I just think it's a bad idea and a bad move... I see what they're trying to do... If the DS can release a DS Lite, and DSi and receive serious sales boosts in each release, why can't we?

The difference is, the DS(s) all stayed relatively affordable. And them ditching the UMD (as much as I hate the UMD) alienates both people who have a strong UMD library, and retailers. What incentive is there for Gamestop to sell a PSP Go (which is designed for digital distibution) over a PSP that uses UMD (people still have to buy UMDs from the store.

I dunno... The thing is ugly, expensive, and a total waste of R&D imo. Maybe I'm alone in this feeling... Maybe I'm over thinking it... Or not thinking enough.

    thoughts?

Thye're not ditching UMD entirely, you can still buy PSP games at retail stores.

why the hell they're charging $250 is anyone's guess.

I've read that they'll still sale the "regular" PSP so my guess is that they'll still sell the UMD games.

So the PSP Go is just for people that want to go digital... Nice. They don't even have an audience now, and they're gonna compete with themselves for sales? This looking more and more ******ed the more we talk about it

the psp go is the gaming industries first real attempt at cutting gamestop out of the picture.

Problem is, it doesn't have the fan base to begin with to succeed at such a thing. Developers haven't show much support for the psp and I can't see that changing with the Go.

ALSO, sony has been asked if the Psp Go was the rumored "psp 2" and they have said that it isn't. So there probably is a psp 2 not far away either. The Go really is justSony testing the waters of digital distribution. If it doesn't work at all, i expect the psp 2 will go back to umds, or if their smart, cartridges.

I only have a problem with the price. I like what they are trying to do with the Go. If it wasn't for every 6 year old and old lady having a DS, the PSP numbers would look very good.

As for the people with a library of umd games, Sony will have a trade in type program to get their games in digital format.

They said they will give you 3 of your current UMD games in digital format... That's it.

I don't own a PSP (surprisingly), and I like the idea of the PSPGo more than the normal PSP, just because you don't have to carry around games with you and stuff.

However, if I were to buy a PSP, it would probably be a used 3000 (or so), because I would just buy used games for it.

With that said, I don't know why anyone who currently has a PSP would upgrade to a Go, and I just don't know there is enough market there/left for the Go to be successful.

This looks like a move of desperation on Sony's part. They're being outsold by over a 2-1 ratio by the market leader. They're getting slaughtered, and they're trying to do something to compete.

IMO, Sony's arrogance is the reason why they're dead last in the market right now. They continue to believe that people will lay down for them, and fork over for the highest-priced hardware on the market simply because it says PlayStation on it.

If this thing flops big, which it likely will, it could be all she wrote for Sony in the hand-held market.

    WOW.

A redesign of a system that is in no way, shape, or form compatible with the games of the previous version. Who in their right mind would want to "upgrade" to that?

This is seriously the most ludicrous thing I've ever seen happen in this industry.

    Sony's arrogance is comical...

I love the idea of Sony going digital, I have a PSP and I hate the UMD's. However their execution of this seems to really, really bad. The system is expensive to say the least, I wouldn't go spend 250 on a new PSP.

For an extra $50 you can get a PS3.

I really dont understand what they were thinking, wouldnt the UMDless PSP make the handheld cheaper to make, thus you can afford to sell it at a lower price?
