Six guys have signed on. Five were Dolphins 36 hours ago. http://www.thephins.com/2009/09/06/practice-squad-taking-shape/
a few of these guys we had on the roster.so why cut them? why can't we just add them to the ps?serious question..im not very informed when it comes to ps.
The general reason for it is that it gives the player the best opportunity to play. If another team places them on their 53 man roster, they'll get to play in a game, while they won't see game time as a member of the PS.
well, i know what the ps is for but why the one day cut if you are planning on putting them on the ps? why can't the coach just bring them into the office and say"we don't have room for you on the roster right now so we will send you to the ps"? they can still be signed off the ps by other teams and we really can't do anything about it. i can only imagine that by cutting them they are no longer paid even if they get on the ps?
Pruitt is a UDFA and was not in an NFL camp. Is 6-2, 210 (was 225 in college). Ran a 4.40 in his NFL workout. Small school guy (Ouachita Baptist).
When the final roster cuts take place, all players with less than 4 years experience pass thru waivers, which lasts approximately 24 hours (18 hours on this day). During this time, teams submit claims for the players they want. And the priority list goes by record (worst to best). So right now, the Detroit Lions have first dibs. We're 25th in line currently I believe. Once a player has cleared waivers, he's a free agent. Players with less than 2 years playing experience are eligible for the practice squad. And you can only spend two seasons on the PS. Players with 4+ years experience don't pass thru waivers when released prior to the trading deadline. Before then, they are automatically unrestricted free agents. Hope that helps.
PS Final 8 as of the moment: WR James Robinson WR Julius Pruitt C/G Mark Lewis OT Nate Garner DE Ryan Baker LB J.D. Folsom LB Danny Lansanah CB Will Billingsley
Apparently we made a play for Lansanah last season, causing the Packers to promote him. http://www.thephins.com/2009/09/07/lb-lansanah-signed-to-practice-squad/
