Sorry Padre, I couldnt disagree more about Smith being a Safety. What I DO see, is that with the personell we currently have, Smith makes our 2 safeties MUCH better, and he does it by letting them play their natural punch you in the face mentality. I am excited as we now know W-Allen was playing hurt last year..very very hurt. Now that he is healthy, Smith doing this, Davis showing glimpses of being a very good CB, our outlook for 3rd and long looks Sooo much better.
Was a nice play. Keep it in perspective though: even J.B. Brown had a nice looking pick every now and then.
Yeah but if you go back and look at other (college) highlights, he's made those kinds of plays before. He's tall and rangy, has long arms and good football instincts. He's also a converted WR. IMO that INT last night was much more than a nice play. It was an incredible play. As nabocane mentioned, Smith had the presence of mind to not only get turned around for the pick, he has the soft touch and large hands that enabled him to hold onto the ball, but he was still able to focus on staying in bounds. And he's a rookie. AND he made it look easy.
Yeah...and Dan Marino had a nice release. Come one Aqua. Nobody's nominating Smith for the Hall of Fame, but you have to admit, that play, preaseason or not, was phenominal. Just phenominal. We RARELY see CBs make plays like that. EVER. And he's doing it as a rookie. This kid, if healthy, is going to be a game changing force for us. Mark my words. He just has that special something that the others don't.
I agree 100% with what StLouisFinFan says, but brought Aqua's quote along with it. I think the only person that can stop Sean Smith become a top-5 Corner is Sean Smith...so I would say to Mr Smith..please do keep it all in perspective.
I've got to agree, you just don't see that many plays like that. I mean thats the kind of play you don't even expect to see from the top CBs in the league, let alone a rookie. I mean sure you might see someone come up with a pick like that, and think "Well gee, that doesn't surprise em." Either way I'm just glad to see exciting plays like that. Those are serious momentum and morale shifters.
nothing new. it's omar kelly http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...-cornerback-sean-smith-090409,0,1253179.story
And I surprisingly agree, the absolute best thing that Sean Smith can do is forget that interception ever happened, Corner Backs are required to have short memories of both the good and the bad plays. Now as a fan, I loved that play, and will mention it over and over.
I like his attitude... It's exciting to see two YOUNG corners with tremendous upside in place...I miss the days of surtain and madison
Sean Smith is an amazing athlete! All he has to do is stay with the WR and he will win most battles because of his size. Other CB's have to try to hard for an int, for Sean Smith it's natural! I love it!
btw, Sean Smith said in an interview that his cousin (or was it brother?) is the one who writes his tweets. So Sean isn't Sean, but he's blood-related and posing as Sean.
Possibly, I gotta see more from the guy. He can't touch Revis as far as I'm concerned. Posted via Mobile Device
Sean Smith excites me like no other draftee we have had in the last 8 years. He may make some rookie mistakes and give up a few plays, but as he matures and the NFL slows down for him, we have our answer for the T.O.'s and Randy Moss' of the AFCE. Sorry to go off topic, but anybody hear more news on Vontae's knee? Didn't look too bad during the game and he was laughing on the sidelines, but I suspect that kid is ALWAYS laughing.
Revis is a very good corner no doubt. Smith is still a rookie, so we will see what happens. Right now though you're right.
