Agreed. And as I mentioned NC was a book. The Coen Bros. didn't do it for shock or a WTF ending IMO.

Haven't seen Slumdog yet, but the Wrestler was fantastic. I didn't find the ending to be a WTF moment however, it was very appropriate and made perfect sense IMO.

I dont mind classic movies that end without a clear answer....to me the best of all time was Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid....but those are the perfect "no major loose ends" in the timeline string of what the movie was telling up to that point in time, type of unknown endings.

But the NCFOM was a clear WTF????? (regardless if thats how the book ended).

All movies end with a somewhat unknown to the future plot of what was or has been taking place to that end.....but movies like NCFOM where crime and murder, gun fire in the streets, (killing spree) is rampant, and hardly an officer of the law or special SWAT type stuff is ever shown just leave me with a Made for TV series feel where "The Law" is oblivious while entire secitons of city blow up, folks get shot, etc, etc, etc. (ie Burn Notice). But TV is not reality in "series" quite often.....however, to me Movies are a non-series Reality (when non-fantasy) of smooth ending with few WTF questions. Those that leave only a WTF, for me, those are a waste of time for the time invested in learning about a movies character, etc..

Could be just me though....(it is why I enjoy NetFlix or borrowing movies from Friends...this way I feel the Financial impact is less on those I am most dissapointed with..but its wasting the same portion of finite 24 hrs I have each day)...LOL.

You gotta see Slumdog. I was hesistant because the previews make it look like a sappy love story, that couldn't be more off.

Watched the sci-fi classic [IMG] What a great movie. It's a remake from the 50's original, but still awesome.

One of the best Sci-Fi films from that time. I am anxiously awaiting the prequel.

I watched, again, one of my all time favorite movies, top 3, ever. [IMG] Damn I can watch that a hundred times, especially eating Sunday Gravy while it's playing. (If you don't know what that is, google it, Italian folks will kick your *** if you don't know, ha ha) For those familiar with the movie, here's the song playing when
Joe Pesci, beats the everloving **** out ot Billy Batts. God damn, it's violent, but so beautiful.
Here's a video of the song playing during that time, but the vid has nothing to do with the scene. Perfectly planned though.

    well..
Im pretty sure he didnt let the wife live because when he walked out of the house he looked at the bottom of his shoes to see if he got any blood on his shoes. it added to the mystery for them not showing anything though.

also, he wasnt exactly a serial killer, the kids had nothing to do with anything. no reason for them to die.

I felt the same way, but what amazed me is how many different ways they could go with a sequel. With most sequel-ready movies, you could pretty well write the sequel script yourself and just wait for the money-making machine to go through the motions. Here, I'm not sure at all what happens next, and I really do want to know.

    I hear ya.

Will they return to help our protagonist? Will they come back ready for war? What will have happened to the earthbound aliens in the meantime? So many interesting possibilities.

Will our protagonist still want to be helped?

Also, I wondered what would happen if the aliens came back loaded to bear and ready to exact their revenge, only to find both they and the humans now face a new, common enemy.

    Obama?

True about our protagonist. He was a great actor in the film, he started off as a Steve Carrell type character and ended up as Rambo. The new common enemy is an interesting thought.

One of the things that really surprised me about the story was that these aliens could've blown us away at any time. They had weapons only THEY could use, yet chose not to even though we treated them like crap.

True, those were some great weapons. I think the only thing preventing them from doing that was the thought of uniting the entire planet and all it's resources against them. Their weapons were great but their numbers were finite.

My theory is that with that black liquid they use that to convert or transform other species into prawns. Perhaps the mothership was left there so the prawns could slowly take over earth.

I got the impression that the aliens stalling over earth was a complete accident. I think they were ultimately looking to colonize somewhere, but they dropped their transmission, and there were no service stations to be found.
