I know this loss hurt a lot, almost as much as last week against the Colts but in different ways. I saw a few positive things I'd like to talk about however. 1) Red zone defense. We only allowed the Chargers to convert one of six opportunities from inside our twenty into a touchdown. Almost more impressive than that was the fact we only allowed one of three trips inside our ten yard line to result in a touchdown as well. Obviously it sucks that we let them inside our twenty that often but at least we stepped up when it counted for the most part. 2) Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined for 130 yards on 26 carries, for a 5 YPC average between the two. The offensive line looks explosive in the run game at times and that is a huge step from last season. We are going to win games if that trend continues. 3) Phillip Merling is the real deal. He showed up for the Atlanta game and he showed up again today. I feel like we can count on him to make a few nice plays every week for us. Maybe he won't be a superstar but he is a solid defensive end for a long time. 4) We got some pressure on Rivers throughout the game. Of course he torched us the few plays we didn't but I don't think that takes away from the overall body of work. We hit him quite a few times and thats a step up from last week. 5) We tackled much better. Yes we missed a few. Yes Sproles had a couple nice runs making us miss. Overall though I thought we did a nice job limiting yards after contact. Especially against the receivers.
I agree man... There are things that looked good out there. Theres not one damn team in the NFL that is going to run rough shot over us.... Hey..sometimes...the domino thing doesnt always work for the negative. I think the team rallies around a VERY VOCAL Chad Pennington. I think Chad Henne shows next week why the front office gave Jay Cutler the "talk to the hand" treatment. Im actually really pumped for next weeks game. We win that...we are tied with Buffalo at 1-2 and we havent lost a division game. The Pats dont scare me at all.
2 weeks maybe 3 where turnovers cost us the game. We have been the more physical team on both sides of the ball for 2 of the 3 weeks. It's upsetting, it's not over. Dungy just pointed out some tendacies that our Defense is showing on playaction 2 weeks in a row. We better clean that up over this week or TO and Lee Evans are going to torch us. I love our Offensive Line, I have been dreaming about a physical @#$kicking line for years and we finally have one. It's a long season, a lot happens, and I don't expect anyone in the AFC East to runaway. I think 10-6 maybe 9-7 could win the Division. As for Henne, give him a week of reps with the first team. I like what I saw (Except for the pick). I loved it when he threw 3 defensive players down before he threw the illegal forward pass. Most importantly, I love the speed ball. Can't stack the line with a big arm. Gonna be very interesting to see, Henne's big arm with an outstanding running game. Get the secondary fixed and we should be ok.
We did do a good job in the red zone but what I don't know is why this team seems to be so susceptible to QB runs up the middle in the red zone.
From what I see the problem is simple math. Our ends rushed up the field creating a gap in the middle. We had less players in the middle than they had blockers. There was a hat on every one of our defenders and no-one kept containment in the middle.
Ok, i love the optimism, but really? Our pass D couldn't stop a high school offense. We can't get off the field on 3rd downs and we constantly give up big plays in pressure situations. The Pats are gonna kill us especially now that they'll hit their stride
Its a shame because I do not think the pats are anything special this year. The jets are looking like the up coming team early on.Damm,I hate the jets but they might have a quarterback.I thought sancez was going to be a bust but he is looking like the real deal.
No, the Pats don't look like anything special, but they match up perfect against us. They can pass the ball as good as anyone all game and we can't defend the pass to save our lives. I hate to say it but we're gonna lose by 20 against them
I am not disagreeing with you.The pats appear on the way down and I thought we would be the team on the way up.It looks like the jets are the up coming team and we are just an afterthought.Man I hate the jets!!!!!!
don't forget, sancez has only played a few games. Who knows what might happen. I refuse to give the jests any props. Dumb? Maybe, but I really hate that team.
since this is a positive thread, i will say this here. wow, the Colts man, they do the near impossible. they win a clutch, exhausting (defensively) game on the road, and then travel on the road on a short week to the superbowl runner-up cardinals, and stick it to them. THAT, is some impressive ball. i'll tell you this... we goto Atlanta and hand them the ball 4 times, with that explosive offense and a pretty sharp QB, and only lose by 12. we coulda/shoulda been blown out. then we play the colts monday night, and we catch manning totally on fire. im talking NO misfires. and we play hard, dominate time, and lose a close one to, lets face it, a better team. and we take the short week, and we goto san diego, which is truly hard to do. and we take it to them, we give them a turn over when we have 2nd and goal. we get inside the 5 3 times, and don't score a td. we give them turn overs, and a pick 6. and we still only lose by 10. next 2 weeks we play, by far the worst qbs we'll have faced. if we were a bad team, we'd have 20 or 30+ point routes on our hands. but we're not BAD. every sunday we have a punchers chance. we just need to start doing enough to win. make plays, hit people, close drives. we all hate losing. thats all we've been doing. but we're not bad. we're gonna have a few good weeks here too.
I have us getting a W against Buffalo but the Jets game will be tough. I know UnifiedTheory has us at 2-3 before the bye week.
I heard Dungy talking about or bad secondary, he said the colts found our weakness and the chargers saw it in the films. We really need Smith and Davis to come through for us. The way Dungy talked Allen and Bell were the weak link and we thought they were the strength. The offensive line is improving and the defensive front is playing pretty well and the running game was awesome until the fumble seemed to have taken the momentum away.
we really need the pass defense to step up, we need more pressure, not this tease thing where we get a sack and everyone is hype then we give up a big pass......we need to cover, we can't win games but we aren't totally out of it, I would not be surprised if we can turn this season around if we start playing a complete defense......we have the hardest schedule in the league and we aren't getting blown out.....we need to start finishing drives and step up our D man.....If someone would have told me we started the season 0-3 with the top 5 Run Defense and Offense I wouldn't believe them...
Our pass rush is getting alot better. Porter wasnt out there for a little bit and we were still getting to Rivers. Also Jason Taylor made a lot of plays.
You would think that after the Houston Game last year we would learn but nope, same ****ing defensive play, scrapit from the playbook. Brady hasnt hit his stride.
