Well technically now they are just lower weight classes that the UFC doesn't have, they are both owned by Zuffa. WEC used to have a couple higher weight classes but got rid of them and sent most of the guys over to the UFC.

Like Pride, Zuffa bought the WEC a few years ago but kept it alive and separate.

We'd talked about the TV stuff in here before. And apparently that's the hangup at this very moment.

But this move is long overdue IMO. Put out an even better product.

Dana White confirmed BJ Penn vs Diego Sanchez and was hinting it could be on cable.

Supposedly Versus ratings are really low, and they want more money.

I don't think it's over yet. A threat isn't any good unless it's carried out sometimes. Comcast could cry uncle pretty soon.

I'm down for the count too. That's ok. I always forget when WEC is on anyway and have to download the next day.

OT: isn't the NHL primarily on Versus? I don't remember.

Yep, Vs is the main outlet for NHL on television. Those of you who lose Vs. can pretty much kiss the NHL goodbye. You'll get your local broadcasts and your Sunday afternoon game on NBC, but that's it.

Comcast could feel the heat from the NHL on this.

That sport can ill afford to lose TV coverage.

Agreed, the NHL needs all the attention it can get, especially in the southern markets.

Comcast is likely thinking that because directv has the monopoly with the NFL Sunday Ticket, that they will stick it to them by denying their customers NHL coverage.

OT - It absolutely pisses me off that there are hockey teams in places where there is no such thing as ice and snow (e.g. - aPhoenix, Dallas, and yes, Florida). It cheapens the game, IMO. To me, it would be like a pro surfing circuit coming to MN. It's ******ED. Hockey belongs to us northern boys who grew up playing it. People that have never seen a flake of snow in their lives watching hockey is insulting to me.

Nowdays, I think it's kinda silly to have these teams down here. Especially South Florida where nobody goes to the games anyway.

I used to love the Panthers when I lived down there (along with the Marlins and Heat). It was something we hadn't seen much of before and it was fun. Especially with the success the Panthers had early on. The physicality of the game was great. My whole family would watch.

Now I only care about football. And the Heat to a small extent. So it wouldn't hurt me any to see most everything else go.

Heh, I LOVED it when the Lightning beat Calgary for the very reason you complained about above. You knew how bad it tweaked the millions of northerners who love the sport more than their kids. Heh, it must have been 90 degrees the night I walked to the little bar around the corner from my house and saw Dave Andreychuk with the Stanley Cup. :tongue2:

Have to admit, Tampa is pretty good about supporting the team. The Lightning averaged 16,000 fans this year despite being bad. Though I don't know if that was paid or actual. But they generally show up.

speaking for us Southern boys; we agree. y'all can keep NHL hockey and give up college football up there in Big Ten country, where they are no longer competitive with the SEC. :tongue2:

Don't talk about the Dallas Stars to me. :nono: That team USED to be my beloved Minnesota North Stars...

We love our hockey here in MN, it is as popular here as it is up in Canada (the Wild have sold out every single home game in franchise history). For us to be deprived of a professional hockey team for 7 years was pure torture.

Even after all these years (16 now, WOW that makes me feel old) I still HATE that sonofabitch Norm Green, for absconding with the team I worshipped for the first 17 years of my life.

Hey, my Gophers may not have such a great football team, but we did just get a brand-spankin' new stadium! If you get a chance, check it out online: http://stadium.gophersports.com/, it's AWESOME. AND it's right on campus! No more Metrodome!

I'll let you keep your college football, though. I'd MUCH rather watch my WCHA hockey!

I heard about that last week.

What a ****ing moron. You see where his priorities lie. You're looking at spring/summer for Evans fight, and maybe a year or more for Machida. You're screwing over TUF as well.

IMO, he doesn't win either fight. Certainly not Machida.

Comcast has its own NHLchannel just like NFL, MLB, MBA now. So dont know...maybe they just move game to that channel instead of Vs.

I bet Mr. T wishes he was young enough to sign up with MMA and take the Evans fight...LOL

    But do they?

Rampage got $325K for beating Keith Jardine and $285K in losing to Forrest. Are they paying him that much to be in a special effects movie?

Anyway, I can't see him being serious about contending in the near future if he's blowing off a big fight that's already being built up for a movie. We're not talking about Saving Private Ryan here.

That is a pretty big fight. Hamill will be a big test.

I've been all about John Jones for awhile, but I'm a big fan of Matt Hamill as well. Would be hard for me to root against either of them.

Jones is still a bit sloppy, but he's got impressive skills.

Believe it or not...he can get in excess of 7 figures if there is merchandising for the movie...which there will be (action figures)

the selfish MMA fan in me is pissed off...but if I where in his shoes......over a million and not getting hit in the face?

I believe that this fight will tell us a lot about both fighters. Personally, I think Hamill will win, but Jones might just be the real deal.

The movie ain't gonna do that much for the UFC. Not as much as Evans and Rampage actually fighting.

Rampage torpedoed Dana's main event for UFC 107 and altered UFC 106, not to mention the point of him being a coach on the Ultimate Fighter show.

Rampage passed on a shot at Machida so he could get Ultimate Fighter and then Evans later. Rampage is a major draw, and he'll have been inactive for a year. I mean, they setup UFC 107 to be in his hometown of Memphis. It forced Dana to move Penn-Sanchez from 106 to 107.

Fortunately UFC 107 is pretty stacked. But it could have been even better with that fight.

From Rampage this is an easy choice and I think it was the right one for him. After his fight days are over this may be a career. This role could launch him into that career. Stinks they wont fight right away tho
