my sister in law is here from california and she talked to her daughter tonight and its been in the 100s the last few days. coupled with the heat from the fires, they have had so many water drops she says its very humid outside. she says the fire is far enough away from her that she isn't getting the ash, but its like dusk all day long because of the smoke.
The last 3-4 weeks it has been very hot in San Diego along with Miami type humidity. It has been hotter, with a lot more humidity here then I can remember. Start the morning at 76 degrees at 7:15am and if you start to do anything you are sweating like a pig.
yea. i've been struggling sleeping the past few days here. and since i work at night and sleep during the day its even hotter. i may have to break down and buy a fan
No more so than Florida is always under Hurricane Pick your poison. But yeah, in the past decade there have been about 2 major firestorms (last year and 2003) and then yearly ones like this one that affect a small area of homes but isn't the major storm it was last year and 2003.
2003 was the year we we're going to a sunday night game between miami and san diego. the game was moved to phoenix because the fires were so bad. i bought the tickets on ebay and couldn't get my money back and when we got over there, the game was free.
Uploaded by: Fotoguy77 Monday August 10, 2009 A helicopter heads home after dropping his last load of water on the La Brea Fire burning in the San Rafael Wilderness near the town of New Cayuma in South Central California. This is the third day of the fire, which has now burned through close to 20,000 acres. The helicopter is a little distorted by the sun....
this was one of our secondary missions in PR. Not that there were tons of fires to put out in PR, but I've been on 2 fire fights
i used to get a job at the santa barbara airport every summer. they used to drop borate on these fires, every year one would pop up. the pay wasn't that great but they ate the same food as the guys on the line, mmmm!
Yah but ticket holders had first dibs right? We had a party at my buddy's house (all charger fans ... it was a good day!) and two of my friends who were going made the trip, and they got to the front of the line.
it was still a mess, since the college kids didn't have to pay for a ticket there was plenty of money to buy beer. every 15 minutes somebody would run out on the field and drop their pants. there were more fights in the stands than i have ever seen. and even though we did have first pick because we had tickets, we were about the 10 yd line.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090903/ap_on_re_us/us_wildfires_prescribed_burns Feds didn't clear brush in wildfire area LOS ANGELES – Federal authorities failed to follow through on plans earlier this year to burn away highly flammable brush in a forest on the edge of Los Angeles to avoid the very kind of wildfire now raging there, The Associated Press has learned. Months before the huge blaze erupted, the U.S. Forest Service obtained permits to burn away the undergrowth and brush on more than 1,700 acres of the Angeles National Forest. But just 193 acres had been cleared by the time the fire broke out, Forest Service resource officer Steve Bear said.
what do you expect from this government, if there is something that doesn't concern vacations or raises, they're gonna drag their feet. about the only time you here from your rep in congress is during elections or when they want a bill passed.
