Ex Pat Richard Seymour is not feeling the land of sunshine and Depends Undergarments, could we make a play for him? Say Merling and a 2nd round pick?
A 2nd round pick next year in a good draft, an up and coming DE for a declining player who wants big money? no thank you. I'd rather keep Merling and the pick.
This capo regime has little patience for underachievers, the Raiders gave up what could reasonably be thought to be a mid round #1 if not lower, if we can move in when their deal falls apart because Seymour does not wish to play in La La land...I'm all for it. Heck, I'd throw in Pat Turner as well.
A second round pick by itself might do it given that he wont want to go back to NE after this.... Given how this FO has been able to draft in the short time they have been here though I am loath to give up picks, especially since it would be for a guy wanting a monster contract.
I'd say no...but only because I think he might be had for less. The Raiders, once again, have wrestled the title of most embarrassing franchise away from the Detroit Lions.
The move makes no sense though. Starks and Langford have done very well for us at the end spots. Bringing in Seymour to push one of them to bench isn't the way to go considering the amount of money Seymour wants and I think Starks and Langford can be just as productive as Seymour at this point in his career. If this trade was for Wilfork, yea it would make more sense because Soliai, while improved, has yet to show it in real games. I'd rather keep the pick considering how strong the draft class is next year and keep the cap space. Part of the reason NE is getting of Seymour anyways is because they don't want to pay him.
It'd be nice but he's going to get a MAJOR contract next season. That's the only reason the pats got rid of him.
It's almost as if Al Davis absorbed the spirit and energy of Matt Millen when Millen was fired from Detroit. Not that Davis needed any help to be a complete waste of oxygen.
Only way it would happen is if he signs a 4 or 5 year contract with us. There is no way that we should give up a 2nd and player for a guy that is only going to be here one year and then head to the biggest contract next year. I'm sure Washington will throw millions and millions at him, seems like they do that every year.
Are we sure that Seymour to the Raiders wasnt conditional on Seymour agreeing to a new contract? Or would the Raiders risk him bolting next year?
that would be a super bowl investment not there yet & by the time we are, we might already be there w/o the big investment however Wilford would be a good thing
I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up here next year because he is going to hold a huge grudge against the Patriots and Belichick. From what I've heard on sports radio up here is that there was a little screw you message in this trade from Belichick.
Yeah, ol' Padre needs to lay off the Wild Turkey and put away the bong pipe on this one. Ain't good for a man of the cloth to imbibe too much anyway.
I honestly thought this thread was a joke when I saw it. No offense intended at all Padre, but where's the -Star button????
Apparently Seymour thought he had a long term deal worked out in NE, instead they shipped him to Oakland, if the Raiders don't step up with a contract he may just cool his heels this season.
If he were an OLB or a DT, I'd make the deal for even more, but a DE ?? Arguably a strong point on this squad ?? It looks like McDaniels is quite a find by this regime, Merling is developing still, Langford has cemented his position and Starks is a solid and reliable player as well, not to mention Dotson....No, I don't think so...now, if someone wants to ship us a disgruntled #1 WR, that might be worth looking into...
the thread not the man Seymore could conceivably work out for the Dolphins, all depends on the deal would have to be a deal you just couldn't refuse
The Pats have lost a majority of their key defensive leaders and they are going to try and restock the shelves via the draft, why would we want to help them? I'd much rather see Seymour go back to NE and spread some negativity in the lockerroom and hopefully get in the ear of Wilfork so he looks to go elsewhere instead of resigning. Anything that can hurt the Pats can only help us. Now if Seymour were to hit FA, I wouldn't mind kicking the tires to see what he is looking for, but we shouldn't give the Pats even more ammo to control the draft and better themselves.
Yes sir, Sheriff. PhinsRock made a similar comment earlier in the thread, where is your post scolding him?? I seem to have missed it. Padre and I have been posting together for a good many years, and if he doesn't like a little good natured ribbing from me, he is a big boy and can tell me himself. He doesn't, really, need your help. Thanks.
Reports in The Sporting News said he has met with Coach Cable and plans on playing for the Raiders. The way Al Davis likes to spend money, he'll likely get either a big contract extension or he will get the franchise tag.
With what Boom has written to me this is an opportunity to get better in a hurry, but then again creativity seems to be a limited good.
Seems we got varying reports then Padre. Guess we will have to wait and see which one is true. I think TSN gets their team info from a local beat writer, whether that is a better or source or not than Clayton is debatable I guess. Either way, with all due respect, I think anyone who thinks Seymour will end up in Miami is whistling in the wind. DE is perhaps our strongest, deepest position already and I'd expect any big signings or trades to address a position of more need, whichever one that may be. Just don't look for it to be DE though.
You have to give it to New England and BB with a first rounder, 3-second rounders,a third rounder and working on getting another first round pick going into a very strong draft class. It's going to be scary to see how they manipulate next years draft with all these picks.
True, they have not had much succes. But with all the draft picks they have in the next two years, plus the draft picks last year, they will eventually hit on some players.
The way Asante Samuel left and others like him, then this happening, IMHO only weakens the organization in the eyes of other potential free agents. Veterans like to feel wanted and special when the sign somewhere. I think the veterans of the patsies don't feel very wanted or special.
Possibly. We all know bad drafting can kill a franchise though, and recently they have had some pretty terrible drafts. I guess my point is that you can have all the picks you want, but it's worthless if you don't get good players.
