Shaking up the offensive offense?

So I read an article today where Sparano essentially said that it is NOT okay for this team to be 0-3 and that he is not above changing some of the satrting pieces if he needs to.

Obviously Henne is the de facto starter at quarterback now that Pennington looked at the calendar and realized it was an odd numbered year. But what do we do for his backup? If Henne gets injured, or fails to be productive (I am talking John Beck levels of sucktitude), than do we really turn this team over to a gimmick rookie QB who happens to have the largest head I have ever seen on that body frame (honestly, Pat White looks like a ****ing bobblehead)?

Is Miami planning on bringing in a veteran to at least bring some experience to the QB position, even if they are just sittingon the bench? Personally, I think that they really should pick up the phone and start calling some of the elder statesmen free agent QBs to see if they want to come and be a mentor and collect a paycheck for the remainder of the year. Or perhaps, a trade is in order? I doubt we are able to pry away a superstar QB, but a backup role player for a low round draft pick might be just what Henne needs right now when he comes to the sidelines after a series.

But beyond the obvious crisis Miami has at the Quarterback position, should we expect to see Sparano and the rest of the coaching staff start scrutinizing other people at vrious positions? Given our failures as a team overall, no one should feel safe from getting the hook at this point, and Sparano has shown that he is a no excuses, take no **** kind of coach. And this is one of his first major tests of when the rubber meets the road. Will he keep the status quo? Or will players be held responsible for their actions (or lack thereof)?

Players like Ted Ginn, the first round wide receiver, and a lightning rod for Dolphin fans on both sides of the debate, has got to be feelign some heat at this point. After dropping catchable touchdown passes under the glare of the primetime lights last Monday, he followed it up with an underwhelming performance against the Chargers in which he dropped two consecutive passes that would have resulted in first downs (while the game was still within reach, mind you) and finished with a stat line equivilant to mine (that is to say, he didn't do dick).

With fellow wideouts Davone Bess and Greg Camarillo outplaying Ginn and generally speaking, being far more consistant, could we see the former #9 overall pick downgraded to the third receiver role? I don't think it is such an improbable proposition if he continues to stunt his own growth with his butter fingers as of late.

Speaking of not being able to hang onto the ball, could Anthony Fasano soon be on the outside looking in? What was, going into the preseason, looking like an asset for Miami, has quickly turned into anything but. David Martin is gone for the year, leaving Anthony Fasano to shoulder the bulk of the tight end duties this season. While he stood out for positive reasons last year, he has done the exact opposite this year, fumbling away posessions, dropping balls and whiffing on blocks.

While his immediate backup, Joey Haynos, leaves much to be desired as an offensive weapon, he certainly tries and plays hard. Perhaps a one week switch on the depth chart would help snap Fasano back into shape and keep his mind focused, knowing that this job is not as secure as perhaps, he thinks it is.

Last, and unfortunately, certainly least, up until this point anyway, the offensive line. The unit dubbed the "orca 5," have been anything but killer. Unless you take the fan's expectations into account. The highest paid starting offensive line unit has given up a ton of sacks, more hurries and hits on their quarterbacks than anyone should have to endure and has failed to open up holes for the one unit that seems to be pulling its weight on offense (the running backs). Highly paid players like Vernon Carey and Jake Long seem to be getting quite a bit of camera time so far in this young season, and not in a good way. Missed blocks and costly penalties have turned this once promising division, into an underperforming, costly albatross.

And if they don't shape up soon (and I mean within a week), I have a feeling that a couple of these well paid fatties, are going to be resting their fat ****ing asses on the bench in favor of some hungry, cheaper alternatives who actually play with passion to make up for their supposed lack of talent.

As you can see, we have soem issues on this side of the ball. Quite frankly, short of Ronnie, Ricky, Patrick and Lousaka, the offense has been pretty "blah" so far. And blah simply won't cut it. Not when the defense is "meh" at best. But the defense is an issue to tackle at another time (pun certainly intended).

I like your overall message here, I really do. I'm just gonna put my two cents on it where I disagree with you.

First of all, Pat White is more than a gimmick QB. He's from right next door to my home town, so maybe I have a bias. But I also probably have more experience watching him as well. It's gonna take him a little while to get accustomed to the NFL, but he's a great athlete who can throw the ball better than your more recent "athletic QBs" (read: Vick, Vince Young, Alex Smith) I honestly doubt, with this front office's conservative nature, they would have invested such a high draft pick in the guy just to run the WildCat. Just be patient with him, I know from experience what kind of player he is, and we got a special kid in Pat White. Athletic, Intelligent, Hard Working and Skilled. Those are the words I would use to sum up Pat White.

The WR position is a headache. As for Ginn, I'm really not a fan, but he's a Dolphin so I am a fan. Camarillo could possibly be the best possession receiver in the NFL. Bess is one of the better slot WRs in the league right now. But the question on him will be, can he develop past that? If not, then he's still gonna be a great slot WR, he can run drags and underneaths like no one's business. Hartline I still don't know what we have in him. Turner, after all the hype in the pre-season, can't even make the active roster. That's not a good sign. So with Henne in, I would like to see a shake up of the WR corp, definately. Let's find out what these guys are capable of.

The Offensive line, I thought, has been doing rather well. We had some definite trouble week 1 against Atlanta, but weeks 2 and 3 we got a good push in the running game. You don't control the ball for 45 minutes without good run blocking. I think Grove is getting better. He was dominated against Atlanta and actually committed 2 false starts against INdy that were both charged as off-sides (and people say we never get a break lol.) Jake Long and Smiley did an awesome job against Freeney. Carey...yeah, he's gotta step up his game. And I confess I haven't seen much of Donald Thomas to make an accurate assessment.

I want to see three places on the team shaken up, ILB, Secondary and Wide Receiver. I already covered Wide Receiver. ILB, Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele just aren't getting it done in the middle of the field. Crowder is better than this. He needs a fire lit under his ***. Ayodele, I just don't think is that good. The problem is, we don't have anyone to replace them, as Reggie Torbor isn't all that spectacular either. Secondary, I still like Will Allen back there, and Yeremiah Bell is doing a serviceable job, which I think could be upgraded if we actually had a FS on this team. I don't understand why they're playing Gibril Wilson out of position but it's hurting him and the team. We have Culver and we have Clemons, we have options. We also have Sean Smith, Vontae Davis and Jason Allen at CB. So we have options there. I just hope we find the right mix.

Above everything else, I want to see our young players get a lot of PT this year. I'm talking guys like Langford, Merling, Starks, Solial, Moses, Wake, Davis, Clemons, Smith, Henne, White, Hartline, Turner, Bess, Ginn, Thomas, Long...these are the guys we're going to build the back of this franchise on. We HAVE to know THIS year if they're going to be able to support it.

    No....

Let's dance with who we brought to the party.

Trading picks for useless QB's helped usher in 2007...... and if Henne gets hurt, the street FA's that are available now, will likely be available then too. The last thing Henne needs is a guy like Garcia (just an example) breathing over his shoulder with an eye on his job.

Let's get behind Henne and let him know it's his team now and focus on doing everything possible to make him successful.

Time to forget we won the division last year and get back into the rebuild mode where we belong.

Hopefully we open up the offense with Henne/White at qb, the conservative play calling at the end of the colts game really cost us

The running game's been great but the passing game cant rely solely on throwing it to Bess 2 yards from the line of scrimmage... Maybe I'm delusional, but even at 0-3 I still think we're better than the Bills and the Jets should fall back to earth, losing Penny sucks but I'm excited to see Henne and White get reps but I think the offense will continue to be limited unless we get a true #1 receiver our guys are just too inconsistent right now

    With all due respect guys...
I'm reading stuff in this thread that demand some sort of proof to back up the claims made.
I'm reading the suggestion that Ginn should be our #3 WR because both Bess and Camarillo have done so much better than him. From what I've read Ginn and Bess are pretty close in performance thus far this year, with Camarillo lagging behind. None of the 3 has a TD to their credit, but at least Ginn has a 100yd performance he can point to.
    http://www.nfl.com/teams/miamidolphins/depthchart?team=MIA
Camarillo possibly the best possession receiver in the NFL ????? Please show me something to back that up....anything. He has a total of 44yds this year so far.
Bess and Camarillo have done very well considering they were both ignored in the draft. But they're not doing any better than Ginn at this point.
Expectations for Bess and Camarillo are much lower than for Ginn because the first 2 were UDFA and the 3rd was a 1st rd DP. I think the fair thing to say is that Bess and Camarillo have both over achieved, while Ginn has under achieved. But I don't see how a case can be made for them out performing Ginn at this time. Although I'm open to any kind of evidence to prove otherwise.

IMO you will see Joey Haynos more. Martin was the primary target at TE. This took alot of heat off of Fasano last year. This year with Martin gone Fasano is showing he's not quite there. So Haynos is going to have his opportunities.
Oh and as for our OL...
Check this out; we're ranked #3 in rushing in the NFL. I think the OL is the least of our worries.

I took Sparano's comment to mean that Gibril Wilson will be benched.

When I read Sporano's comments, I immediately thought about the defense, not the offense. The offense has played pretty well the past two games, barring a few key mistakes. But, the defense, particularly the secondary, has been horrid. I could see Clemons in for Wilson or something along those lines as a means of a shakeup.

Okay, I didn't mean to imply that Camarillo IS the best possession WR in the NFL. Simply that he has the tools to possibly be if we open up the offense and let each WR do what they do best.

Eric Mangini must feel like an idiot for not only skipping on Sachez but for making a pretty crappy deal in the process. Zero offensive TDs in what, 8 games now or something?

At least we arent THAT bad!
