So I came back from being on the road, and I hook up my 360, and put a game in. It makes the normal "game read" sound, but then it just says "open tray" on the dashboard. I can try to load any game any number of times, and it always reverts back to thinking a game isn't in. I have heard it could be the lens is dirty (my most likely guess), the pot needs to be calibrated, or the drive/laser is failing in general. Has anyone else had this problem? What's the easiest thing to do first to try and get it to work again? Any actual help would be appreciated.
I opened the tray, then turned the power off. Turned it right back on, and now it's reading the disc I had put in. I am sure this isn't a long term fix, just funny is all.
Yeah, I made a thread about it a few weeks ago... Try two things if it acts funny again... 1). Remove the HD and see if the disc is recognized. If so, clear cache on the HD and things will be fine. 2). Lift the front (assuming it's laying flat) up a bit and drop it (don't lift it to high). It could be something is stuck and needs to be dislodged (magnet). I followed #2 and it works like new. Haven't had an issue since.
Eh, it's dead. It didn't read discs again today. I took it apart and cleaned the lens, and still got nothing. Oh well.
Mine was doing this just last week. Wouldnt read discs, game or regular dvd's. It would temporarily solve the problem if I did what you did in turning it off, then back on it would read. I did that for about two weeks, then yes, it died. I couldnt even get passed the intro video to nhl10. I tried all the solutions on the website, including clearing the cache, and trying to run the game without the hard drive attached, nothing solved the problem. Finally, I just called microsoft, the box actually just arrived today for me to mail it back to them to be repaired. Luckily for me, I have a spare 360 laying around that I hooked up so I still got one, but I'd say just call it in... get it fixed. Sounds like its crapped out on you.
Mine's well past the warranty, it was manufactured in 2006. I have a $50 GC to best buy, I will probably just go get an arcade.
Elites are getting a 50 rebate until October 5th. So I would get to BB right away. $200 bucks for elite is solid. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/22/xbox-360-elite-for-249-with-rebate-until-oct-5/
That's actually what I ended up doing (6 months no interest). If I can sell the 120gb HD (which retails for $150) for anything close to $100, I will feel pretty good about it.
mine is starging to make weird noises again, was thinking about saving up to get the CoD MW 2 limited edition XBox with the 250 gig hard drive.
Why? The one I have has backwards compatibility, and is superior in every way aside from weight. There are no benefits for me dropping $ on another PS3.
Surely you are joking...the PS3 Slim is an amazing 1/3 smaller with no "Other OS" option and no "BC"...its clearly the better deal over your "stock" 80GB BC model.
