http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4512011 Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington has been initially diagnosed with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and the Dolphins expect him to miss the rest of the season, sources familiar with the injury he suffered Sunday told ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen.
Damn, I hope he really thinks about retiring before he gets his shoulder to the point it hurts his quality of life after football
That sucks for Chad. Can't say I didn't see this coming. Let the Henne era begin, however long it might last. At this point, penny has to think about retiring. Disappointing for me cause I wanted us to face Chad on Monday night. Posted via Mobile Device
I think we had a better chance of beating you with Pennington, so you should be happy. This probably means Chad has taken his last snap in a Dolphins uniform. I think he'd make an excellent coach one day though.
Sad news. I feel terrible for Chad. But I'm confident he'll still be able to contribute from the sidelines. Classic case of careful what you wish for. For better or worse, we're going to see what Henne can do.
I feel terrible for him. What an injury plagued career. Unfortunately I think that's the end for him, playing wise at least. I think he is going to make a good coach in the league at some point.
Well, that does it for Pennington as a Dolphin. Thanks for your sacrafice and the great memories you gave us last year.
You gotta understand from a Jets fan POV, we wanted revenge on Chad. We wanted to make him look bad and embarrass the Phins on National TV MNF. Chad has shown so many times that he sucks against elite defenses. This is a blessing in disguise for you all. The less you're stuck with Pennington as your starter, the better. It wouldn't have mattered what you guys did to him. He already got the last laugh by winning the division.
Sucks for you then, lol. He got the last laugh by beating your team in your stadium for the Division title. No revenge for you.
Yeah, that's nice All he ever did was bust his *** and over-achieve for you. You bring in the great saviour, kick his *** to the curb, yet he never even utters a bad sentiment to your organization or its fans. Nice and classy
Of course!!! Although last year's memory isn't as terrible now that we got Sanchez. Posted via Mobile Device
Better off without Chad P.? I doubt it. Now, we have no choice, but to use Henne. What happens if he's a bust? Or if he gets injured? Where do we go from there, if it should happen? The majority of posters have been good about this, but there have been some that are just cold. And all the "we told you so" from the other team is a bunch of bunk IMO. NO ONE knows or can predict an injury or how a player will do on any given game. I'll be behind Henne, if he does end up being our QB of the future. But, I liked CP and IMO he did a good job for us when we needed help the most.
What a pathetic display by the Jet fan. I cannot wait till karma bites that organization in the *** again this year. At some point, you know it will.
You guys make it seem like I wished injury on the guy. I'm just sick of Chad Pennington. He gave his all in NY, then beat us in Miami. I get it. I'm just sick of the roller coaster. Posted via Mobile Device
Who will we sign now to be our #3? We cant play Pat white in the wildcat formation risking him to injury without a #3 right?
Absolutely right...I don't know if he is taken but Charlie Batch could be a decent #3 to sign....or even Rex Grossman assuming nobody has picked him up. If they are available they sound like good #3 QBs with good ability
As an aside, anyone have info to send some fan mail to Pennington? This guy deserves a flood of letters from the fans of South Florida. I would more than be willing to take a few minutes out of my day to say Thank You to someone who brought a lot of fans back last season, and gave us one of our most memorable seasons in ages.
he will see his personal surgeon this week. read it could be a simple dislocation, a matter of two or three weeks don't look good, but the final verdict is not in yet personally, my prayers go out to him
Dammit, yet AGAIN we are snakebit at QB. I wonder now whether we really shouldn't have drafted Matt Ryan instead of Jake Long. I like Jake and I liked at the time that we drafted him, but it's starting to look to me as if we are going to be doomed to repeat this nightmare as we have year after year with one QB after another until we break down and draft one with a high first round pick.
It is karma. In order to have Griese and then Marino you must then have 20 years of crappy or injured QB's
Nah, instead of drafting up to take someone like Bradford, we'll decide that trading away a 2nd and 4th for the most important position for 10 years is just too much. How can a team give all that up for a potential bust?! Worked out pretty well for the Giants Worked out pretty well for the Jets so far Worked out pretty well for Baltimore etc etc etc But why do it the way other successful teams do it? We'll do it our way, continue to neglect the QB position out of fear of giving up too much and continue to finish a mediocre 7-9 every other year. EDIT: And I'm a huge Jake Long fan
I think it's been the whole Matt Sanchez thing that's done it for me. I mean, if the freaking JETS can get this right, why can't we?
Over achieve? Yeah, 2 playoff wins was over achieving for a guy who was drafted in THE FIRST ROUND. Odd numbered year, Chad will go down. It's just how it is. He had a good career for a wet noodle as an arm for November 2004-present. Time to hang 'em up.
Exactly! Because we refuse to try! For every Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, and Alex Smith, there's an Eli Manning, Phil Rivers, Carson Palmer, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, etc. How many teams have ever won with a free agent stop gap QB? The 2001 Bucs? THATS IT! Maybe Henne's the one... but maybe he's not. We're gonna know a lot more come december. And if he's not the one, well then we better be well prepared to make a play for Bradford in the draft next season and just take the damn risk for once. The Jets gave up hardly anything significant to move from #17 to #4. That's a move this organization would NEVER have made and IMO that's why we are where we are. Being ULTRA conservative has gotten us a decade of torment and mediocrity.
I don't wish injury on anyone, and I have always respected Pennington (even as a Jet, and yes that felt funny back then). He always struck me as an overachiever, and I like seeing that. It's the same reason I was okay with Jay Fiedler. With that said, this team is 0-3. This season is realistically over, though I still want to see the game win every remaining game as much as any fan. Pennington was not coming back. It's time to figure out what we have in Henne. It's going to work out okay that way. This team is on its way back from 1-15, and I was prepared for a bump in the road season this year.
I agree that injuries are left to the will of fate, but if there ever was a player that you could predict getting injured, it would be Pennington. The guy wasn't durable at all, the Jet fans know this better than anyone. Also lets not forget that we used to tell them the same thing about Chad that they told us, that he's fragile and has a weak arm.
It's never really over though Jimmy! Chargers were 2-6 at the halfway point last year. Yeah their division sucks donkey balls, but it's never over. Chargers also went 0-4 one year then went to the playoffs. It's damn close to being over though. But ... not ... yet!
