i plan to enjoy the campaign quite a bit... http://kotaku.com/5346774/microsoft-taking-action-against-those-who-buy-and-play-halo-3-odst-early
nice! I'm going to that ODST truck when they drive through Dallas next week. Hopefully get some swag and some game time in Firefight mode.
Played through level 1 last night... A few quick observations. 1. The Halo3 engine did not age well. I remember when Halo3 launched, it didn't look ground breaking, but it didn't look bad either. This drifts towards the bad side. Some of the textures on the roads and walls are just plain old awful. 2. It starts VERY slow. They take a very noob (and unskipable) approach in the beginning. Making you do a mini tutorial for EVERY SINGLE small thing. 3. The music and ambient sounds are fantastic. The definitely add to the mood. 4. I haven't done it yet, but I'm 110% sure it'll be fun playing co-op. Like Gears, Halo3, and RE5 (yeah I said it), I don't really enjoy these games alone. So when my friends and I go at it co-op later, this review will probably sound a lot better.
from everything I've read so far this game is definitely made mainly for co-op. Tomorrow the ODST truck will be here, so I should have some reviews up on firefight tomorrow evening for anyone who cares.
French audio. All subs and text in English. I don't care for the stellar Halo storyline, so I'm game.
so, went to the ODST truck, waited in line for like 2 hours, got to play for 10 minutes. It was pretty sweet. Any fan of Halo should enjoy this. Graphics are a touch better, plays exactly like Halo except you are not nearly as powerful, you have health like Halo 1 instead of shields, can't drive some vehicles, instead of equipment you have a special night vision visor toggle, and some other small changes with weapons (scoping silenced pistol and smg). I got a 'My Other Vehicle is a Warthog' license plate holder for having high score during our run with the multiplayer, it's going on the car tonight....yes I love Halo.
is this more like Halo3 or that other weird Halo wars game that played like risk? i enjoyed the campaign for halo3
it plays identically to Halo, just instead of Master Chief you are a marine (ODST). The only changes are you have no radar, you can't jump as high, you can't fall as far without taking damage, the view is a bit different since you are not 7 feet tall so all the enemies look much bigger, the weapons are modified a bit, you can't dual wield, can't drive some vehicles, some other stuff I may remember later... EDIT: Just remembered the one change I didn't like. The multiplayer announcement now only announces the final mulitkill medal, which kind of takes away from the intensity. Example, in every other Halo you would start out with 'Double Kill', then could get the 'Triple Kill' etc. Now the announcer only calls out the last one, so if you kill like 4 people you wouldn't get to hear the double or triple, it just waits until you stop and says the last one.
anyone else pick this up last night? Me and a buddy went to the midnight launch at Gamestop, we have like 3 within 5 miles so there were only about 20 people there and they had the TVs all set up with ODST in them so we could play while we waited to buy the game. Got home and played until about 3 am.
I got it yesterday, but was too dejected after the loss to play. I also had to get up early to travel for work. Might pop it in today if I can hook my 360 up at the hotel.
Picked it up today and went straight to Firefight mode with my girl, her sister and boyfriend who are all avid and I mean avid gamers. We played for close to 4 hours. Loving it so far. Will beat the campaign this weekend and then it's back to MP action. I hadn't played a Halo game in over a year and a half but it felt soooo right.
If you enjoy the Halo series then it is worth it, I really enjoy firefight, and if you play on a higher difficulty the Campaign will last a little longer, It looks to me also that they made the Multiplayer graphics a but sharper on the new disk.
Agree with Static - if you are a fan of the Halo series - it's well worth the $60. There's no doubt this is Halo but it does have a different feel. Atmosphere wise it's somber even from the music you hear when you first pop in the disc.
my buddy beat it and told me it gets better as it goes on. He also said co-op helps A LOT. I'll give it another try with someone co-op.
This game looks sweet but I think I'm going to stick with Halo 3 online and hope to find a good deal on this game in the future. Think I'll put my $60 to the new modern warfare instead.
