ginns main knock is his inconsistency as he has made big plays, last year and this year.

Never said I wouldn't change my opinion. You gave yours, I gave mine. I gave you my reasons. You gave yours. Now if your open to discussing the issue further, I will be more then happy to entertain that discussion.
And, for the record, I was not one of those people you talked to who weren't going to change their mind after last week. I made all of one Fins Colts related post. So please do not lump me in with the closed minded, the sky is falling, we are going 0-16 people here.

I think for the first time ever, you and I may actually agree on something lucky. A true #1 WR can not have the inconsistency that Ginn has.

    Everyone,
quit jumping the gun already jeez. Henne wasnt all that bad for his first real game experience. Yes he threw a pick six, but Farves first NFL pass was horrible too. Henne finished up the game doing good. He was running for his life in the pocket the whole game. We were bad in pass protection and our recievers werent helping him either, GINN!!!! If he were to get the starting nod heading into this next game I am confident that he will do really good.

yes it is the guy i was waiting for. let me tell you what i saw. i saw a QB play nervous first series and still drive the team for a FG. i saw a QB hampered by the playcalling second series. On the third series I saw a QB who hit two passes over ten yds apiece only to have them dropped and then on 3rd down stiff arm his way away from two sacks and juke out a third potential sacker begin to run for his life and unfortunately realize a receiver had broken free two steps too late. on his fourth series did a rookie mistake and threw a pick six. on fifth series bounced back by drving the team 76 yards for a td. thasts what i saw today

I wasn't talking about the "sky is falling" posters... moreorless the people that have their opinion on Ginn and are going to stick with it. It wasn't an insult to you, just saying we have differing opinions and either of us arguing our case won't change our minds on the topic.

we scored ten points with henne and gave up seven a net of three. that was the same differential that pennington had given us. henne matcheed pennington's output in his first game. not saying penny wouldnt have won but unless there's an alternate realiuty we'll never know

I don't think it would have mattered if Pennington was still in. Rivers shown he could bomb it deep on us at any point.

God we need to upgrade at Safety....

    true

You were at the game!! What is the story on Ginn. I was at the Atlanta game and I saw he was open a lot of times.....just not when the QB was looking. His run support was some of the worse I have ever seen.....pretty much non existent.

I saw a guy that was nervous and excited.....yet not overmatched. I've seen plenty of Qbs get picked making the same throw Henne made. If Penny is out for any length of time, Henne definately needs some time working with the recievers. They need to get used to catching the bullets he was throwing at them. Even the sure handed Bess nearly dropped a couple. He definately has a beautiful play fake and a big time arm...the rest hopefully will come with experience.

I know that he was over the line but that was the most exciting play we've seen in a while. It was Roethlisberger-esque.

It was shameful that the kid didn't get more help from his team or coaches when he came out. The OL didn't adjust well to having a new QB in the game, Grove almost got him killed, Ginn made a contribution of minus 5 yards (penalty) and the play calling was designed to protect a rookie QB. You can't do that and try to win a game like this.

If Henne is going to be playing QB next week, all year, whatever....we need to get "dink and dunk" out of the play book and open the passing game up. We've got the running game and a QB that can throw down field. It's time to change the offensive philosophy. No more controlling the clock and driving for field goals.

Penny getting injured didn't cost us this game....he was doing nothing but driving us for FG's anyway. This team needs ppl to step up and show that they can put the football in the end zone.

I'm sure Pennington is done so with a full week of practice as the starter Henne should play much better against Buffalo.

But if he plays as bad next week as he did today then yes we need to draft another quarterback.

I think to be fair you have to give this kid a chance. One (half) a game is simply not enough to gauge a player's talent. I saw good, and I saw bad (rookie stuff really). If Penny is out for an extended period of time, then we may all (finally) have a chance to see what this kid has to offer. I for one am looking forward to seeing what we have. And, I will root for him. If only they would call plays to showcase his best attributes, instead of all this dinking and dunking stuff.

i think the coaching staff loosened up a bit after the first couple of series but the first two were just putrid play calling. i hope they decide to attack vertically next week and not play conservatively. i think henne plays better when he's throwing downfield. he doesnt look comfortable throwing the dump offs and short stuff

The first drive was not to get a FG Ronnie fumbled going in the end zone. The issue is not the passing game alone. There is some deep issues at almost every position except RB. Even though Ronnie fumbled he has otherwise played well and so has ricky, even the best fumble sometimes. No drive had the intent to get a FG the O just fell short of anthing more than that. The entire O. Add that to very weak pass defense and you have a team loss on multiple levels.

Many are saying Qb or play calling or receivers etc. It is all of that.

I wanted Ginn to succeed but maybe they should bench him for a game and see what Hartline and Turner can do. And maybe use Bess more. yes he is small and isn't blazing fast but he catches the ball more often than not.

Well at least there was something worth reading in this thread.

Thats pretty much what I saw. I saw a guy who has the potential to be a darn good qb in this league. He's got the physical tools, he's not an idiot, he just needs time, and by time I don't mean standing on the sidelines holding a clipboard, I mean time under center, on the field in actual meaningful games. Also, he needs WR's. No QB can really be successful on this team with our WR's. We have a group of 3rd stringers right now, that's not going to get it done. Also, we need some better play calling out there. Enough of these 2-5 yard pass plays.

The dink and dunk offense is getting on my nerves. I didnt want to see a QB change just to see the same thing. Also, Henne had to come off the bench and was expected to play big to win us the game. Thats a tall task to ask out of a rookie when it comes to game experience. If Henne is named starter for Buffalo, I am real confident that not only will he play well, but we will win this game.

To be honest that wont solve anything. The reason Turner isn't playing is he Can't beat out the Receivers in front of him.

Ginn was very unimpressive today but no reason to bench him. Only Receiver with speed on the roster if you take that away it would only hurt the offense.

Minor point, but he did play in a couple of regular season games last year. NE and Arizona, not sure if there were any others. We didn't have many games where we blew somebody out or got blown out ourselves last year, so he didn't get many chances.

Not necesarrily. Hartline had some nice catches in pre season and Ginn is having issues at best. All the speed in the world won't make up for bad focus.
