averaging less than 4ypc as well.
I'm not worried about their offense. I'm worried about their defense... and their head coach, who was the defensive coordinator of the team that stomped the crap out of our offense twice last season. Remember the Wildcat vs the Ravens? A rookie QB on one side... a QB with one start on his resume on the other... which defense will take the most advantage? Our running game might be the difference... or maybe theirs... it's going to be a VERY interesting matchup. We win that game, and I'll start to believe again.
True, but do consider we were without our starting guards. Yeah, two very very green Qb's will lineup behind center on MNF, I don't expect there to be alot of scoring... We have to split the next two games at least, winning both would be ideal but the Jets and Saints are two hot teams right now.
Even if we did have our starting guards, the Ravens were the better team. They still would've killed us. Oddly enough... I'm more worried about the Jets than the Saints. A good defense scares me. The only offense that has scared me so far this season is ours.
This is interesting about Wake's time in the CFL and why his game improved so much over his time at Penn State: That two yard difference between the CFL tackle's set up and what Wake saw at PSU forced him to work on explosiveness which changed his career around.
No doubt about it. That formation has looked great so far this season. No doubt it's better than last season... when it was very good. However, I haven't seen us run it against a defense with a particularly strong front 7. Hey... I'm a big fan of the smash-mouth style, so I'm loving our running game right now. I just want to see us run it consistently against a stout defense. Then I'll drink the koolaid.
Somewhat true, the Falcons and Colts D's are more designed to play with a lead, the chargers are all banged up, and the Bills..well.. This will be our chance, the Jets run blitz constantly, we run the ball constantly, the #1 rush offense meets the #5 Defense. BTW, I checked out the game highlights on nflrecutter and what stuck out to me besides how well Wake and Taylor play together is "why" they play well together. Wake draws the double team, JT is man on man blocked, JP back into the mix and our passrush will see an even larger upgrade, that should take some heat off of Wilson and Bell.
i see no reason why all three cant be on the field in nickel and dime situations, especially considering that wake is now pretty much an undersized a Def end.
He did play standing up some on Sunday, and that third passrusher is huge, now both ends of the offensive formation can be threatened and one side overloaded by a quality passrusher. Wake at LDE, Taylor at RDE, Porter can stand up next to either end and face single blocking, they can be mixed and matched like that now, which also helps Merling and Starks face single blocking.
I remember the offensive line being dominated by the Ravens. I do not care what formation is ran, if the offensive line gets dominated running is impossible.
I'm 32 and have almost no more cartilage left. I can't play basketball like I used to. So all you under 30s, you better look after your knees.
our next 4 games are brutal with NYJ, NO, NYJ, NE .... and we need to come out of this no worse than 2-2 ... 3-1 preferred in order to be .500 at half way point ... we will definately know where we stand after week 8 ...
for playoffs we basically have to sweep the division. one down five to go. we can beat the jets though it wont be easy. patriots....dont know yet but at least Henne, Hartline, Vontae and Sean Smith are gaining valuable experience before they face them
I don't think that is so Adamp, we can split and win out and finish 9-7/10-6, Our last 7 games we only face two teams with currently winning records the Pats and the Steelers, the rest are really bad teams: Tampa, Carolina, Buffalo, Jacksonville, Houston, Tennessee, this 4 game stretch could more or less make or break out season, if we split these next 4, we could go on a nice winning streak with Jacksonville being a key game. I will say this, the next 4 games we will see what Chad Henne is made of, Jets, Saints, Jets, Pats is one heck of a hard run of games for a newbie Qb.
I wouldn't classify the teams above I bolded as 'really bad'. Jacksonville and Houston each have some serious weapons on offense. I wouldn't say we're clearly better than either one of them, as they are both fully capable of beating us. Houston has owned us, by the way. As far as the Titans... well, let's just say I think they might be the best 0-4 team in league history. They could straighten up and go on a roll at any time. They did have a 13-3 record last season. Their coaching is top-notch. Don't act shocked when they beat a good team and slowly climb their way back to respectability.
Jacksonville has been reduced to second and third stringers on their Oline, Houston simply cannot play defense...period.. And we owned the Chargers for 15 yrs until this past game. I don't think so LL, Jeff Fischer is one of the best coaches in the NFL however like happened to Shula in his last 20 yrs, namely taking a season on the chin, is what is in store for the Titans imho, Collins has been ineffective and Young is a trainwreck and Mawae is done as a starting Center, their Wr are youngish, and losing Haynesworth has hurt the defense along with Kearse just getting old. And their secondary is a shambles. Ditto Carolina, Delhomme is awful this year and lacking a quality NT has just ruined their defense.
Padre .... agree on the next 4 games determining the fate of this season ... with an emphasis on these next 2 at home -- its nice to have the bye in between to give Henne some more reps before NO. any hopes of a postseason is predicated on a minimum of 2-2 ... we could go 4-2 in the DIV and go 6-4 against the rest and still make it.
how to get them on the field @ the same time? that is the question the Triad of Terror: Porter, Taylor & Wake
No disrespect Padre, but you were impressed by Wake's performance because.......he had 2 sacks or for other reasons???? Reason I ask is in my opinion it is a little early to jump to conclusions that Wake is a certified stud. He did play against Scott, who was out of football for much of 2008. Scott was also playing out of position at left tackle for Demetrius Bell. Bell is injured. Playing in Scott’s right tackle spot was Chambers. Chambers is third on the Bills depth chart behind Scott and Brad Butler. Brad Butler blew out his knee in the second Week. Given the fact that these guys haven't worked together and are basically 3rd stringers on most teams......I am not overly excited. Though I love the work JT and Wake put in, and am excited to see what the future holds!!!! New Orleans got 3 sacks on these guys last week. So its not surprising that JT and Wake had 5 sacks given the circumstances. In fact what is even more surprising is they didn't have more then they did. Two studs would be certifiable awesome.
Because Wake made the most of his opportunity to play, if he had 1/2 sack or had been a non factor, eh, Charlie Anderson can do that, Wake got his sacks when the game mattered. As for the talent he faced, consider that Jared Allen had 4 sacks on MNF against the Packers 3rd string LT...haven't heard a bit of static about that level of competition. Jets gave up 4 sacks to the Saints...the same Saints who only had 3 against the Bills... I expect Wake will be doubled when he is playing the Nickel Rush DE slot he shined in, but that just means JT and Starks and Merling have more chances to get some. A diversion, but the one thing to keep in mind about players who can speed rush but also who are powerful, they will get sacks...sooner or later, a player who can move at a 4.5 40 facing a player who runs a 5.3, sooner or later, that .8tenths of a second will mean sacks are coming as most Qb's get the ball off in 2 seconds, maybe three, the De is 8 yds away from the pocket, maybe less. 8 yds to cover/4.5 40/ the player should cover that distance in 1.18 seconds, sooner or later that 1.2 second difference means a sack is on the way.
Here's a tip for those with bad knees: Every pound you lose takes 4 pounds of pressure off your knees.
One thing this FO is good at is finding undrafted diamonds in the rough. I love it! Bess is our #1 WR in my mind. i can't believe he wasn't drafted. We're yet to see if Wake is our best pass rusher. He made a pretty convincing case against the bills. Hopefully Wake will get a chance to do the same and/or better against the Jets.
it will come to pass, eventually, that Cameron Wake is the Sucessor to Joey Porter in the meantime:how to get them on the field @ the same time? that is the question the Triad of Terror: Porter, Taylor & Wake
